Fast Shot or Trigger Discipline?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:31 pm

Trigger Discipline only reduces your Fire Rate.

Unless you vats all the time or are poor at aiming (Not supposed to be insulting..), Then its useless.

I chose trigger discipline to start with. Then regretted it later.

The extra accuracy is good, but the effort required to simply squeeze another shot out in VATS is way out of proportion to that benefit.

If the old F3 Grim Reaper's Sprint was in play, then I'd say go for trigger discipline, because it would gimp your character in the number of targets able to be engaged in a single VATS session, and still give you the opportunity to engage other targets in the next.

As it stands now though, you can put less rounds on target, but more accurately, but the one thing that improves throughout the game for guns type characters is accuracy, whereas rate of fire improvement really requires some effort to be put into it.

It's not really a true 5 shot to 4 shot reflection either. I think it impacts more on the time it takes in VATS for a shot to occur, although to be honest I haven't really anolysed it. One thing I'm certain of though, and that is that it doesn't matter what type of shotgun my character uses, he still only gets two shots off in a single VATS session.

Turns out the 9mm just isn't an accurate weapon anyway

Just how far away are you trying to use your 9mm? Because I think it's pretty darn accurate for a handgun. Shots at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJAA613_FZE are no problem at all. (This is *with* Fast Shot)

Oh yea that range is just fine. I was trying to hit further. Maybe two or three times that. I thought it would be fine but obviously I expected too much. Often times it hits like I'd expect it to, but sometimes the bullets just don't seem to go anywhere. I'm beginning to wonder if a lot of my bullets are hitting invisible walls. That happens a lot when I'm trying to creep around a rock or wall or if the enemy is next to a rock or some other object. I think tumbleweeds have actually blocked my shots too.

With 10 perception, 10 agi, 100 guns skill, trigger discipline, and hand load ammo I would still miss quite often at MAX drawable range with the AMR due to its spread and not so often with the sniper rifle (which has a fast enough rate of fire to take down groups even with trigger discipline). Trigger discipline makes using VATS with the AMR pointless as it will use 100% of you action points in 1 shot. Trigger discipline had a noticeable effect with the riot shotgun for me... that it made the weapon a bit too slow. I ended up using the AMR on tougher stuff and swapping to the sniper rifle for "fast shooting" and weaker opponents. if you are worried about enemies closing in on you just lay mines and back up....crippled limbs galore.

trigger dis doesn't ruin Mguns :P it just makes me feel a liiiitle bit more confident lining up a long range headshot. machineguns still fire dead fast.

Fast shot hardly harms shotguns once you put slugs in them, as you would to hit something at decent range to begin with.

Flamer is consider EW...so with Fast Shot it is the highest DPS EW along with Pyromaniac.

It's still noticeable even with slugs. What I meant, though, was more towards if you're mostly only using those weapon types. It will hurt your reliable engagement distance with the hunting shotgun even with the choke installed and slugs. You'd either want to skip it or carry other weapons to engage farther.

As for the Flamer, Pyromaniac isn't really enough to put it in the running for highest DPS. It's not even that close. The Heavy Incinerator, on the other hand, does impressive DPS with Fast Shot + Pyromaniac, though I don't think it's still as high as Plasma Caster with Fast Shot + MC ammo.

Right now I'm playing a sneaky guy who's on the intellectual side. He's a perfectionist and generally goes for the 1-shot-kill, so he's using Trigger Discipline and mostly non-automatic rifles. He doesn't waste a lot of ammo. :D

Built for Destroy works better with Trigger Discipline, less more accurate shots means less weapon destruction.

I think the name of the perk is actually "Built For To The Destroying" if I'm not mistaken.

Fast shot. For most weapons, the decrease in accuracy is really only noticeable in VATS.

Uhmmm I just noticed the poll results. Seriously? Trigger discipline 56%? Most of you guys must not like aiming outside of vats. Real time aim accuracy is practically the same when I tried it. Only big difference is rate of fire.

I've never used any of those on my characters. I always use Wild Wasteland and Good Natured. I'm a good shot as it is. Plus the boosts WW and GN give me on start off are to good to pass up.

I've used both extensively, and they don't make much of a difference either way to be honest.

But my choice depends on which weapon type I intend to use. If I'm using automatic weapons I'll take Fast Shot to add to the already high DPS, if I'm using single shot weapons I'll take Trigger Discipline since every shot counts.
