Disappointed in the soundtrack for Fallout: New Vegas

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:30 am

Radio needs more songs, better shuffle, and more of the Rhonda and Best Friend Tabitha show.

+1-I was SO disappointed there were only 3-4 recurring "talk show" segments on BMR, they were GREAT.

The songs in New Vegas are mostly not as good but it's probably because the best songs for the 50's had already been picked for Fallout 3 so the choice for another game was limited. Hearing Fallout 3 songs in New Vegas would not have been good in my opinion.

3dawg was annoying but he had character, personaly I think 3dawg just had better lines to read from a script because while I don't have a problem with Mr New Vegas I find what he is saying not all that interesting so thats not his fault it's the dialogue he has been given to read out.

I agree all 3 stations having the same songs is a bit lame, I can sort of get that they might have the same songs for new vegas and wasteland radio because then if you don't like Mr New Vegas talking you can just swap to the other station and listen to the music. Maybe because you can stop the Rhonda & Tabitha station altogether they didn't feel it was worth featuring a completely new set of music.

The music and radio in new vegas is much better as ambient noise in the locations you visit so you only hear an occasional song or news update rather then permanently on your pip boy as you travel around in my opinion. This is how I prefer to play anyway.

I personally like adding more radio stations via modding, to fill up those times when Three Dog and other hosts are talking about old stuff. I really liked "Watching World War III on pay TV", "Herbet the Turtle", and "Satellite Girl" from the CONELRAD station. I feel the first song I mentioned is a perfect fit for Fallout, because it is so *upbeat* and sarcastic at the same time. I think there is a lot of material that has yet to be found and added to Fallout radio, and I am looking forward to hearing it.

I definitely would like more songs, even if Bethesda makes a DLC which ports over the Fallout 3 songs. The current list of songs are lacking.

I thought it was better than FO3, Marty Robbins - Big iron is a new favourite in my book. Reminds me of the Johnny Cash.

Adding new music will cost them more money to get the rights. That's not going to happen. Like I pointed out in my previous post they already skimped and used music from a band that was formed in 1985, off a CD that was made to be used generically in movies, commercials and stuff like this.

It's probably because whoever controls the Elvis rights would want royalties from all sales rather then a one off payment....similar to why there is a "The King" reference in New Vegas without actually just saying it was Elvis Presley.

I agree with just about every one of the OP's points - I love the game, but certain songs are replayed so often it's criminal. I feel like I'm listening to a modern "Hits" station where the play the same song every 5 minutes. I've heard that a bug actually prevents alot of the game's music from even playing at all. I hear songs in The Tops that I've never heard on the radio in 90+ hours of play.

All things considered though, 3 Dog was obnoxious. "Threeeeeeeeee-Daaaaaaaaaaaawwwwg". Mr. New Vegas calms me down, and doesn't criticize my actions personally over the air. Tabitha and Rhonda are the best DJs ever, IMO. Shame their station is still same-y.

I did think there would be more Sinatra and Elvis songs. I was more disappointed in not being able to get to the radio station in Vegas, other than Tabitha of course which was a pretty cool part of the game.

I dunno why, but I just LOVED the FO3 music and hated the NV music. It's the only thing in the game so far I've out-and-out loathed.

I don't know the details of cost... I just know that games like Mafia 2 managed to license over 120 songs, compared to the 20-25 in New Vegas. There must be more to it than "a song costs a dollar per disc" type of deal.

I don't have a problem with the radio songs or Mr. New Vegas specifically, but the volume balance between the songs on Radio New Vegas and Mr. New Vegas himself is way off. He is too loud compared to the songs. If I have the radio volume at max, I can kind of hear the Ink Spots song on there and then Mr New Vegas comes back in and blows out my eardrums basically. I really hope they address this in one of the patches.

My favorite part of the game is the radio music which is so much better

More catchy relaxing tunes I can listen to

FO3 I just left the radio off it was annoying as well as 3 Dog
