Empire or no Empire?

The White Gold Tower would do it, with permanent delegates from each province.

But please, with strict laws calling that ANY corrupt politician would be automatically beheaded. Call it Nord pride :)

Nice avatar. Too bad the assassins in Stronghold Crusader are kind of useless though. :D

As for this thread, it is utmost original and I am not saying that with sarcasm.

I think the Empire is good... but in the state thats it's currently in not so much. Still a better option then what else is on the table though. IMO!

Assuming it's even still standing for the next game.

I don't really keep up too much with lore and canon here, so I'm just throwing that out because...well...you never know what'll happen next.

Couldn't we just have them drawn and quartered instead?

The Empire is good, but it has seen its better days.

I hate cake now. Sometimes, the frosting is just too sweet. Makes my stomach hurt.

Empire can be good or evil depending on how men use their political power.

The cake is a lie.

The Empire that existed under a divine mandate probably wasn't so bad. The failing faction pretending to be that Empire, on the other hand; not so much.

Cake is okay, I guess. Not the biggest fan of cake.

That Empire will dissolve in time, even more if the DB output becomes canon. Believe it.

Besides, the resistance in Hammerfell and the Stormcloaks prove that it's leadership talent is near 0.

That has yet to be seen. We have very little information on that, so its all just speculation. All we can do is wait and see. It won't be pretty though, that's for sure.

Pretty much. Not to mention that apparently Bethesda is becoming more comfortable with having opposition to the Empire. Take for instance the DB DLC which had Morrowind independent and hating the Empire which kind of implies that Bethesda included it to decrease some of the Imperial support in general.

Everything points to it though, beginning with Wulf(Talos) in Morrowind, the loss of the Septim bloodline, the removal of the need of a Dragonborn in the Imperial City and with the loss of all but 1.5 provinces at current time(which also adds some interesting developments for a certain leaderfigure).

I'd be willing to put good money on it being canon, however, the actual assassins identity will be lost to time

I'm not so sure that the empire will dissolve should the DB's questline become canon though. I think that would be doing them a favor. We'll never see anyone like the Septims again, but if we can rid ourselves of the spineless Meades, that's got to count for something, doesn't it?

What family would suceed the Medes? Another family of similarly inept warlords? Maybe the Dragonborn of Skyrim? Dunno...

That's a good question, but I doubt it would be the LDB. I think he could however, be instrumental is selecting the next leader.

I really, really, don't want the Dragonborn to become Emperor. That's just a bit lazy IMO.

Will some new thing arise from the remnants of the Empire? Independent nations? Alliances?

I can't really answer the poll, because even though I dislike empires generally and see this one as finished in any case, the Septim empire did accomplish some good and had some noble goals. That doesn't justify their actions, but it's still a fact. The Medes had the more or less hopeless task of trying to keep that together without the mythic underpinning, and I can't fault them for trying.

That's what I hope for. That sounds pretty much as the Empire should have always been: united, but with each country left alone to it's own affairs, and not trying to foolishly impose a culture or religion. I wonder how many problems for them would have been avoided if they just followed that attitude, from Hammerfell to Morrowind. Maybe if they had done that they'd had even generated enough loyalty to keep things running together even in the current times.

What you seed is what you get, or however is the saying.

I think the Empire, by and large, WAS a good thing. However the current state of it not so much. It's time it fell, and something new took it's place (as predicted by Wulf, the loss of the Septims and the events of the DB questline in Skyrim).

The Empire was great, but I must quote Catch 22:

"Rome was destroyed. Greece was destroyed. Persia was destroyed. Spain was destroyed. All great countries are destroyed. Why not yours? How much longer do you really think your own country will last? Forever?"

edit: Also, I hate cake. I don't eat sweet things. Something is wrong with me, apparently!

Now that I think about it:

The Empire is a lie, too. Freedom is a lie. Heroism is a lie. Everything is a lie.

Sure, I like the Empire in TESV as long as it stays out of Skyrim.
