EA, Facebook in running for "Worst Company in America&#3

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 1:55 am

Glad EA won and their statement is laughable, pure Propaganda at it's finest.

How does EA win over an organization that TOOK PEOPLE'S HOMES without reason and then was forced by the government to give them back. As much as I hate EA, BoA deserved the award more. BoA is by far the largest blight on the US people and should have had every last employee fired and the company disbanded after what it has done and continues to do to it's customers.

Yes, I hold a mortgage written by BoA so I have first hand experience with their slimy unethical underhanded practices. BoA should rot in hell for how they treat people.

EA's done the same thing with Westwood and other studios it closed down. A couple hundred people have to look for a job because the studio that they worked in is now closed. It's apples and Oranges but they are both still Fruit.

It's just a little contest with no bearing on anything, not a nationwide poll. It doesn't really matter who "wins".

Or maybe people with enough real-world problems that they're not happy about their escapism being undermined. I think the "entitled whiners" thing has been done to death already.
So people who need to grow up ?

You have a chance to let people know your angry, so you waste it on petty [censored] like EA.
That day one dlc, was far worse than ruining the economy, resulting in people loosing jobs and homes.

I never really cared about being a gamer. But when you have people thinking EA are worse than BoA, I want to distance myself from the community.
This just makes gamers look bad.

EA's response sounded extremely arrogant.

I don't believe I have bought one of their games in years, nor do I plan on it anytime soon.

BOA is hardly the only one who let the economy fail, although they aren't a saint by any means. With the exception of a couple of publishers, EA is a monopoly within the industry and has one of the worst customer services that I've heard about, "Oh your Cerberus Codes aren't working correctly, then why don't you spend 15 dollars thank you". They definitely deserve to win the award over BOA.

BoA isn't the only one that screwed up the American economy, but they still had a hand in it. I understand that EA has a terrible track record, day one DLC is crap and are trying to make a monopoly, but I don't understand how any of this is worse then pushing people out of their homes and having a hand in ruining the economy.

Agreed. I like video games and all, but they're just video games. There are a lot of companies and individuals out there doing far more long-term damage to the world than EA ever could.

People don't need video games. Failing to honor pre-order codes for items in a video game is nothing compared to fleecing people out of their life savings/retirement/homes, essentially stealing large sums of money from people to become even more obscenely rich than you already are, forcing taxpayers to to bail out companies that were intentionally run into the ground for personal gain, etc. There's really no comparison.

Actually, the fact that EA showed up on top in that poll probably goes a long way toward explaining why people are able to scam the public out of billions, get caught, and somehow remain un-punished.

Boo hoo, EA had day one dlc. (and now people beg them for a dlc ending to ME3) If you think that is worse than a company that lost people their homes and life savings, you have very odd priorities.
This just makes the gaming community look childish, you cant compare the two, EA is not even close to BoA in the damage it has done.

If the majority of people truely belive a company like EA, is worse than BoA. They deserve to be robbed by companies like BoA. People had a chance to vote and show their anger, but they wasted it on the lesser evil.

I have to agree. Games are a luxury after all.

And i have to agree with Ratslayer too, it is becoming increasingly difficult to admit being a gamer publicly :P And i grew up in the eighties when only nerds played games!

EAs response is certainly laughable. I mean, voting companies that litterally ruined ppls lives against a game that pisses off gamers......I know, it's so stupid!

Kid 1: "My pre-order codes for my exclusive gun in Mass Effect 3 won't work and EA won't do anything about it! They also ruined all of my favorite video game series. Bastards!"

Kid 2: "My dad lost his entire pension because his company invested in derivatives that were designed to fail so that a bunch of already-rich guys could get really, really stupid rich, and those guys didn't even go to jail for it! Now we have to try to sell our house for a lot less than my parents paid for it and move into an apartment so they can afford to send me to college, and my parents will probably be in debt for the rest of their lives."

Hmmm...who do I feel worse for...? :whistling:

I don't really like EA anymore than the next guy, but I give them credit where credit is do. There are worse companies out there. (not excusing the [censored] stunts they try to pull on us though)

I don't want to post a direct link, because political discussion is not allowed. But I will say that EA recently stood up for the same six relationships in Mass Effect 3, and I'm at least proud that even the "big corporate" publishers of the gaming medium stick up for their content. I'll take EA over hollywood or Wall street any day of the week.

