Does anyone else reload if their Lydia dies?

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 4:58 pm

Lydia lol. She was my companion for about an hour or so...

She died on our first or second quest. I couldn't have been more than level 2. We were fighting a frost troll and I guess I must have toasted her with the flames spell. I shrugged, moved on, and before I reached the destination for my quest, I picked with Benor along the way. Weenor is still with me.

Lol. I never even knew she stayed at the house; it would be several more levels before I even had a house. I was expecting to someone to say something about her next time I went to the Jarl's palace (dragonreach?) - but I guess they don't care about Lydia either.

She luckily hasn't died on me. To be fair I only just started bringing her on my adventures. Gave her an Orc bow that traps souls on target death and a bunch of soul gems. I go running in like Korgoth of Barbaria and she plinks away with her arrows. I wasn't sure about having a follower until on the Companion mission where we had to go to old Kodlaks grave. Was ambushed by three Snow Bears on the way and was pretty much on my way to the hunt with Hircine. I forgot I'd given her a Dwemer war hammer and she came in swinging for the fences killing all three in just as many swings. She solidified her use then and there so as soon as I got back to the Skyforge I proceeded to make a special set of Plate Armor, upgraded her bow and hammer and she now has a spot by my side.

I honestly don't know if I'll reload when she dies. She has been useful in the time I've started adventuring with her, some enemies have given her some trouble, Falmer and a few of the Steel Plate armored Silver Hand, but anything else she's right in there swinging with me. Plus it just looks cool to be walking into town. Me with my Steel Plate armor and Masque of Clavicus Vile, she with her full plate armor getup lol

Lydia stays at home, eating sweet rolls and guarding my house.

Now Meeko, on the other hand...I reload every time that poor doggie goes limp.

I reload every time she dies, same for my horse. Doesn't matter how low ago it was (which usually isn't much since I'm a compulsive saver) or how frustrating it is. I don't wish to do the game without either of them, even knowing I could get a new companion or horse, I like my current companion and horse and it makes me happy to play the game this way with them. :) ... at least on this character lol.

Honestly i couldn't care less about Lydia, she just stands in my house all day. I don't use followers as they are just in the way.

Faendal just passed... We were on our way to retrieve a certain sword belonging to a certain Redguard. He had only been with me a few hours, but being a fellow Wood Elf i was drawn to him. We were climbing the snowy mountains in order to get a vantage point over the camp of bandits and i heard a growl, turning around i saw a beautiful creature on top of a large stone like a proud lion. But then it leaped and struck down Faendal tearing at his face with such anger, he died just as my arrow flew into the beasts eye and killed it. I shredded the Sabre Cat and laid the the pelt and eye next to Faendals body, i had a moments silence and went back to Riverwood where i had the Bard play a song as a sat down to think about past events, before leaving i starred into the fire, giving final respects to a burning heart of an elf.

...Seems over the top, but its moments like this that make the game better, not the scripted events, but the events you create and are held account for. :tes:

Glad im not the only one who does stuff like this :D

Poison seems to be the main killer for me. Most mobs tend to leave them alone when they start limping, then they recover HP and just get up again. Obviously poison doesn't leave them alone :P

LoL :D

I should probably get a follower sinse I'm a mage and have low health...but I call my self ''The Flame Alchemist'' and my fire destruction magic is maxed and my favorite spell is FIREBALL which has a nice AoE splash when it hits...so I think my follower would be dead faster than me :P

After I picked up fireball, the first thing I did was test it out with both hands. Satisfied with the new spell, I continued on my journey. Some time later combat ensues. My companion Benor rushes in to melee while I charge up a dual cast firebolt - except that I forgot to switch out fireball and the dual shot fireball smoked both the mob and my companion.

Once they die I leave them...

Lydia lasted about 10 minutes. Can't miss what I don't know.

After a few near death experiences on her side, I decided to let her stay at home and hired a mercenary.

I don't use Lydia. I take Falador from Riverwood along with me atm, so if I have some extra coin, I can have him train me in Archery on the fly. Though loaded up with some heavy armor and a nice two handed weapon, dude is a beast.

I have reloaded because I needed her for a distraction.

It really started to annoy me that she never cleaned up my house when I left her there and the skulking around my bedroom thing got old and creepy too.

Honestly, she died at some point when we were out and about and I don't even know where or when. I just at some point realized, "Hey, I haven't seen that Lydia chick in a while!'

No, makes it a more interesting adventure if I stick to mistakes. I try to avoid perfectitis (reloading when any little thing goes wrong) after I got over it playing fallout 3.

How does any follower die in this game? I was curious to see if they were set as essential, so I took Lydia to a Giant's camp, aggroed him and a couple mammoths. I set the console to god mode and just took the beating. Lydia would fight them until a mammoth would kick her, then she'd crouched down and they'd go back to attacking me. After a minute she'd try again, they'd kick her and she'd go down on one knee and lose the aggro. They'd begin attacking me again.

Basically, I thought companions were essential after that.

When they are gasping for breath they can be killed by additional damage, such as a stray Shout

She died on me many, many times in certain Falmer infested ruins, took quite a lot reloads to get us both out alive. Quite dangerous fellows, they easilly overpowered my level 26 spellsword despite being only level 18 (standard) and 14 (gloomlurkers).

Are gloomlurkers really lower leveled than standard falmer, or is the 14 a misspelt 24?

Not a typo :) I think they are at lower level because they are more powerful than the cannon fodder. Even at lower levels.

Faendal was killed by a mob of Falmer, and Aranea Ienith (the priestess of Azura) was killed by, erm, friendly fire. I thought she was a Thalmor mage.

But I've just been continuing on. I haven't been really attached to any party members so far. They have about as much personality as the generic mage apprentices from Oblivion.
