thats not fair, rockstar went all out on the horse physics and did an awesome job, bethesda have had much more important things to focus on regarding this game.

edit: and hey, they look to be an improvement over oblivions... so... you can't really complain can you?

I don't think they are Shire horses, there might possibly be some in game but shire horses arn't typically used for riding more for pulling things and I think you'd have a hard time getting a shire horse to move as fast as the do in Skyrim. plus Shire's are massive.

I'd say they are more like Cob's and Clydesdale's, whereas RDR had something more like quarter horses and thourughbreds (sp?)

It makes sens that they are more stiff after all Cob's and Clydesdales are the right type of horses for the Skyrim enviroment, hardy and strong

We own horses so I know a bit about breeds and stuff but I just think Shire horses would be too big and cumbersome to be a mount in Skyrim
Todd has said in one of his interviews that they were inspired by a mix between Clydesdales and an Icelandic horse. The Icelandic horse was too small for their taste,so they gave it the general size of a Clydesdale with the look of the Icelandic breed. However, what they came up with does look remarkably like a "Shire"horse.

....Dude, Clydesdale and Cob's are both shire horses........ It's most likely a Clydesdale.

The animations are really choppy. Riding horses in LOTRO seems much better to me.

In GOTY Oblivion, I always CTD when riding a horse. Pretty annoying.

Just keep in mind that while agility and speed were desired traits, the primary traits for warhorses were strength, endurance, and size.... A knight in full harness is WAY to much weight for a typical horse to handle for long... In addition to that, as was stated earlier, the harsh weather conditions would play a role as well

They look a bit stiff compared to the awesome horses in Red Dead Redemption.

well they look like good horses for a western game but

Skyrim horses look way more authentic in the setting there, because of the tough environement and the bigger weight a skyrim horse has to carry (heavy armor guy with shield etc.)
and then this is an open world rpg, no shooter or anything like it, so graphics have it's limits

I admit the RDR ones look/animate better. If only that could be applied to the Skyrim ones it would be neat. But not a crucial thing to have really, they aren't quite as prominent a role as in RDR. If you mean the breed looks ugly then again opinion, though they do look pretty bad ass and fit the cold/high altitude. Basically I'm just reiterating what a whole bunch of other posters has said.

first we are talking about skyrim horses

second, i really don't find lotro horses better in a single way lol
and the rider looks really silly on the horse in lotro, maybe he should take riding lessons

maybe it's just you own taste?

as someone who sees real horses everyday (even riding them), i don't have a problem with skyrim horses

criticism of Skyrim detected. "gtfo shut the **** up." mode engaged.

Naw but really, I like the stocky look of the horses. They are too short though, they look more like donkeys than clydesdales. I certainly wouldn't want normal, boring looking horses either way.

Yeah but I'm talking about the video I've seen of Skyrim. It's as if Bethesda has a real problem in this area lol.

I like horses (and goats) in LOTRO. If anything else, the animations are smooth.

Well I have never played LOTORO or Skyrim, but as long as the horses are an improvement over Oblivion's horses I will be fine with them. As I said, I think they look fine.

You should check it out, it's free to play. Well worth it for any RPG fan (in my opinion).

Well.. RDR focused greatly on horses, it should be a main focus for them because of the wild west setting.
