Very random thought but did anyone check a map of Solstheim from back when Bloodmoon came out and see what was near that area... maybe it's an easter egg?...

Nice thought. Never played MW so wouldn't know. Anyone else?

I'm afraid to say even megatron couldn't find a way past the wall/machine. (Megatron is my dwemer transformer friend :D)

Maybe it's a Dwemer football? Kinda looks like it ;) I still think its a furnace or cooker. Given the shape of the room, the 'machine' etc.

Maybe its a container like the one we find the oghma infinium in? With the little gold plate that looks like it'd be openable in the center

That was the only other thing i'd considered. A 'lockbox' of sorts. I wondered if the middle opened and a flame or something shot out, which led me to the furnace idea. Not sure. Could just be decoration.

lol. oh god no. The reason why not many of the theories fit was because we were missing an element, the symbol that Rune (from Thieves Guild) had on him. I firmly believe that those bugs were about him somehow and without his part of the puzzle we were all in the dark... probably the same thing here with this random Dwemer ruin.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about then yes, but this was done in one post ;)

Have you seen that Reddit thread? The theories behind it were pretty good and some fascinating stuff to support it.

Anyways. It's too had this mission is dead ended...would have been a pleasant surprise.

Some of these coments are very funny indeed. BUT, where are the pipes coming from and where do they go?? Just a thought.

Without going off topic, did we ever find out if there was anything more to the bugs beyond a theory?

Yeah, I read those... very interesting... especially since I'm already into ancient runes... so I spent a while reading all that.

Trouble there is you get a lot of this all over Skyrim... And most of the other countries as well. Random Dwemer things that just are. Most annoying but interesting.

I play on PC, so I haven't gotten a look at Dragonborn yet, but my brother plays it and put me onto this topic. Very interesting. Many of the suggestions I gave him were already tried here. Honestly, my first thought is of Vulthuryol from Blackreach - the dragon that only appears if you use Unrelenting Force on the giant sun globe. I can't help but wonder if it's something like that, but much more complicated. That, or it's just another Bug in a Jar conspiracy, as has already been pointed out. From reading all your descriptions, and knowing how much of this DLC was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, I can think of a few other Lovecraftian themes that are quite similar to this. Perhaps Cthulhu lurks beneath - or at least that's what Bethesda wants us to think. I swear that as soon as I get Dragonborn for PC, I will look into this with console commands and the Creation Kit. I love a good mystery like this!

Hear you there. Maybe that is why I love Skyrim so much, cause it is filled with "unsloved mysteries." lol

:) I hate to say use the console commands etc, but in this case, do it!

It would be interesting if that Theory about the Dwemer being teleported underground was correct, and that "Ball" is like some kind of Drill Cockpit, or the way out of the Drill.
I Highly Doubt this, but who knows! It's a rather interesting find, expecially because it's something Dwemer. They're anything but boring. it could be some Ancient Doomsday Device that has surfaced after the Dwemer went. Everyone is always complimenting on the Dwemer making things to last forever.

There was a code that said "rip-heart-out"...

It said knife, at night, fire, shovel, and pickaxe. Maybe keep those on your person as you sleep?

The code was for one of Neloth's quests IIRC.

The items on your person might work but I doubt it :/
