Does anyone not like the Blades besides me?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:17 am

next thing they'll ask Dragonborn will be to kill himself "We can't let you proceed, you have too much dovah power in you and power corrupts .. blah... blah.. just go over there and jump"

Is there any way to remove the quest, i already completed MQ and it just stays there :brokencomputer: i want it gone

Yeah, they worship a dying concept. Especially if Paarthunax (or whatever) actually makes dragons friendly, if you kept him alive. They will no longer serve the dragonborn and any decently smart dragon will just fly away from them as they can not Dragonrend.

Or you can kill all dragons and the Blades will continue to follow you and their ancient dying concept of servitude and duty.

Edit: The only cool thing about the Blades IMO, is their Swords.

I have a real problem with the Blades. I won't kill Paarthunax and I had already made Lydia a Blade before they came to me with the "you have to kill Paarthunax" line. How do I reset Lydia so that she is not a Blade?

Oh look, it's this thread again.. j/k

I cannot stand Delphine... If she was not an Essential NPC, I would have killed her once she gave me that horn.

I like Esbern.. I'll even do there miscellanious quests, rebuild their order.. So on and so forth.. But once I'm told to go Kill Paarthurnax.. They can do so without my help.. I.E. They'll dissapear forever.

With that said, I like what the Blades were... Back in Oblivion. Delphine has that katana shoved too far up her [censored] to realize what a Blade really is.

Bethesda should have give the Blades more attention... but it is as rushed as the other factions quests... and one of the few advantages (The dragon infuse) is broken ....

Anyway, I didn't liked Paat, so killing him was no big deal...

I would really like to rebuild them as my personal army.
I don't like to have to left they, just because they were betrayed and chased until they order was almost destroyed.
Just because they are weaker now than they were in the past games.

My next character is going to be a Paladin of Akatosh...

I hate the blades, they cannot accept the fact that not all dov are bad.

Once I get the PC version, I will make them unnessential and purge them from the world after the main quest.
Well said

I agree. I think a simple fix bethesda could update would be removing the setessencial from the (blade + blade = blades) to allow it to be incorperated into the main storey line and to allow 360 and ps3 ers to off them if they choose.

I made use of the setessential console command as well as stealth kill for them both. Paarthurnax will live another 1000 or more years and I will defend him. No more Blades.. Oblivion and Morrowind were the best versions of the Blades in my opinion. And those Blades are long gone.
The [censored] thing is we might run into trouble if we do so and some addin/DLC comes out, it is really annoying that there are sooo many NPC's in-game which many want to kill for various reasons but can't because they are essential...Well we could always start new characters if a addin/DLC comes but if it comes as an addin I would want to play my first character in it...Bad design Bethesda but still better than having character revived magically who died in previous adventures- yep I am looking at you Bioware!...

Well in two playthoughs the Blades had too many bugs stopped existing before the end of the story line from who knows what and now even if I can get them back through command console use their NPC variables are all messed up there stuck on multiple main quests states or something. Reseting/altering quest states doesn't help either for them they like to just vanish from the game or something whenever possible. So I never used setessential 0 on them and they are gone twice. Another real world irritation I had with the Blades, how are they suppose to guide the PC if you can't even walk in the right direction or exist for that matter.

If a person attacks me, then I will defend myself and kill them. Same with a dragon. If they attack, I will defend myself. I will not go out of my way to kill a dragon though. I've gone so far as attempting to sneak around roosting dragons in order to obtain words of powers and such, though that doesn't always go well. The Blades are murderous individuals, simple as that.

The blades in Skyrim are pretty single-minded in their goal, yes. the Blades in Oblivion were better in my opinion as they actually worked to protect the empire.

By lounging around their temple prettymuch (excluding Baurus and occasionally Jauffre.)

Joni you and the Emperor at the Battle for Bruma, nah, go pull some much needed dudes from other cities to help you.
Accompany the Emperor we're sworn to protect to his coronation, can't be bothered.

