Favorite Pony(ies)

Avenged Sevenfold are probably my favourite.
I took a liking to Iron Maiden and bought 13 albums only to realise I don't really like them at all, even the songs i thought I liked.
Biffy Clyro have a good album that I can listen to over and over.
Green day - are alright as well pre-21st Century Breakdown....I don't like their latest album.
Stereophonics when I'm in the mood are good as well but I'm rarely in the mood for them :P
Red Hot Chilli Peppers have a album worth of good songs, it's just trrying to remember them all so I can download them

There's many individual songs by people/bands that I like but wouldn't say I like the band.

BAH!!!

Barrett spent a few years with them, and Waters and company spent the next 20 years mining the talent he wasn't able to continue producing. Make no mistake, Floyd did some amazing work post Barrett, but in Quite a few pieces of their work, I still hear Barrett's influence even though he's been http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoI1SsZec7M
Why is that bad? It's impossible to work with (talented) musicians without their influence wearing off on you - I've found that in every band I've been in - and there's nothing wrong with using and developing on that influence.

The drummer of that band is an English teacher at a nearby school in my county. During my senior year last year, my Poetry of Rock n Roll teacher had him come in and speak to the class. It was awesome!

I'd like to hear more about that

He teaches at Williamsville High School I think. And I went to Depew HS. He came in and talked about the hardcoe scene, their time as a band trying to tour and go through school at the same time. The Straightedge lifestyle, and how kids in his class (the very few) that know that he wasn't just a teacher. Or how other kids in his class who didn't know who he was would just YouTube his band, and come back the next day at look at him completely differently. :P He basically just gave a great biography of the band and talked about the scene surrounding the music back in the 90's.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they did that. It's just that Syd was no longer capable of contributing to the band, but even though he was no longer physically contributing, he contributed far more to the band than when he was still there.

Perhaps using the term mining, I implied that it was a bad thing. Not my intent to do so.

Explosions in the Sky
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Mogwai
I'd add to this core list of Post-rock bands Sigur Ros and Tortoise, although I like god's pee and Mogwai the most. I really didn't get on the ASMZ bandwagon.

Given then bands you identified from my list, I'm a little surprised you didn't also flag up the Skints and Random Hand. If that's because you've not heard of them yet then I can think of at least one way you could do yourself a favour today :P

I'm a fan of grunge/accoustic guitarwork especially folk-influenced types.

Favorite band: Rush

Rush are incredible!

Do you watch the TV series Chuck? There's one episode called 'Chuck versus Tom Sawyer', and they need to stop some nukes from going off...the 3 of them (Chuck and the 2 CIA/NSA agents there to protect him) each go their own ways to disarm these nukes. One goes to the bad guys base to try and stop them launching the nukes in the first place, another gets ready to shoot the Satellite down from space...and Chuck? Well...he tries to beat Atari's Missile Command because the developer put the go-codes on the Kill screen, which no-one's ever achieved before! You can watch the Rush clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHST5n068bc
