Fixed AMD RAGE driver.

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:09 am

I updated drivers, game still crashes after I open door out of vault.

This really is the worse release of a game that I have ever bought.

I am pretty pissed and sad at the moment, enough to ask for a refund of this game, however steam doesn't give refunds and this game still makes money, what a sad world we live in.

OFFICIAL DRIVER LINK: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU121AMDCatRagePerfDriver.aspx
(Thank you Darth)

Original post:

Fixed driver:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=351811

IMPORTANT: if you are already running the defective Rage performance driver then do a custom install and manually select to reinstall the driver component. They have the same version number so Windows thinks they are the same when they are not.

I have downloaded, installed, and tested this one myself: it works.

The official announcement will no doubt be soon: these are directly off of AMD's file servers.

Edit:

There is still a bit of texture pop-in in Wellsprings but it is greatly improved. Outside in the Wasteland texture pop-in is amazingly improved. Flickering is now completely gone.

It shouldn't matter but my specs:

Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.2 Ghz (Dual-Core Hyperthreaded)
AMD Radeon 6870 1GB
8GB RAM
On-board audio
Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 with all Windows Updates applied.

Well I uninstalled 11.9 drivers installed these new drivers and now Rage won't even start anymore I get a Rage has stopped working Error in windows I previously used the 11.9 amd drivers and that made things worse the 11.8 drivers were the best but no matter what the game is unplayable in any form. The last time I tried to play 11.9 right before these drivers I could not even move my char. Even though my system is a bit old i can run all current games I can even run BF3 Beta but this game will not function properly I was able to complete the first quest int he game but the FPS was so low it was barely possible then with the newer drivers i keep trying like everyone else it's only gotten worse to where i can't even run it now. I'm using the Steam version. I'm really disappointed ID software and Bethesda your pants are down and I see a huge brown racing stripe in your underwear something is starting to stink that's the last pre-order i do with these companies. I have basically bought a $60.00 boat anchor and I don't even own a boat! So I await drivers that work and I await you patching the options menu so I can adjust my graphics manually man up guy!

My specs are:
Alienware area 51
CORE 2 DUO 2.13GHZ E6400
3GB ram
ATI 5870
Vista 32 Home Premium
2 WD Caviar black 500GB Raid 0

I along with the many others have tried both versions of the official AMD drivers and various others with no progress.
The major texture problems have partially gone away with the newest 10/4 release, but the game freezes every several seconds making it unplayable.

For single GPU configurations  . Looks like my extra GPU will go to waste. Shoulda designed my PC after a console.

The newest drivers make it 10 worse for me.

I was just getting the texture pop-in/low fps.

However with these drivers, I'm getting like lonnnnnnng pauses and freezes, literally can't even move or anything (as opposed to the older drivers, that were just like 24'ish fps low but no freezing/pauses).

Running on an E8400 @ 3.6, 4 gb ram, 5850.

Tried installing the new drivers and now Rage won't even load. If someone is willing can they tell me if I did something wrong, cause maybe I'm just being a noob.

1. I uninstalled all my current drivers.
2. Rebooted
3. Installed new driver that was just released today.
4. Rebooted
5. Went to start Rage and it instantly crashed.

Thanks for any help/tips you guys can give me. I really just want to play the game : (

The new RAGE drivers almost seem to make the texture popping while looking left and right a bit worse than before. Perfomance is good but still getting that texture popping issue. The game is enjoyagble aside from the texture issues and lack of graphics tweaks in the options. Also getting no Crossfire usage on my 5970, only uses one GPU. Disappointing so going to let this one sit until it gets some patch and AMD/ATI CAP love.

New updated drivers worked for me.
Everything is running like it should now. Very smooth frame rate, no more strange artifacts, barely any texture pop-in.
Make sure you follow the uninstall instructions.

Here is what CCC tells me about the software:

Driver Packaging Version 8.892.3-111003a-126338E-ATI
Catalyst Version 11.9
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1186
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000
Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0860
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.11298
AMD VISION Engine Control Center Version 2011.1003.1201.19668

AMD phenom 1090T
ATI 6850
8GB ram
120 GB SSD
Windows 7 ultimate

Running at 1080p, 8x AA, ~60fps

Good luck everyone. This really was a terrible launch. Sad.

Well, I spoke too soon. Now almost all the NPCs are flashing pretty badly. Not game breaking, but not very cool either.
Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for. Oh wait, this was the most expensive computer game I have ever bought.

I'm just chiming in to add my experience - running the latest driver released today, I believe the texture pop-in has improved but I'm now getting some pretty bad tearing and the pop-in is still immersion breaking. So much for pre-ordering for fun at launch, I'll be waiting for a real fix for the texture pop-in - until then Rage is getting shelved.

This is the first time I've been disappointed with an id game at launch. It looks like Rage has a lot of potential, but I'm feeling pretty punished as a PC gamer right now - consoles holding us back big time.

Wish I could say the same.

I have almost the exact same specs.
And the exact same CCC info.
But still have major tearing, pop-in and super low quality texture problems.

Sadly, the driver hasn't fixed things; the texture pop in when turning is slightly better but still there. Meanwhile, while moving there's a fuzzy, distorted band now running across the horizontal center of my screen while playing.

Almost the same setup.

8 gb ram
win7

only difference is processor and hard drive. Probably ram speed as well. All of those are slower than yours but should be more than capable of running Rage at 40+ fps

Other than that using the exact same drivers and the problem is still there :/

Well I was using 11.8 and they were giving me 2fps if I was lucky when the game started after the opening cinematic. I uninstalled the drivers (manual uninstall), rebooted, driver cleaner, rebooted, installed oct 4 driver, rebooted. Now the game CTD right after the cinematic and the game starts to load.
My Nvidia based pc runs fine but the graphics are hit and miss sharp and blurry. I am assuming though that is just how the game was designed.

This update did absolutely nothing to improve my graphical output on my 5870, the performance remains terrible.

NPC blink just went away for some reason. Just played for 3 hours with no problems what so ever. Game ran really well and is pretty fun! I didn't change any thing. I just quit and came back an hour or so and it just started working. Sorry that probably doesn't help anyone. Just wanted to post an update for anyone who cares.

Any one having issues with the game crashing during loading of zones? It's happening on almost every zone I go in.

They didn't work for me. Terrible performance with insufferable stutter.

Last game I pre-order, that's for sure :(

Just wanted to follow up - After installing this latest performance driver, the game is running beautifully on my HD4870. Artifacts are gone, texture pop-in is greatly reduced to the point where i don't even notice it anymore, and my framerate has significantly improved. I am now enjoying the game frustration-free.

I'm still having issues with the textures loading when you turn to look left or right

Same here.

I have brought this game after I done some research, I put a config file into the Rage-base folder, I put that folder for hard drive cache, put that AMD RAGE driver fix, and I just about got the same spacs as the op and the game works fine said for some glitches with the pistol which it flickers with the shell of the bullet above the gun when I am in shadows. Before the AMD fix (I thought i get away from that.) I had white artefacts like glass showering down on me.