I dislike the blades in this game also, but I think a lot of the reasons for this, is because of the some what shallow writing. There are some sides of the stories/quests in this game which are fairly glossed over.
By having a faction the player automatically assumes to be unquestionably good based on previous experiences turn out to be myopic, genocidal maniacs is pretty incredible writing. It makes the character question why they blindly followed them to begin with, while also forcing them to question the chain of events that lead to their current state. When I saw what awful wretches they had become, it only gave me questions, which in turn made me want to seek answers by delving deeper into the backstory and lore of the events that have transpired between Skyrim and Oblivion. That to be is AMAZING writing.

Once I get an infinite companions mod I'm gonna take the followers that I made Blades, and let E and D rot. Let them remake the Blades- on their own. I'll make my own badass group, known as Dovahfus (Dragonforce). maybe I'll give them an ultimatum of their own. Either beg Paarthurnax and Odahviing for forgiveness and see just how much they helped, in exchange for being able to stay in Skyrim, or go to Alinor and do something against the Thalmor. If they refuse, I'll let my Sovngarde hero go wild on them.

my Breton Feudal lord will, probably Kill Paarthurnax on the basis that: "P, you may be a good dragon, but those that you killed while serving Alduin, they need to have justice served, so even if you did help me out, it does not excuse all those murders."

besides if he kills his brother for killing their father (postgame, off screen), and kills ufric for killing the high king, would it not be hypocritical of him to spare P for multiple murders thousands of years ago?

also, there is this wonderful thing called the internet, you do not need the greybreard unless you want to roleplay that you need them to help you find the word walls. or are to lazy to look it up on the wiki.

not saying i like them, but that i can see their side, and agree with them to some degree.

Indeed... The blades are just arrogant. I spoke with both sides for a while because I wasn't sure who to believe... But I know better now. I'm not killing Parth~. The graybeards were right...

And for being dragon-slayers or protecting me, they don't do a good job. They mostly just give me ultimatums and tell me to do stuff for them. I'm not pampering the blades back into existance, if they want to rebuild their.. "dragon slaying" guild, have fun. But I'll be standing with Parth and the graybears side if they come for him. Also, call dragon shout.

Too bad you can't kill them as a preventive measure since they're essential.

The seem to serve their own interests and have no respect for the power of the Dovah. I will slay dragons but I still respect them as creatures. Akatosh created them for a purpose.

Paarthunaax is such a deep character and a noble one, I felt insulted that they refuse to even talk to me because I won't kill him, basically circumventing my dragonborn gift as a tool only for their agenda. My say has no weight, they just want to use my power to slay dragons and nothing more.

The Gray Beards are right. They don't serve the dragonborn as they claim. Their ties to the empire is not a plus for me either.
/agreed

The only thing I see eye to eye with them on is that the Thalmor are the enemy, but then everybody hates the Thalmor so thats nothing special.

The fact that they give you the Parthanax ultimatum is just insulting. Listen here you [censored]s, that dragon helping me is the only reason any of you are still alive. Also I'M THE [censored] DRAGONBORN! They call themselves Blades but they forget their place.

Kia Ora

I didn't like the way the held their hate,.. 10000 years hey get over it,. over all I was disapointed at the number of time
PC is forced to take action without question, to many time there bad/nasty choices and/or worse than nasty.

The blade just hit top of the list for blind vengence gone astray.

would have like to see more ablity to reason and input from PC (We'er gonna do this, what do you say PC?) type
options
Agree'd I have 96 speech with the right side of the perk tree all the way up to intimidation.

I would love the ability to put some people in their place.

Ultimatum?? Listen here..

In Oblivion I thought they were sort of like knights. Now, they're just an old guy and an inn keeper who hate dragons.

I used to be a Blade like you, then I got an Esbern and Delphine in the head.

Too bad Bethesda didn't include explicit language dialog options, they would be handy just about now.
