Although I would agree that there is some resistance to change I also believe that many negative comments about suggested additions do fall into the "it doesn't fit the TES universe" realm. Thrown weapons were in previous TES games, then were taken out. Adding them back in would be fine as it still fits in the game. Grenades or splash potions, although a good idea, never was in the game and doesn't quite fit, imo, into TES.
The difference, to me, from other RPG's that have such features is a very extensive lore in TES that others do not have. Not to say that everything must fit lore, but it helps when it does.
Just because one (or multiple) fantasy genre game has it doesn't mean it fits into all fantasy genre settings.
And just because it may not have been in previous installments of a game series doesnt mean it cant be brought in, of course with everything that has been taken out of the series the chance of grenade type potions being added in future Elder Scrolls games is slim to nil (well at least until they give us back our crossbows, throwing weapons, spears ect) however I feel that they would be a great addition to the game and a great way to expand the alchemy skill.
Alchemy is already a big part of the Elder Scrolls universe and we know the ancient Nords created traps using flamable oil so what would be so wrong with extending the alchemy skill to cover the crafting and use of combustable potions or even splash damage potions for that matter? Covertly poisoning somebody by slipping a poison vial into their pockets is perfectly fine but splash potions are stupid?
I get it, sometimes change isnt always for the best but most Elder Scrolls fans seem to be flat out opposed to change merely because it is different, like they expect every new installment to be exactly the same as the last only with better graphics, how can we expect games to evolve if we dont keep our minds open to new ideas and concepts?
Good to know that because you can't actually debate the subject you call me a troll.
"Dense," from the one who is saying just because "it's TES" magical grenades can't fit.
Next you'll tell me that because it's TES it should never have chimeras.
Forget it Eric, its the Elder Scrolls forums.
