Dont worry guys, if you aren't satisfied with the BFG Editio

No software developer is that fast.
Bugfixing needs some time to get it right and wrapping this into a reliable patch and distributing it also takes time.
Be patient.

I should've said, where's the announcement of the patch? Ughhh I really wanna play this but not in it's current state. I guess I'll reinstall the 2004 version and try out sikk mod.

You'll get your patch. There's also reports about random crashes and framerate drops. They are collecting all the info right now and will put this into single patch if possible.
Releasing a patch is cost intensive. Especially when it comes to patches for consoles as they need to be certified by the console manufacturer before release.
That's why they usually try to put as much bugfixing into one patch as possible.

Doesn't the fixed audio position interfere with the moving visuals?
No, why would it? The visuals are all inside my monitor, it's just a window. When I move my head to the left, or right, there's nothing there... so how could speakers interfere with visuals?
Doom3 already has it so that the sound goes from one speaker to the other as objects are in different positions relative to the player. Didn't you know?

Edit: Ah, but if you're talking about VR, it's still the same. They could implement some code so that the headtracking system decides where the sounds will come from on the speakers. As I said, Doom3 has had sound going from one speaker to another, so no it never sounds like everything is coming from any "center."
HOWEVER, this could only work properly with surround sound, having speakers around you, not just in front of you. So yeah, I would need to have a surround sound system. That's no problem though, I can get one for about $75

I'm surprised by this, if this is a decent patch I may owe you an apology Gstaff. Not what I remember from the final days of Oblivion.

I just hope it's possible to add an install option in for the PS3 version. I would imagine post release this would be difficult as the game is already set in the way it loads it's assets off the disc. But I hope they will at least figure out a way to cut down the ps3 load times. That and allow us to turn off the auto save.

About to burst everyone's bubble, but the original Doom 3 was removed from some digital retailers. PC Gamer has an article on it, but the forum won't let me post a link.
Why it's best to buy a hard copy :D

Indeed, I'd take a pic of both my hard copies of Doom3 and ROE, but that would just be rubbing it in :D

Lol. I must admit it feels so damn good to have the box and everything inside. Love the cover art, and the images on the booklet. Too bad we never got to know what that thing was on the cover with the black background. I thought it was Maledict, but it's really not. I'm guessing it's a reference to Doom2's Icon of Sin.

That's really low. Glad I still have my original hard copy around so I'm not stuck with this travesty.

Glad to have an original physical release. The disc check was removed with one of the patches. v 1.34? So it's essentially drm free. Visual mods work with it, third party mods work with it.

Why on earth would I want a drm infected, steam tied rehash that's missing features and compatibility?

Come on id - get your act together.

Oh no, not box art, this is just a booklet.
This thing: http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs27/f/2008/149/d/9/Doom_3_wllpaper_by_ContrivanCe1.jpg
It looks alot neater on the booklet.

Initially I thought it was Maledict, but when you check the structure it's not Maledict at all. It's something else. BTW, this face is on the hellpillar that "stamps" a pentagram and summons demons on the sides. This makes me think the face is that of the Icon of Sin, and although he's not actually in Doom3, I think it's a reference to it.

Anywho that's not it. It's everything. The whole box is chuck full of nice design and images, and when you open the flap there's even more. Owning the physical copy along with box and booklets just feels amazing as compared to owning just some digital file :D

Yup. Was talking about using a VR headset while listening to a standard fixed audio system.

From a programmer's viewpoint, permanently shifting channels on a surround sound system to also simulate the position of the gamer (in addition to the game character in 3d space) inside his own house is a total nightmare...

Not only they added an insane amount of ammo, they also cut some enemies, especially in hell level, there's no more skiny zombies and couple of mancubuses as well as lost souls and imps!
Don't understand how that make game more fun.....changing Doom 3 was a blasphemy as well!

Ah, so the "BFG" stands for "Butchered For Gowards" :P (i'm sure someone can think of something better in the same spirit ).

Well, atleast i'll always have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8ZgtBl1sr4. (I've done that. Not as quickly or stylishly, but i did it! :hehe:).

And good thing i have the original Doom3 and it's expansion on disc and on Steam.

Lol, yeah, as I was typing I was wondering just how realistic my expectation is, it simply wouldn't be done.
I'll just have to buy some very-top-notch headphones then, to get nice sound quality.

The player movement is already captured by the VR headset so one might think it would be easy use this info not just for rendering but also for sound positioning.
My personal experience tells me, that setting switches on DirectX audio (manipulating running audiostreams) during a running game leads to stuttering and hickups.
A good example for this was the original Unreal Tournament where firing the minigun lead to stuttering framerates. They had a bug in there setting up the audio with each shot.
Could lead to similar results when using a VR headset for positioning. As Carmack said: Latency is already an issue with rendering only.

But there are good surround headphones out there if you're willing to invest some money.

Finished the lost mission and right in the middle of Doom3 now. Haven't played ROE yet.
