Edge of map.

Invisible walls confirmed to be limiting you from the edge of the map. A little disappointing, I'd have liked a massive shark or something... but this is ok I guess :(

Confirmed on 1UP live stream, just now.

Did you really think that there would be a never ending map in Skyrim?

What did you expect? That it would just let you keep on walking into the next province?

No he was expecting like a shark flying towards you and eating you if you go to far. I honestly was wishing for a flying mudcrab.

Oh Noes an invisible wall to bump into....

You would prefer a background texture you could walk up to until it pixellated into blurry washes of gloop?

Wow, look at these guys, saying about the whole "did you think you could carry on." Let me spell it out for you, babies.

I THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING MORE IMMERSIVE AND INTERESTING THAN AN UNREALISTIC INVISIBLE WALL.

Herp a derp derp, people, seriously.

It would have been nice if they changed the text to something more immersive such as "Despite your desires to wander away from Skyrim, you can't find it in you to leave, and you turn around."

Invisible walls are lame. They should put in something more immersive like Todd Howards giant face coming out of the clouds and lasers shoot out of his eyes and kills the player.

Like what? And how is a mountain side any more 'immersive' than an invisible wall? Please make more sense next time.

What, is skyrim just supposed to be surrounded by plateaus? Or giant unscalable mountains? You're character was almost killed for border hopping once, I'm sure you get close to the border, and PC thinks, "hm, ill just stay here I think."

Edit: beat me to it aranor, lol.

Your a newbie, aren't you? They've always had the text message to say you must turn back. If that's to subtle for you, well....that's a shame to hear.

Yes there should just be a 20 foot brick wall surrounding Skyrim. Seriously what do you expect?

Or have their game taken away which ever is more painful to the person

In Morrowind, it was the endless sea that prohibited you from going too far out. But if you wanted to, you actually could. The map was indeed endless (as far as I know) and would expand as the player kept walking. (EDIT: There was, of course, nothing there) Probably the same here by the way but since Skyrim isn't an island it's not really an option to do this.

Errr, since when is a mountainside NOT more immersive than an invisible wall? At least you would have a tangible reason that you could not continue in that direction, instead of bumping into a bit of solidified air. :P

Lol I agree with what everyone else is saying. I knew this would be the case anyways. Skyrim isn't floating in the middle of the sky or anything and since you have complete freedom to traverse any mountain the natural geography can only do so much. To have some overpowered creature come and kill you would be stupid in my opinion. I can defeat dragons but didn't even stand a chance against some over powered shark?

There has to be something to keep you in bounds. To put a little message up is by far the best way instead of either putting up a massive brick wall or killing you so you have to reload your last save.

Can you imagine the frusteration?
You are just minding your own business adventuring. There are no creatures in sight so you think you are good. You haven't saved in some time since you haven't foreseen any danger.

You come up close to the edge of the map unknowingly. A giant shark eats your character whole and you must reload your last save. :sadvaultboy:

But mountains that completely surround skyrim 360 degrees? Seems a little rediculous if you think about it.

"unrealistic"? Dude, there are giant freaking cats and lizards that have a hive mind with ancient sentient trees. You can shoot FIRE out of your hands, you can turn invisible with a snap of your fingers. There are werewolves and vampires. I think "realism" went out the door a LOOOOOOONG time ago. Also, caps lock is cruise control for cool and giant unnecessary font size is giant and unnecessary.

It's better for modders who want to add stuff outside of the borders of the map this way - much easier to turn off the invisible border and add something than it is to do massive terrain changes to cliffs etc. if you just want to add something like a new wilderness player home without huge potential for mod conflicts. So I'm pleased to hear this.
