Dont worry guys, if you aren't satisfied with the BFG Editio

And check out this low low price they are offering for Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil. Quite a steal if you ask me.

It still showed as $19.99 for me but the main page showed ONLY the Id Superpack. This is NOT how you treat your customers who refuse to buy that mess called the BFG Edition!

I just checked and there's no way to buy the original by itself on Steam. Convenient. I'm sure it'll stay this way long enough to reap some more sales of the BFG Edition from unsuspecting people. That is until word gets around about what a sloppy port job it is.

And by word getting around I mean when people start spreading the word on places like reddit (hint hint)

And if your still not satisfied, why not pick up "Final Doom" or "Master Levels for Doom 2" both for a low low price of $99.99.

Its got to be a typo or something. :ermm:

Not a typo, they just force you to buy the whole Id Software Collection. No option to buy the individual games.

okay, I REALLY thought you were pulling a prank.
But also my confirmation, yes, they [censored] say $99.99 since they now can ONLY be bought with the id super pack.
This angers me FAR more than any of the things they changed to the BFG edition. Well then, [censored] it. If you want Doom3, buy a NON-STEAM version online. That's what I have, a non-steam version and it's much easier owning that, believe me. I even bought it for $5 on ebay, WITH WRAPPING still on and all. If you like the game brighter, then just enter "r_lightscale 2" and if you want nicer light quality as well as more monsters to make it more action-style, get the Sikkmod. This edition really didn't introduce anything that mods hadn't, except VR mostly.

@ decayedmatter thnx for your effort on asking for a patch. I hope it does happen sometime because I do at some point want to buy the BFG: Edition when I get my Oculus Rift, and I hope by then these things are fixed.

As a longtime id fan, i own all of id's games as original hardcopies. I thought most people on this forum would as most of us seem to be following this company for decades now.
So why all the fuzz? the original Dooms included in the BFG edition are a bonus for people who don't already own them.

But i'd say the VR/3D thing definitely needs more advertising focus as it was the main reason to re-release Doom3. Most people don't seem to care about it though.

What's the fuzz? They aren't the ORIGINALS before this crap called the BFG Edition. The standalone versions are superior to it without the censored BS on Doom 2.

Because 3D and stereoscopic stuff is nothing but a silly gimmick, they are just using it as an excuse to rerelease older movies and now games. People fall for it like it's the next step in human evolution.

If anyone's interested in reading my review, it's right http://tinyurl.com/94h8e9o. Already got one pro-BFG sycophant reply within 2 hours and accused of trolling. I wasn't aware a critical review is the same as trolling, lulz.

3D is not a silly gimmick. It adds a lot of atmosphere to a game or movie when done correctly. Some games are poorly integrated with 3D features. Doom 3, however, is one of the most impressive games in 3D out... supporting TONS of 3D modes. Setting options for Occular Strength and Convergence on the PC version (the convergence has to be set the through config because editing convergence too much can cause things to not appear in correct order per frame) can really intensify this. X'tyfe, I don't know how many 3D games you have or have not played. Maybe you had a bad experience with one... but I've played a handful that have really converted me from someone who thought 3D was a gimmick himself a couple years back to now being a huge fan of it. And I can't wait for the VR headset.... with how impressive it is in 3D. I would have GLADLY paid $60 to have Doom 3 updated for 3D support or a VR headsets, and heck... they even topped that, they released it for $30 (or $20, depending if you have a previous version) with some other extras.

Personally I never saw the appeal in it, I guess I'm just too oldschool for it. But if things have changed as much as you say I may have to revisit it and see. I call it a gimmick because of how its marketed, thats all.

3 questions:
1. Do you already own the original uncut version of Doom2?
2. Would you be more satisfied if Doom 1/2 would have been not included into the BFG edition?
3. Do you already own the original release of Doom 3 on pc?

Because 3D and stereoscopic stuff is nothing but a silly gimmick, they are just using it as an excuse to rerelease older movies and now games. People fall for it like it's the next step in human evolution.

Sorry, i disagree heavily on this.
I watched my first red/blue stereo movie (Jack Arnold's It came from outer Space) when i was 9 years old in the early 80s and i'm still hooked to the third dimension.
For me, the integration of 3D into modern tv sets and the long awaited availability for home use is a dream come true.

