[Relz] Dual Wield Parrying

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 3:08 pm

Any chance you could make a mod that allows you to cast spells while 2h weapons are equiped?

Like have it to where you can assign a button like with your dual wield parry mod but it allows you to assign a spell and when your using a 2h weapon and you press it your character "changes modes" and can cast spells but upon using the normal block or attack functions of the 2h weapon you switch back to using it.

Too many complications (if it was possible there'd probably be no animations for casting anymore and you'd just magically see spells leaving your body or something), so don't think I'd manage. Besides, I personally kind of like the way skyrim handles casting with those hands, so I'm happy with the way it is :P

Script Dragon has just been updated to Skyrim's latest version, just tested in-game and this mod's Script Dragon version works again. No updating this mod required.

I actually really like your non-script dragon version. Makes the game feel almost how it "should" be rather then a workaround feature.

LOVE IT

I hope that doesn't mean you wont port it over to SKSE once it gains the needed functionality. I don't want the same thing to happen again during the next patch. As long as ScriptDragon is closed source, I won't feel comfortable using it.

No no no, I'll still make an SKSE version once SKSE supports it. Think I'll keep both versions up, since some people only use SKSE and some people only use SD. With ''no updating this mod required'' I meant that the SD version works again with the new version of Script Dragon and Skyrim.exe.

Been a while since I posted anything on this thread. That's because I've been mostly busy with my Deadly Combat mod and with project at uni and now the coming week with exams. Just wanted to update that I'm still waiting for SKSE to implement key listening functionality in Papyrus (which will be in their first papyrus release, which should hopefully be kinda soonish ) and when that SKSE release is there, I will try to make this SKSE version asap.

I'm waiting with adding any possible new functionality until that time, because it's easier to then directly do that in the SKSE version in the CK.

I am using the non script dragon version and enjoying it. I use the mechanism where RMB = block, RMB+LMB = dual wield power attack, LMB = attack with one or the other weapon. Works great and exactly what I want from DW - i.e. attack with either one weapon or the other but not both.

Thanks.

Using Script Dragon version (or trying to use) and it's not working. Have SkyUI and SKSE, and Nexus Mod manager. I use Mod manager download for other mods, not Dual Wield Parrying since it said not to. Script Dragon is installed if you ask me, it's toggled in the mods section in NMM, but I find nothing in the plugins section. Guess I dont need to. ONLY Dual Wild Paryying's Script Dragon version is toggled on, not others. I've tried to switch the parry key to N which is my mouse thumb button already, and tried to use the original V after reinstall. Doesn't do anything.
I launch the game with SKSE_loader to get the Sky_UI working.
My first day installing Skyrim mods, but it's quite clear to me thanks to TES3 and 4 mod managers. You know what I'm doing wrong? Skyrim update 8 isthe latest, right?

I don't know if NMM installs Script Dragon correctly. Just don't use any installers for this, it's always easiest to make sure you installed correctly by doing it manually. Just download script dragon first (using the link in the requirements), follow the install instructions given in the readme that comes with that download, and then exactly follow the install instructions for my mod.

I'll try that thanks!

E: It works! Wonderful!

Being unable to block when 1. wielding a weapon and spell 2. wielding two weapons 3. wielding weapon and torch, was extremely annoying, and unforgivable gameplay design,

Hey, quick question: Could you add a feature so that the dual-wielding attacks get their own button? Currently you have to press left and right mouse simultaneously, which I find pretty annoying. I have this perfectly useless clickable mouse wheel in the middle that I'd really like to use for this.

To go even further, my preferred setup would be that I parry by clicking both mouse buttons simultaneously, and dual-attack by clicking the mouse wheel. So... pretty much exactly the other way around than what I can do with this mod :P
Do you think that would be possible? It would be much appreciated. :)

Hmm no think there would be one problem. In skyrim, there's an action NormalAttack whose animation events are sent if you tap your attack button, and power attacks are used when you hold down that same button, and this is pretty much hardcoded into the game. This attack button (and you can change it to another key, but the problem remains, whatever key is your attack key, THIS key) is the only button which can differentiate between tapping it and holding it. So if you made the result of holding both attack buttons that you block, and used another key for dual attacks, you wouldn't be able to differentiate between a normal dual attack and a dual power attack with this key.

As for the mouse button thing: I have binded normal keys into the mouse, so if any game needs the buttons I just bind the normal key in question into the action. (atm 'x' casts the primary spell of all heroes in Warcraft 3 and also is the parry key in Skyrim. If I press thumb button now it types here x )

And I sure love this mod. One of the most important ones so far.

Absinthe82, please help. Afaik my skyrim version is 1.5.26.0.5 (probably... not sure, i'm not at home at the moment). But the facts are: script dragon says that it's not compatible with my version, so the game can't start at all! And i honestly tried to install the "if you don't plan to use script dragon"-version (Dual Wield Parrying_RandomAttacks.esp file) but i miserably failed - no visible/working changes occurred.
Also in the case it changes something, i'll install skse in the nearest future cuz i'd like to get that skyui working.

Then I think you don't have the latest version of Script Dragon. You can get it here: http://alexander.sannybuilder.com/?altname=skyrim_script_dragon

Can you release a version of the randomattacks esp, which I very much enjoy, but without affecting unarmed combat? I am working on making combo moves for unarmed, and it would be rather sad if this plugin wasn't compatible, I love the way the randomattacks works anyways because honestly there in no reason in the vanilla game to swing your offhand ever if your mainhand does more dos. But if I have no control over which arm I am swinging with while unarmed then I have no control over the combos that I am working on. Great mod and many thanks!

You can just download version 2.10 of the mod, I only added unarmed support for randomattacks in version 2.20. All old versions are still available on the same page on skyrimnexus.

May i make a suggestion? Please add second sheath while two weapons are selected. Simple as that. I think i'm not the only person who is frustrated by the fact that second weapon appears out of nowhere and also you can't quite say if a npc has equipped two weapons just by looking at him.

While a good suggestion, it is in my opinion outside the scope of this mod (I intend for this mod really just to add some basic gameplay functionality without which I personally wouldn't be able to play a dual wielding character at all). Apart from that, it's also outside the scope of what I'm good at in modding, I wouldn't know how to do it at all.

Also, I think you might want to take a look at this mod, I think it does something similar to what you're asking for: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9614

Was worth a try. As far as i looked you made the only mod on nexus which improves dual wielding, so you were possibly the best chance to ask you to bother yourself with improving sheathes.
Thx for the great mod anyway, works perfectly. The link is good too, but that's not what i'm looking for. And sorry for my crappy english.
