Scar is my hero. Jafar is a good guy. And Captain Barbossa, especially in cursed form.

Jfar was the only one that I feared as a child, I still debate watching that movie when ever it's on and my younger cousins are up

Hades and Scar were awesome villians. Scar is from one of my favourite Disney films and Hades was dark and comical at the same time.

Kingdom Hearts may or may not have influenced my pick.

Still, I probably would have picked Maleficent anyway.

But Maleficent was so lame in KHII :meh:

I'm very familiar with the old tales, grew up on Brothers Grimm and all kinds of old fairy tale books. Elves were some cruel bastards; tricking people into their realm for a few days, only for hundreds of years in the human realm to pass so that when they returned they turned to dust, dwarves were guilty of it too. I recall a certain Lady from the Old Times in Scottish times who had a fondness for skinning children who came too close to her tree alive and hanging their pathetic hides up on her cave's walls.

I don't mind singing as long as the songs are good, and disney movies have a lot of good songs.

Of course, but you know songs like "go the distance" are amazing and as long as they don't seem misplaced I don't mind.

Tangled was a good movie and the mother was a good character, her death was maybe too much for a kids movie IMO.
I've heard that the villain in the Princess and the Frog was good, I haven't seen that one yet though.

Walt Disney, for taking magical folk tales and making them crap.
This
Disney butchered fairytales to make them more appealing to the masses.
Fairytales were supposed to be full of horrific cruelty and bitter disappointment. They served a purpose much like Aesop's Fables, to deter children from taking the wayward path.

Ok, so because Walt Disney is the worst villain for removing some rather brutal scenes from say, Cinderella. Though yes he did totally rewrite Pinocchio on many levels, and Pocahontas really died at the age of 21 or 22, but come on I can think of way worse things to do than change some old stories.

This thread needs poll options, since I can't remember all the Disney villians from all the Disney movies/productions I've seen over the many years. :P
Odd because while I've seen many of their films, I've never been a huge fan of Disney. I sort of stopped liking Disney animation after Beauty & the Beast, too. Alladin had a funny genie & The Lion King was ok, but they just became so same-y feeling. Even the songs started to sound recycled/the same.

I don't mind singing/love musicals, but I do get tired of the lonely heroine singing about wanting romance, while dancing through some field, routine.

That's why I prefer the ones that aren't all about "prince charming", like Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, and Hercules.

For the longest time I thought it was a disney movie. This topic was the only way I found out it wasn't. But yes it is one of my favorites as well!

Maleficent
Damn right. Only decent character in the whole Kingdom Hearts series - no stupidity, and certainly no whining to her.

There is always the Brothers Grimm. I plan to raise my children on both the dark tales of unamed babies being left out in the snow of Scandinavia, only to have their spirits come back and torment the parents who abandoned them, leaving the shattered corpses of any who they came across behind, and the happy everything turns out alright Disney films. Oh and Baba Yaga.

Hell, that's why I love Disney. Tales are at the literature program for my 11 years old. I particularly enjoy telling them about Andersen. The little mermaid ? They're like "oh yeah, pfff, we know the story".

And then I tell them the real one. Such such fun to see their little faces freeze and fall.

Eh. They start out by saying "hey, fairytales are cutey stories for babies", each year. I gotta educate, yeah ?