Perfectly right.
I haven't had the chance yet to play the BFG edition in stereoscopic (waiting for the package delivery) but i played Gears of War 3 on 360 in 3D and this was way more impressive than almost everything else i've seen before including most of the modern hollywood blockbusters.
Enormous amount of depth and really three dimensional. Not just depth in terms of single planes at various distances but shapes that extend into virtual space.
Great experience!

If done right, 3D stereo is far superior in terms of gaming experience than the old classic flat approach.

The thing is, this was for people who have NOT played the originals. That means they are getting a crappy watered down version of everything. I'm telling them they should buy the TRUE originals, hardcopies through online sites or other people. Like i said before, i got the original Doom3 for $5, and all the classics for something like $10 or 15, and that was with Final Doom included and the Master Levels.

Now, as far as 3D goes, I am not a fan of 3D off a monitor/tv. It does feel cheap. VR, though, I do think it's a revolution in technology. That allows you to be in the world as opposed to staring at a world through a window. I am very happy about VR in Doom3:BFG, don't get me wrong, it's just everything else they did wrong.

This applies to the pc users. It doesn't apply to console gamers which were the main target audience for this release.
The old Doom3 port for Xbox was heavily cut in terms of map content and a Sony port was not in existence up to this day.
The BFG edition is sold with the "optimized for consoles" advertising slogan.

I understand that pc users are somewhat disappointed with the BFG edition but this product was primarily made for console gamers and also released on pc with the addition of VR support.
This is not the "ultimate collection of Doom games of all time".
As i said before: They should have set the marketing focus on the 3D/VR thing and not on the "collection" aspect.

Totally understand your viewpoint but i actually prefer the good old view through a window, this time in 3d, over the total immersion of a VR headset.
I love to smoke a cig and drink my coffee while gaming. This would end up in total disaster when using a VR helmet.

But each to his own.

Indeed. They shouldn't have even done a pack, imo, just release the new Doom3.

Lol, well that is quite an odd way to game xD
But, think about it, all they have to do is make the VR helmet so that when you pause the game, the lense becomes transparent, so you can see your coffee and cig just fine

Okay and the deal with me and the editing of the game is basically this: I wanted to play the Doom3 from 2004, in VR. I didn't want something different. That's why for me it was a big deal that they changed it. I want to play horror-style Doom3 in VR, and wait for Doom4 to play an action Doom in VR.

Yup. Same opinion. The decision to include the old originals wasn't a bright one.

This is in fact a great idea!
But it's not just that. The claustrophic feel that excludes the gamer from the real world is not really my cup of tea.
Furthermore imagine playing a game with your VR helmet while a burglar invades your house.
You wouldn't even notice when all your personal belongings were stolen despite being there while all this is happening!

Totally agree. I remember that they said something about making the alterations to Doom3 in BFG switchable between old and new. They should have stayed true to that statement...

Lol... I don't know man, where I live it's safe enough if I just lock the doors and the windows. I wouldn't dream of playing in VR with my windows open for that very reason

Plus I could hear any disturbances because I don't use headphones for gaming. Personally I don't like them, it feels unnatural to have sound produced so close to my ears. I prefer speakers, and I don't turn up the volume super loud so I can hear just fine.

Not only they added an insane amount of ammo, they also cut some enemies, especially in hell level, there's no more skiny zombies and couple of mancubuses as well as lost souls and imps!
Don't understand how that make game more fun.....changing Doom 3 was a blasphemy as well!

Doesn't the fixed audio position interfere with the moving visuals?
Means: You turn your head, the visuals scroll repectively before your eyes but the postition of the loudspeaker cabinets stays the same therefore giving wrong positional audio.
Being a musician, my positional hearing is quite pronounced.
I can imagine that the positioning of objects in 3D space (visually) and the mispositioning (which will automatically appear when you turn) of audio might alter the gaming experience or even make you sick.

Btw.: Somebody tried to crack open the front door to our house two days ago... No joke.

@ id.dav:

Are all the lost souls gone or a special type? The type introduced in Doom3 or the original burning skulls in ROE?
Flames might have looked bad when rendered in 3D stereo.

So where's the patch?

No software developer is that fast.
Bugfixing needs some time to get it right and wrapping this into a reliable patch and distributing it also takes time.
Be patient.
