Does anyone not like the Blades besides me?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 5:05 pm

The seem to serve their own interests and have no respect for the power of the Dovah. I will slay dragons but I still respect them as creatures. Akatosh created them for a purpose.

Paarthunaax is such a deep character and a noble one, I felt insulted that they refuse to even talk to me because I won't kill him, basically circumventing my dragonborn gift as a tool only for their agenda. My say has no weight, they just want to use my power to slay dragons and nothing more.

The Gray Beards are right. They don't serve the dragonborn as they claim. Their ties to the empire is not a plus for me either.

The blades in Skyrim are pretty single-minded in their goal, yes. the Blades in Oblivion were better in my opinion as they actually worked to protect the empire.

I agree, I want nothing more than to say "You want him dead? Okay...go kill him. Hmm? No? What's the problem, you are mighty dragonslayers aren't you?"

They use you and then throw you away. I would admire that if it wasn't me they were using. They say they serve the Dragonborn but if so they're not doing a very good job of it.

I concur.

I've still not even started their faction, because they offend me too bad!

You know for people who claim to be experts on dragons and dragon slaying. They seem to be pretty ignorant to me. Paarthunax and Odavin are the two most trusting and noble characters I have encountered in all of Skyrim and they happen to be dragons.....that helped me A LOT more than the blades did.

I Fus-Ro-Dahd Delphine after she told me that. There's no way I'm killing Paarthunaax, I'll be spending the rest of my days as Dovah with the Greybeards now.

'Evil' is easier to do when an authority figure demands it directly from you. :obliviongate:
That's why the Blades in this game can shut the hell up.

Agree, first I was like "oh cool the blades, but then I realised all they want is vengeance or whatnot. They're pretty full of themselves, killed it for me.

I never liked the Blades. That's why I'm so turned off by the fact that they are a constant element in the Elder Scrolls. I thought Caius was cool, and I was genuinely sad when he left, never to be seen again. But as a faction and as a collective of individuals, I never felt interested in them. I thought Baurus was boring, I just HATED Jauffre, and can't say I feel much love for the remaining Blades either. Esbern being something of a slight exception.

And they are wrong. Spoiler-

They acted badly towards the hero before the decision. You don't give your friend an ultimateum (sic) before making a request. Don't you make a request first, then get heavy later? Very bad form and short sightedness.

The Blades in Skyrim are a shadow of Oblivions. I was a great Blades supporter, having role-played the same character through all three games. However I don't support what they've become. They are no longer noble, and selfless. Without an Empire to.serve they're lost. If only they hadn't got so hung up on the whole Dragon thing and looked at what they actually did. They'd have been better off secretly starting a fighters guild of some sort, and upholding honour throughout the lands. If only I could convince them of that.

The Blades should have disappeared altogether. Now I just hate them because they don't seem to even understand their past.

At first I didn't understand why Paarthunax was sad when Alduin died, but now I understand.

"I once called him brother."

He was basically saying he was a child of Akatosh that was doomed to his fate due to his nature. Yes he is the enemy but there is the respect of the power of being a Dov.

Something the blades are too ignorant to understand.

Yes,Mortal races that are the truly evil beings, killing themselves, destroyng themselves, being racist, desiring power, killing the related and blah blah...While dragons were on Tamriel thousand years before the mer, respecting themselves, being a noble society(not because of Alduin). While in other place the old humans where trynig to escape from their own destruction on the old contintinent.

Don't like them. But how awesome would it be to turn Sky Haven into the new fortress for Dovakhin?

I was with the blades right up until
Spoiler
they wanted me to kill Paarthurnax
after that I decided they're on their own. Good luck to them rebuilding their order without my help.

In Oblivion I thought they were sort of like knights. Now, they're just an old guy and an inn keeper who hate dragons.

I'm not sure about that, the original reason their group was created was to kill dragons. They ended up as the Emperor's personal bodyguard after they got shouted down by Tiber Septim. Having said that, I don't support thoughtless killing of dragons, if they're peaceable ones like Paarthurnax (regardless of what he did in the past) He taught the way of the voice to man at Kynareth's request, so he's alright in my book.

Yea, that little utlimatum they dropped on me turned me off to them entirely. I don't turn on those that have helped me (unless it's for a quick LOL before re-loading a save). Killing a Dragon that has displayed no aggression towards me or Skyrim is not "just" in my book.

Odavin is not a "peaceful" dragon, but he swears to serve you because he has respect for your thum and thinks Alduin is a tyrant. Something the blades are too ignorant to understand.

Yeah, I don't really like them either. They had my respect as protectors of the Dovahkiin and therefor the Septim Bloodline, but this genocidal behavior pushed it to far.
