even after 5 years+ still?

Yeah its lame. Bethesda in general have got kinda lame. I cant see them taking any more risks in future games. (ie challenging the player in any tangible way) I predict health regen in fallout 4, invincible weapons, forced kill cams.

Oh god no I hope not! :yuck:

Anyway, after 5(or whatever)years it took me 7 whole minutes to place a butterfly in a jar on a table in my house, then when I returned from some adventure it was on the floor on the other side of the room. It is extremely apparent from several of Bethesda's previous games that some players LOVE to decorate there homes with random crap they find, yet its still virtually impossible(on cconsoles at least).

Why are you apologizing. You gave your opinion. It's one I agree with. I have never noticed this issue; however, on my list of things to fix this ranks below 40. I agree with your last two sentences except - not every issue is serious. Freezing, characters (NPC and PC) disappearing, items disappearing from homes, quest items in inventories after quest completion, and quest bugs are serious issues (as far as anything in a computer game can be serious). 300 hours in for $60.00 and enjoying it. I'll demand perfect at the same moment that I produce perfect.

I apologigized for my assinine additude from my first post. My oppinion still stands but i was way too mean about it. IMO rain should be the least of our worries. I've only had a PS3 for a little less than a year now and i play on a small itty bitty tv. Forgive me for putting aesthetics further down the list.

There is no excuse.

Fallout New Vegas DLC Honest hearts has rainfall. When you take shelter rain does not pass through it. Engine complication excuse DEBUNKED.

freaking minecraft can do this but skyrim cant.

Game X does it so Game Y should do it too!

You know how ridiculous that sounds?

When the respective wish is about something as simple and reasonable as this, it's not ridiculous. They didn't say "the sims has birthday party so let's have one too". The only thing ridiculous is they still haven't fixed it after all this time.

I'm not trying to say Bethesda's mistake with the rain/snow is nothing, my point was just because one game has it does not mean the other game should.

Maybe they could hire you and you could show them what a great programmer you are as you're obviously in a position to judge.
I am as a matter of fact. I have worked as a programmer for the last 30+ years, many of which were spent in the gaming industry. I currently manage a small development team.
I've been actively programming 3D related applications since the days of "Driller" for the C64.

So there ...

I'd have to say that it annoys me, to the point where it occasionally affects my role play. The most natural thing in the world is for a character to take cover from a storm. It even rains inside tents.

There is a technical reason that rain and snow fly through obstacles. If the engine attempted to perform collision detection for every one of those particles it could kill any PC.

Besides, in the words of M'aiq...
"Snow falls. Why worry where it goes. M'aiq thinks the snowflakes are pretty."

Neither rain nor snow are individual particles in Skyrim. What you see is a shader that simulates particles and it's drawn over the whole scene at the near clipping plane.
One could easily add additional (invisible) clipping boxes to architectural models and draw the same shader to the surfaces of those boxes when you are inside the box.
That would give you the effect of being *out* of the rain or snow when you are inside the box (under a roof or in a tent).

Like i said, it's not that hard to do ...

snip'd
If that's how Skyrim handles weather effects, then by all means your idea is a good one.

Figures that Bethesda would just be lazy about something like this...
