The Fall
Opal
U-Men
The Sonics
The Smiths
Matt Johnson
Young Marble Giants
The Birthday Party
Einsturnzende Neubauten
Cheap Trick

I guess these were the sounds of growing up for me, but I still listen to them. The next list is of bands I've been listening to the past year or so.

LCD Soundsystem
Super Furry Animals
9GOATS BLACKOUT
Of Montreal
Florence + the Machine
Fairport Convention
Pentangle
Cardinal

Not a complete list anyway. Lately I've been listening to good old Madlib, LTJ Bukem and Air, just for the *zzzzz* factor, in rotation with Van Halen's first two albums, for the *chunky, cheesy riffs* factor.

Daft Punk and Rise against are my two favorite.

I hate rap, but for some reason I like some of Eminems earlier work. And Not Afraid, that song rocks.

The Smiths
:yuck: The most depressing musical group to ever walk the face of the earth.

Oddly enough, there a a couple of their tunes that are decent...just don't tell anyone I said so.

Heh. Well, I'll be honest and say that my love of them has everything to do with Johnny Marr and nothing to do with Morrissey. Since I never paid attention to the lyrics or singing, they never interfered with my appreciation. I just like the sound of a Rickenbacker.

The most depressing musical group to ever walk the face of the earth.

Isn't that like, the point to their music though? If music is supposed to make you feel emotion, and depression is an emotion, then boom, you're done.

Listen to them too much and you will be done...if you get my drift. :frog:

EDIT:With all this talk of Morrissey and The Smiths, it seems that Jeffredo is curiously absent here.

Pink Floyd (even Gilmour's Floyd)
That's the best Floyd

High Hopes, On the turning away, Sorrow are some of Floyds best tracks imo. The guitar solos in these songs are some of the best and I prefer Gilmours vocals for the most part compared to Waters

Edit:

I think I can guess your favourite Floyd based upon your username

BAH!!!

Barrett spent a few years with them, and Waters and company spent the next 20 years mining the talent he wasn't able to continue producing. Make no mistake, Floyd did some amazing work post Barrett, but in Quite a few pieces of their work, I still hear Barrett's influence even though he's been http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoI1SsZec7M

I agree they produced some amazing work over the 20 or so years after Barrett. There is some real genius stuff after the first 2 albums which I find a bit.... random for lack of a better word. This is just a bit to strange for me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3QFxckeApQ&feature=related

I knew you'd link to that! It is one of the, er... odder things that early Floyd did. Most of which was quite odd anyway.

I really do like a lot of Gilmour's Floyd, and not so much of Syd's. My album preference probably goes something like this:
1. Meddle
2. Atom Heart Mother
3. Division Bell
4. Animals
5. Wish You Were Here
etc.

But I did see Waters' masterpiece on TV the other day (The Wall) and it made me really appreciate the album.

Aw man, I saw these guys 4 years ago knowing nothing whatsoever about the band, and it was seriously one of the best gigs I've ever been to in my life. Been meaning to check out their CDs ever since...

I've heard they're a crazy live band. Their most recent album was brilliant.
