Disappointed in the soundtrack for Fallout: New Vegas

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:49 pm

While the songs being played all all great, there are far too few of them. I get tired of hearing the same old songs over and over again. So.. I installed a mod :P

Radio in FO3/FNV: Okay. Better than most games. But I just don't like 50's era music. Never have. So that annoys me until I replace it with something I like. Lastly the playlist was way too short. I expanded the playlist to 100 tracks in both games.

Radio in 3: Galaxy News Radio was great once I swapped the music out. Three Dog was an awesome DJ.

Radio in NV: Horrible. Sure the music is easier to replace(Just a matter of renaming your MP3s and sticking them in), but Mr New Vegas loops the same five songs incessantly. He's also about as entertaining as a cinder block. I honestly think NV's radio would be improved if Three Dog gets a syndication to all parts west. The tech is present for him to syndicate, and honestly, I'd love to hear news about how DC was getting on anyways.

Yes!

Right now half the votes point towards the music being either abysmal in comparison with Fallout 3 or in need of some improvement/expansion. About 1/4 actually think it was great. That seems like a really low number.

While I understand the chance of a thread amongst thousands of threads piquing the right person's interest is unlikely, I wanted to put something out there. The radio is an important part of the gameplay experience.

There should have been a quest to find and destroy all remaining copies of Johnny Guitar in the Mojave, thereby removing it from the game. Optional: Sell Peggy Lee to slavers.

I think that in my opinion it was a great idea to integrate Mark Morgan's older pieces into New Vegas, but that's just what I think. I muuuuuuuuuuuuuch prefer his ambient slant to the wasteland over Zur's melodramatic/ fantastic surges of strings- in my opinion, that is. Those huge orchestral sounding pieces don't sound right at all complimenting the sights of the Wasteland, but that's just my opinion.

Also, I severely love the ambient music for Goodsprings.

String quartets- awesome. Huge orchestras- this ain't Oblivion.

3 Dog annoyed the pants straight off my legs.

Modded that the minute a mod came out. Now have 200 tracks, 100 of which are Fallout 3 and similar, 50 are ratpack, and 50 country. And you know what? It STILL seems like I'm listening to the same songs over and over - it's because of the amount of time you're playing, stick 20 tracks on your iPod on shuffle for five hours and you will get the same impression.

The main thing that's wrong with Mr NV (aside from his voice) is that he doesn't ADD anything to the game. I was in the last few minutes of the game, and he was STILL banging on about Primm having a *spoiler* new sheriff. Old news. At least Three Dog gave you hints and tips... "ahem there is a big forest of real trees somewhere". If you're going to have a personality DJ at all in games like these, there needs to be a point to them imo.

Its called itunes.

Its called the radio (The real radio, with a dial and speakers)

Its called putting a music CD in your xbox 360 and uploading some music to play while you play.

Problem solved. Next please!!

And I often do play my own mp3s over top of the game. The problem with doing this through the xbox is:

- The in-game lag it generates
- The fact the music is always the same volume, even in conversation

What it actually should be called is adding depth and dimension to the in-game radio through future design choice, without having to utilize an outside source.

I must admit killing people to "Blue Moon" feels extremely awkward. And while Three Dog could be annoying, at least he wasn't trying to touch me inappropriately through the radio. o_O

(Not to mention you could simply kill him if he got too annoying)

I preferred the music in FO3 and I also liked the fact that different channels had different music. Having an instrumental version of another channel is fine but it was disappointing that both New Vegas and Black Mountain played the same music. I find myself mostly playing with the radio off, the background music is nice.

While the music doesn't do much for me I really like Mr. New Vegas and Tabitha, whereas I couldn't stand Three Dog.

They should've inlcuded all the GNR music from Fo3 seeing as it was public domain anyway, therefore FREE I'm sensing lazy developers on this front. I do kinda like the new music though it's getting really annoying especially as all that seems to be playing "Johnny Guitar". Mr. Vegas isnt IMO as good as Three Dog but he's certainly not bad. Btw Softnerd you could kill Three Dog and he'd be replaced by hist secretary/assitant who you never see.

The GNR music was not public domain, at least most of it wasn't. It was licensed.

You people do know that the radio new vegas playlist is bugged im looking in the data for new vegas right now and theres 50 songs for NVR alone the fact that only about 6 of them play over and over is a confirmed bug its not that they dont have more music its just that that music doesnt play.

While I liked the FO3 soundtrack a bit better (including Three Dog), I don't dislike the FO:NV one.

Yeah, between the fact that there's a bug keeping all the songs from being heard, and that the songs are split between radio stations (rather than concentrated on GNR in FO3), it seems like there aren't many.

It's called I don't have itunes because I'm not a fan of ipods and thus don't use anything affiliated with them.

It's called I don't have a radio because I severely dislike most music on the radio these days.

It's called none of the music I have really fits the theme of New Vegas and I really don't feel like Alt+Tabbing out of my game just to turn it down or stop it, especially since my game seems to crash if I do so.

Problem not solved. :P

But what do I care. I'm on PC and there are already mods available where you can add your own tracks or even new radio stations. I LOVE the new Enclave Radio mod. :goodjob:

I do hope the playlist gets fixed via patch though. There are quite a good number of tracks missing.

Me feelings are the exact opposite of this. I hated Three Dog with a passion and wanted him to die. :D

You know you could just...yknow...walk in there and kill him, right?

he stops after that and some woman comes on and [censored]es occasionally that "some [censored] killed three dog" for a few seconds.

pandora.com

:)

Can make a Fallout style radio channel. Although I do wish they had a larger variety in game and more songs in between the host messages.

First, let me say that I am not a fan of Mark Morgan.

I stopped reading right here.

That said, I'll use this thread to voice my frustration: I love the music of FO:NV (aside from the silly NOW IS BATTLE! NOW IS NCR! stuff). Somewhat surprisingly, I really like the combination of Zur with old Morgan music. "Surprisingly" since Zur's soundtrack for Fallout 3 was full of sentimental strings and didn't feel or sound like Fallout at all, "somewhat" because his soundtrack for Tactics was pretty good (though still not as good as Morgan's). The radio songs, they're great - but here's the catch: much like the spoken "floating text" of NPCs, those 4 or 5 songs just don't cut it in a game which you're expecting people to play for tens of hours. I have about 60 hours logged in and I finally just had to turn the radio off. I can't [censored] hear Johnny Guitar one more time before I gouge me ears out.

I agree with everything you wrote!

It feels like the ingame radio was an afterthought. Rather than improve upon Fallout 3's radio system (which was really good)- obsidian's execution is simply lackluster. I really assumed- given the Vegas setting- this had the potential to be amazing. But there are too few songs, too little original radio banter, too little variety- it just feels like they made a half-hearted stab at the last minute and didn't really care.

I actually like Johnny Guitar. The lyrics are meh, but it sounds pretty nice. Big iron (or as i hear it "big eyed horn is here" :P) isn't that bad either. And i like Mr. New Vegas too; "I love you." Aww ^_^

Most of the time i use the iPip player mod from Fallout 3 with some more modern music, there's nothing like mowing down enemies in Power Armor while the Soviet Union battle music form Red Alert 3 is playing on the background :D (i'd imagine, i haven't done that yet )