I think the EA/BoA thing can be compared to a "weapon" metaphor. Two people might be equally crazy, but if one has a knife and the other has a bomb, the latter is generally considered to be more dangerous. Alternatively, a greedy person might cheat in a competition by hobbling other players to win the prize. They're harming others for their own benefit, and would generally be considered a "bad person", but not necessarily evil. Put in charge of a game company that person ruin other companies and cost many people their jobs to boost their own paycheck, while put in charge of a bank they might cost countless people their homes in order to pocket millions for themselves. This person could be considered as being "equally" bad at each location because they're doing the same thing with the weapons available to them.

However, good/bad aren't black and white things. Most people will do occasional "small" bad things, like lie to defend themselves, and aren't generally considered bad people for it. Regardless of personal morals, people have their own limits on how far they'll go. Someone might be enough of a jerk to cut in line, but not enough of one to feel personally justified to start punching out old ladies in front of them to save five minutes. These bad companies are fully aware of the repercussions of their actions. Even if EA were objectively "worse" in their behavior, being nothing but a constant parade of scandal and dikeery, with BoA only having the occasional vile deed, BoA would still likely come out on time, because they're the equivalent of the person willingly doing awful things for their own benefit. A pathological liar is never accused of being as bad as a one-time murderer, and BoA is definitely not a one-time terrible company. Almost every big company these days will happily screw you over to the fullest extent they are capable, over and over, as long as they can get away with it. The difference is the increasingly little regard for the damage they do that's necessary to perpetuate this behavior in more and more influential businesses.

I saw this as well. If you want to hate on EA, fine, whatever. I disagree with hating them for such trivial reasons, but you're free to hate them if you must. At the very least give them credit for actually being tolerant and inclusive though, because that's something they definitely do right.

I guess it's cataloguing people's personal experiences. I've never dealt with BoA but I have dealt with EA, so they're worse in my experience: I'm not sure voting based purely on hearsay is grown up either. On the other hand, if it was EA compared to some UK bank or insurer, I'd likely vote for the latter as the worse company. I'm not sure that this is really going anywhere though. For the record, I didn't vote in the poll.

As for EA's response, I thought it sounded rather arrogant, but PR isn't their strong point.

Other devs do and don't showboat about it. That Kotaku piece on EA fielding "thousands" of letters from some fundamentalist group in Florida- released on the same day as the Consumerist results- has got to be the most blatant PR distraction move ever. It's probably one guy with a printer. But it works so EA can wave the "but we like gays!" card.

I've been a customer of both and have never been robbed by BoA. I have been dikeed around by EA. I think you're not getting that the poll is an opinion poll, not a vote by a committee on social causes.

I wont give EA credit for that, becuase stuff like sixuality has no place in the game. Find me one where its relevant, and I will change my view. Before you assume I just hate gays in games, I hate all romance in games.
And then you have EAs execution. They dont have a character like Arcade from FNV, he is gay. But he didnt go on and on about it. Becuase it didnt matter.
Meanwhile Anders hates anyone who dosent swing that way.

They [censored] up the American economy, which [censored] up the other economies. Sure they werent the only ones, but BoA has effected you.

Chances are he has a checking and or savings account with BoA. Completely different division of the same multi-headed demon that is BoA. I guarantee that if he/she held a bank note on a house it'd be a completely different story. Anyone that says EA is worse than BoA is a [redacted]. I'm sorry but I'm the recipient of how BoA treats a hard working home owner and I'm angry with the poll. Yes, I understand it's only a poll f opinion but it's the opinions of other home owners who've been [censored] by BoA that have been ignore by having EA win.

I've had bad dealings with EA but my experience with EA can't compare to how me and my family have been hurt by BoA.

I was actually referring to the $138,000,000,000 (138 billion USD) that US taxpayers gave BoA to keep them from folding due to the negligence (or some would say conspiracy) of their own officers. I realize that a lot of people were affected directly as well, but I was implying that if you pay taxes in the US then BoA has robbed you.

Clearly you have no idea what sixuality even is.

From the Wikipedia article:

sixuality in humans generates profound emotional and psychological responses. Some theorists identify sixuality as the central source of human personality.

It goes FAR beyond six scenes and romance story arcs. A game without sixuality is about as far from being realistic as you can get, which is fine for puzzle games and the like. But when you have a game like Mass Effect? No, sixuality is a VERY important part of the game, especially the story.

And then you have EAs execution. They dont have a character like Arcade from FNV, he is gay. But he didnt go on and on about it. Becuase it didnt matter.
Meanwhile Anders hates anyone who dosent swing that way.

You clearly haven't played Mass Effect 3 then. I haven't spoken to Kaidan in ME3, but Cortez is about as far from Anders as you can get. He's a normal guy, who just happens to be gay. If you don't talk to him about it, you won't realize it.

As for Anders? That's just his character.
