Generations of Armor

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:47 pm

Going by the reoccurring armor sets in at least the last 3 games which do you think have gotten better or worse.
Oblivion Leather > Skyrim Leather
Skyrim Fur > Oblivion Fur
Skyrim Iron > Oblivion Iron
Skyrim Glass > Oblivion Glass
Oblivion Shrouded > Skyrim Shrouded
Skyrim Steel Plated > Oblivion Steel
Oblivion Daedric > Skyrim Daedric
Oblivion Elven = Skyrim Elven (the shoes in Ob are better than skyrim, the rest skyrim is better)
Skyrim Dwarven > Oblivion Dwarven (Ob has a better helm though)
Oblivion Orcish > Skyrim Orcish
Oblivion Mithril > ...wait what?
Skyrim Blades > Oblivion Blades (the armor)
Skyrim Ebony > Oblivion Ebony
Oblivion Imperial > Skyrim Imperial
Skyrim Guard > Oblivion Guard
Oblivion Chainmail > ...Dammit not again

Oblivion Savior's Hide > Skyrim Savior's Hide
Skyrim Masque of Clavicus > Oblivion Masque of Clavicus

The reason i have no Morrowind sets listed is because the graphic quality makes them inferior (for me)
This thread is about aesthetics

I find it funny that the armor in Skyrim covers less of your body than the armor in OB, especially considering how cold it is.

well nords are resistent to frost if im not mistaken, i remember in morrowind bloodmoon expansion when at solthisiem (sp) that all the other races except nords would take a lil dmg in certain areas because of the cold

I HATE the shrouded armor in skyrim, in Oblivion i felt like an assassin in it, but in skyrim it is just a body suit with patches sewn on

I quite like the roman legion feel to the Imperials armour, light and heavy. Though the palace guard from Oblivion still has rights to best guard armour.

All skyrim armours are better I think, apart from steel. Steel plate looks awesome, but ordinary steel just looks a bit weird.
Oblivion leather looks better than skyrim leather too.

Worst armour is the stormcloaks, they just look like more guards. I have no idea why Bethesda couldn't be bothered to add a little design to them, perhaps add a cloak for their namesake.

Skyrim's Daedric Armor is way better looking than Oblivion's Daedric Armor.

Compared to Skyrim's Daedric Armor, Oblivion's does not look menacing whatsoever. Heck I'd go as far to say that Oblivion's Deadric Armor looks a little cartoonish. I like Skyrim's because it looks like it actually came from Oblivion.

Skyrim's daedric looks like somebody was trying to make ebony but had a blacksmithing level of 2 (out of 100), in Oblivion the armor has a sideways mouth on the face and a CROWN of spikes. Not to mention the gauntlets have a big spike on them that looks like it was made for clearing brain matter. Skyrim's has no ornamentation or creativity

Having played both Skyrim and Oblivion recently, I can safely say that I MUCH prefer Skyrim's armors to Oblivion's.
And also, you've complained about the lack of Mithril and chain mail, but haven't commented on the new studded, hide and dragon armors. ;)

that is because those werent in the past game. I listed mithril and chain because they should be in skyrim

skyrim has awesome armor...and crappy helmets. The only armors i feel strongly about are the dwarven being better in oblivoin (especially the helm, the skyrim one looks like a robot face...which is probably what they were going for) and the deadric. Skyrim deadric looks...sinister, oblivions looks sort of rust i guess, i don't know i guess skyrims armor just has a cooler looking texture to it, it actually looks like the main component is ebony
