Dogmeat?

Post » Fri Dec 10, 2010 10:55 pm

AFAIK none of the other unnumbered Fallout games have had a Dogmeat companion.

I was nearly positive that this http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductScreenshots.aspx?Product_ID=74570&image=16 was going to be a reference of Amata and Dogmeat in FNV but here http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Sunny_Smiles it says her name is Sunny Smiles.

Pretty big resemblence to Amata if you ask me. Still hoping she is as a sort of easter egg to talk about the DC wasteland. Like the Morrowind to Oblivion Kajit? the Liar

I'd like Dogmeat to come back. I didn't use him all that much, but it was nice having a pet that could take a direct hit from a mini-nuke.

I hope there is some animal companion, that was cool.
But I also hope that if I get hungry I can kill him while he's asleep then eat half and sell the bones to a trader for some caps.

I hope there is some variety of actions in this game, not just the standard go here, shoot what we tell you to shoot, rob who we tell you to rob, die.

Then hopefully horrible act is witnessed by a band of traveling PITA representatives and they lynch me and sell me to slavers... where I rise to become THE KING OF SLAVERS!

Do I set them free or make them my [censored]?

Having Dogmeat in Vegas would be strange and not make alot of sense. Sure a dog Can travel that far in today's domesticated world, but to make it across the wastes in that time? I don't see it. Besides they could easily add another dog companion in Vegas that has different animations and (with luck) won't drive us crazy by breathing at 65 decibels all the time. I would definitely love a K9 companion, but adding Dogmeat in NV doesn't seem likely IMHO.

I don't mean the same dogmeat, it would be nice to have a dog called dogmeat even if it is not the same one. It would be nice if obsidian stuck to the traditions of the fallout series and gave us a dog as a companion AND named it dogmeat.

By the way, why do so many of you love Dogmeat?
He's been crap since Fallout 2. (And became OP in Broken Steel)
In Fallout 1 he didn't run up to a Unity member wielding a minigun.
In Fallout 2 he was suicidal.
And in Fallout 3 he was just plain crap.

So, if you're a person who likes Dogmeat, mind explaining why? :)

It would just be a different dog called Dogmeat. It's no stranger than Fallout 3 having Dogmeat. The original one died in the military base in Fallout 1.

If he does make a return, he'll probably end up being a descendant of a previous Dogmeat like how Fallout 3's Dogmeat was.

After further thought, screw Dogmeat! Let's have http://blstb.msn.com/i/6B/28BD4DE57D98E0384D45F57791EB.jpg from "A Boy and His Dog" instead!

Technically, he wasn't. Appearance in F2 isn't canon, F3 only had Dogmeat XXIII. or similar. Though I would agree that a canine companion would be mighty fine, and it seems we might get a cybernetic one even.

K-9 could easily make an appearance. Or if they're really feeling mean they could bring back the pariah dog. Any idea on how random encounters will work?

Not necessarily, the original Dogmeat can die in any number of ways (if he dies at all). It's a shame that you can't tell him to wait in Fallout 1.

Well in Vault Dwellers Memoirs he dies in the military base.
Whether it's canon or not is up for debate apparently.

Its a dog. You know, mans best friend. No matter how bad for combat it is, it will still be a perfect companion.

Does anyone know if dogmeat will be in New Vegas?

If so, I hope they used a different model, preferably the same one as the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Legion_mongrel.

You say that like it's a given for any human.
I don't hate dogs to the extent of hoping they die IRL but I do hate being near them.

I'm not a goldfish.
For your information I am a beetle that's taken over this body of human called Bob.

I'm glad that you didn't bring up my avatar. I'm not a sixy asian-looking girl with pigtails, ring piercings in her eye brows, war paint in the face and some kind of metal/leather armor.

And please, call me Savage. :)

Sorry to burst your bubble but it was stated in Fallout 3 that dogs were practically unaltered after 200 years of radation exposure. Unless they try to ret-con that which would be absoutly stupid. I love dogmeat he finds me things. :P
