Gernades and other thrown items

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 11:04 am

I was wondering if you guys think being able to craft grenades or have (300 style) spears to throw would work in this game. i know adding a perk tree for these abilities is probably out of the question but would adding these be doable in Skyrim or if not in Skyrim how about future games. i was thinking the grenades don't have to be like modern ones but with alchemy create a bottle of flammable gas like how you can burn people with the hanging lanterns. or a pepper spray style one that can be used in a non lethal playthrough that would basically paralyze someone without hurting them.

Eh, I just feel like grenades aren't needed nor do they fit in the game. If you want to toss a grenade, learn a fire spell. However, yes to throwable spears (and non-throwable).

Grenades no this is Skyrim not Fallout. As for throwing spears could be cool.

I used throwing weapons in Morrowind. Between not finding them again and their rarity, I quickly stopped throwing things at my enemies. Plus in that game, the damage was not that high for those weapons.

Picking up arrows in this game leads me to think that I would not want to chase my spear(s) around the game. Nor, would I want to lose them.

There's a pretty cool mod I use that allows you to make javelins, throwing axes, daggers and bombs so it is possible it could be added. Throwing a spear and impaling a charging bandit never gets old.

I like the setting of traps idea, that could be very useful for archer type characters.

...Am I seriously the only person who didn't try to derail the topic? Come on, guys...

You mix a potion with volitile ingredients. You throw it, upon impact you get a boom, usually of elemental energy. Hell, D&D has this, even freaking MINECRAFT has this. It's not hard to know what he's talking about, at least show him the respect of answering his questions without being a jerk about it.

Aye, a way to use alchemy for offensive effects that weren't a hassle. I mean, face it - poison's a pain to use. With splash potions, you could do all sorts of things. Just make a material that, when used as a third item, converts a potion into a splash potion. Some effects would be retained, but others would change. For example:

Weakness to Frost would remain Weakness to Frost...
Resistance to Frost, however, would change to Frost Damage
Fortify Restoration could change to Damage Restoration. Those pesky mage foes now burn through a lot more mana with their spells.

Since splash potions are offensive by design, it'd be rather easy to just have a simple conversion of most effects.

How many people actually read the OP? Come on, there is already oil in the game in several places. Falling oil traps that explode, oil on the ground ingnitable with fire magic, like those. Make those in potion form. Maybe the Dwemer Oil ingredient could be used for fire, along with fire salts maybe? Just giving ideas.

If you want to toss a grenade, learn a fire spell.

Could the same argument be made for healing potions? Like I could say "If you want to use a healing potion, learn a healing spell"?

Personally I like the idea of grenade type potions, be great for alchemist type characters and would also expand upon the Alchemy skill. Also I would love to see any sort of throwing weapon whether that be throwing knives or just being able to throw whatever you have equiped at the time.
