Does anyone else reload if their Lydia dies?

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 4:49 pm

I wan't to role play this game and let Lydia stay dead, but I just can't. Obviously there is a game mechanic in place to keep companions alive as long as possible, so even the devs understand that they are important. When they do die it's because of the stupidest things. A badly timed shout, a stray axe swing by me, etc.

If a dragon doesnt take down Lydia when she's standing right in front of it, but my misplaced firebolt does, then its time to reload. Maybe if I know for sure Lydia died an honorable REAL death, then maybe I wont reload. Also, something to note, the game reload when I die, so.....

If its a hired mercenary then I usually just move on but if its someone I want around for a while I reload. Btw not everyone uses lydia.

I murdered Lydia to get some god damned privacy in that sad little shack you can buy in Whiterun. After the 3rd time she kept ruining my drunken booty calls by keeping watch by the bedside it was time to introduce her to my wolfish grin..

When my companions die i leave them dead, except for one time when Jenasa died and some random guy turned her into a zombie.

Dude...maybe she was just waiting for you to invite her in? See, you ruined a perfectly good chance for a menage trois!

I reload, but mainly because I need a packmule. I didn't even know you could marry until this thread....

I always reload if Lydia dies. Every time. It has cost me a lot of progress sometimes, but I've actually learned not to even save the game unless I can verify that she is somewhere nearby. So yea, it makes for an interesting experience. I always have to take her into account when I'm fighting baddies, particularly bosses. The fight strategy has to accommodate the fact that she's likely to be up in my enemy's face, and that I can't kill her with wild magic or a shout. I've learned to be very accurate with Fire Bolt.

Fun times.

Yep. Albeit it happens very rarely now. I give her all the best armor and stock her up with health potions .The last time she died was because I freeze shouted her by mistake

For the sake of role-playing realism, somebody should have looted your now-unguarded house. :P

I never use followers, they just get in the way or else muck things for me.

Lydia tends my home in Whiterun, nothing more.

Noooononononono, quite the opposite. I do it that way on purpose. It's an extra challenge, and having her along on every single mission is half the fun. I love it. I wouldn't do it any other way. Now if it was a hired merc, I might care a bit less. But for some reason Lydia has a special place.

Dude, would you loot the house of a dragonborn werewolf leader of the companions? Really? Then again, I suppose people also would find it hard to believe such a person would live in a crappy shack like that..

For 8 out of 10 players, she's the first companion NPC they meet. And we all know your first time is the most memorable. That's probably why. Not only that, but her speech options make her seem so honor bound to you, that some people develop a small sense of responsibility for her. Those two effects stack, by the way.

Not really that weird. Think about it? She is a free follower, you get access to her early on in game if you do just a little bit of the main quest, and it is really helpful to have a pack mule along for those early dungeons when you take everything that isn't nailed down to make that early money. I play a mage, and so a tank is a natural fit for my character. Lydia is a tank, so I have never used anyone else. Only thing is, I am tired of hearing her say the EXACT same thing everytime I want to trade gear with her!

Well she's dead for me :P

Went across a river. She decided to walk around it through an giant camp. I can't even find her body, those giants probably send it to the moon.

LoL :D

I should probably get a follower sinse I'm a mage and have low health...but I call my self ''The Flame Alchemist'' and my fire destruction magic is maxed and my favorite spell is FIREBALL which has a nice AoE splash when it hits...so I think my follower would be dead faster than me :P

I think I have become too dependent on Lydia. I need to see how adventuring is on my own maybe. Try some other mercs that I dont feel so attached to. That way if they die, I can keep going. Maybe bring Lydia on sections of the main quest only. Leave the general adventuring to a hireling.

Reloaded the first time, left her dead the 2nd time. Have a better follower now. She's pretty badass.

She died at the weekend, due to an acient dragon incinerating her, I left her dead.

I now rock with Sven from Riverwood, I have kitted him out as a fighting god, he is not too shabby!!

Once they die, I leave them dead.
