This workaround only works with followers. since follower system is part of the main game.
This pets use the follower system like all other non "Human" follower.

If they just remake the adopting system and add it to dragonborn, there'd be no need to relate it to hearthfire, as its data wouldn't coincide with hearthfire's. It would be separate.

I'm holding out on adopting another child, hoping that they may add a little Khajiit.

Colonel, didn't you post once that you could do away with your Hearthfire family/house by uninstalling of something one time?

Yes, save first, I recommend multiple saves, then delete hearthfire. then redownload it and restart Skyrim or your xbox. I restarted my xbox to be safe, but I'm pretty sure reloading Skyrim is enough. Then load up your playthrough and everything from the dlc will be reset.

If it comes to that I'll have to be careful, every katana in the game is in my house except for my upgraded Blades Sword and Dexion's Akaviri Katana(which I covet greatly)

Your title made me think there was confirmation of Dunmer children and therefor lead to my excitement hoping that there were Khajiit children... Thanks for that. >.>

If we're going to wish for things like that, I'd be happy with Khajiit marriage options.. :'(
