Edge of map.

Mountains can be designed so the player can never get over them. I would of preferred and expected something a little better than invisible walls. To accept that invisible walls is the only viable option is lazy game design.

Your not understanding. The concept of the game is that the player can get over ANY geometry. Yes you can use mountains to block players but for one the entirety of skyrim would have to be encircled by mountains which is both stupid and doesn't follow the lore of the world.

On top of that a main draw of the game is that you can traverse to the top of any mountain and go anywhere.

So yeah it would have kind of ruined that.

"You can travel to the top of any mountain!....except all of the ones surrounding skyrim..."

I would have thought with the amount of work they must have put into the map, that the edges would at the very minimum, be disguised by unpassable mountains, rivers or a something along those lines. But to just have a glass wall seems a little unfinished to me, considering how great the game really looks on the PC.
It would be odd...to say the least, if the whole of Skyrim was surrounded by a mountain range or a giant river encircling the entire province. A giant wall or fence would be equally as strange. Really, an invisible wall and a message was the right way to go.

What happens when you turn off the walls like in Oblivion? I forgot how console command or something, but yah fake walls bite I guess they cant help it its the lore. Morrowind was awesome because it was an island you never got this complaint.

I'd rather the strange than the ridiculous.

Wait... if you can't go over the edge of the world, how are you supposed to get to Davy Jones Locker?

Wow, look at these guys, saying about the whole "did you think you could carry on." Let me spell it out for you, babies.

I THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING MORE IMMERSIVE AND INTERESTING THAN AN UNREALISTIC INVISIBLE WALL.

Herp a derp derp, people, seriously.

Oh, you mean like the ankle-high walls that you can't step over in Gears of War 3?

Like what? And how is a mountain side any more 'immersive' than an invisible wall? Please make more sense next time.

-Mr. Maric

Wow, you really astound me with this level of intelligence.

I mentioned a shark, an enemy guarding the borders, not a mountain wall.

And a mountain wall *IS* more immersive, anyway!

"Invisible walls are lame. They should put in something more immersive like Todd Howards giant face coming out of the clouds and lasers shoot out of his eyes and kills the player. "

Hours of discussion between me and Albert Einstein leaded to this solution: Don't try to walk past the Invisible Wall. That way you never will see them. :nerd:

Stop using the word "immersive" to cover up for stupidity. Every [censored] that comes on here makes and complaint and then says the word immersive.

"Having a cheast plate & greaves together kills the immersion for me"

In Morrowind, it was the endless sea that prohibited you from going too far out. But if you wanted to, you actually could. The map was indeed endless (as far as I know) and would expand as the player kept walking. (EDIT: There was, of course, nothing there) Probably the same here by the way but since Skyrim isn't an island it's not really an option to do this.

Errr, since when is a mountainside NOT more immersive than an invisible wall? At least you would have a tangible reason that you could not continue in that direction, instead of bumping into a bit of solidified air. :P

not really as the place isnt surrounded by a mountain range , that would be even sillier than an invisible wall.

Don't know about anyone else, but I prefer the invisible boundary.

I don't like the idea of something physical blocking the path, something that looks part of the game world but is in fact not scalable (like the suggestion of mountains being used instead). If something is physically there, in an Elder Scrolls game, I want to be able to hop over it, ascend it, burrow under it etc.

Why would people want to walk off of the map if everything you need to do is on the map?

I have played Oblivion with a mod that removes the borders. Guess what, there is nothing off the map to see or do. Morrowind did not have borders, and all you could do is swim forever.

The point wasn't to venture off the map but to have a better restriction preventing you from doing so. A giant sea snake in the northern waters would have been interesting. :ahhh:

Didn't you get the memo? The mages guild put a massive magical barrier around Skyrim because some random kid didn't believe they could.
