Glitches caused by the 1.2

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 3:17 pm

I'm not sure this is due to the patch, but this is certainly a new glitch for me.

I made a sneak attack on a dragon with a bow from very far away. The dragon, who was flying at the time, dove straight in the ground, flew directly upward into the air, got stuck in the sky, and convulse to the point where I get roughly 1 frame per second. His health resets, so additional hits have no effect.

Thank you for all warnings guys. I believe Bethesda should choose their testers more carefully after all.

Haven't left Whiterun yet, I don't want to get too into the game with all of these bad reports.

When standing inside Whiterun, looking over the city wall, the surrounding plains appear flat and untextured, with just the base color patterns showing with no overlayed textures. The surrounding rivers appear to have no water in them at all.

Assuming they are even using testers...it's hard to believe errors of this magnitude got by anyone unless this was just not tested.

That IS unfortunate. Joking of course, I just tested this out and power attacks are still draining my stamina. Could be just me, or just you.

After leaving Whiterun, the plains have been repopulated with rocks, textures, creatures, and houses. When I sprinted towards the Whiterun gate before leaving the city, the textures of the gate did not adjust themselves until after I had already reached the gate and stopped moving, at which point they visibly adjusted in detail.

Getting the backwards flying dragons issue as most folks have so far.

Texture issue does seem to be fixed though. So far, I have not run into any of the other issues some of you have been experiencing (i.e. bookshelf, weapon racks).

Still the Dragon issue is most annoying.

Much as I would love the blame game, as a QA Tester, I also know that at times, things can be missed. With the tens of thousands of lines of code that I'm certain go into this game, its fairly easy for things to break now and then.

Now mind you, I'm not exactly forgiving them either for this snafu. This is a rather significant bug, given that the object (in this case the Dragons), have a significant impact to the game play overall.
Add on some of the other issues, and you got yourself some serious issues.

I would hope that they address this issue as quickly as possible. The best we can do is give them as much info as we can without any sort of snark, so that they can find the source of the problem and fix it just as quickly.

Actually, I think with a game like Skyrim we'd be talking more like millions if not hundreds of millions of lines of code. There's probably a line of code for every person playing the game right now, if not more.

I just fast traveled to Ancient's Ascent to fight the dragon there, and I didn't really experience much problem. I did notice that the dragon focused his attacks exclusively on Barbas, like he didn't even notice me. There was one point where he circled around and seemed to plunge towards the ground at an unnatural rate, slight framerate drop there, but then it was back to normal, running up behind the dragon and hitting him in the tail with my sword while he focused entirely on Barbas. Made the fight way too easy. I absorbed the dragon's soul and learned the word of power without any problem.

It did seem that his fire attacks weren't doing as much damage as they should have, whenever his fire was directed towards me.

I haven't seriously tested elemental resists but a couple of mages I fought didn't seem to be hitting me for anything too crazy.
I'm going looking for a dragon in a minute but so far I've really encountered no issues... Textures look great.

So I'm quietly concerned that the whole game could explode in my face at any moment.

No official word on downloading 1.2 being a rly bad idea or not...

Would like clarification on risk to my save basically.

If patch is going to be pulled... tell people now so no more peeps download it.

Funny man, but go and fight a dragon on master and watch as your health goes from 100%-0% in a heartbeat without your resistances to save you.

That and the fact that he'll be hard to hit moonwalking all around the place.

Nothing against anybody on these forums, but I’m not taking anyone a hundred percent serious due to the fact that you don’t work for Beth. I think I’ll just wait until they release an official report if we should worry about this patch or not. It’s like Y2K all over again except on a forum.

"Would like clarification on risk to my save basically."

I think it just has to do with the way saves are associated with update versions. If you load your save in version 1.2, that save becomes associated with 1.2 and cannot be opened if you remove the update and attempt to play it without it. For this reason, I'm only playing on an old autosave for now, not my most recent save file.

I've encountered no problems since this latest patch, apart from a crash on loading. Still many people are saying that resistances are broken, but i have no resistances so i'll see when i'll play a nord, a dunmer or an overpowered enchanter (no chance for the third one, need some challenge to enjoy the game ^ ^).

This is confirmed. It seems to be only affecting the randomly scripted Dragons that appear out of nowhere as opposed to the Dragons that are assigned to the Dragon Word altars. I just fought a Dragon over on Northwind Summit and, aside from nearly being killed by a Blood Dragon (nasty buggers), everything proceeded as normal.

Hope this clarifies things some.

So is the update a must to play the game or can you decline?

DECLINE.

This update is...awful. I am done with the game until it is fixed because everything is worse. So much worse.

If you want to see the broken resistance issue, summon a flame atronach and cast a fire spell on it. Normally it would be immune to fire, but since Bethesda completely [censored] the resistances, it will now take normal damage.

The third is kinda required to play the game on master and survive most encounters i.e. looping gear etc.

However because resistances are down, so are weaknesses which means all magical beast encounters no longer take +dmg and they'll hit you for the boatload they've got.

I'm quite sure that those guys are working so hard to fix these issues so far. Remember Vampire Bloodlines, remember how great that game was and all bugs it had during first days of the release date.

I have never been in a world like this for a price like $60 before. Let's wait a little more.

I've had no problems with weapon racks dragon flight ect. But i had a slight problem with the Dark Brotherhood questline at a certain part the screen goes black at the end of the objective and didnt come back up :brokencomputer: I dont know if it was caused by the patch because I never tried it before i reloaded the game several times with the same result I finally found a way to fix it. If you have the same problem message me.

In the words of Toby Turner
Peace Off !

You'll end up with some resistance or another in your gear in higher levels. Even with a lot of health, getting caught by Dragon Breath is a near-death experience just the first time. Resistance becomes almost necessary, especially on higher difficulties.

I just finished a "boss fight" sans resistances and had to pop potions mid-breath to keep from dying. Big bad black dragon meant I had to use almost all of my potions, with a game-breaking "open menu every three seconds or die" amount of damage from constant fire.

It's a huge game. But playing it a lot means forgiving a lot of little glitches, and some medium glitches, and sometimes reloading repetitively because of a bigger glitch where escort or quest characters change zones and absolutely must kill you.

But there are now big, ugly, crushing issues. So "waiting" is going to turn into "forgetting what I wanted to do next" and it's going to really dent my desire to play. If you're enjoying a delicious cake and come across a human thumb in your piece, it's really hard to look at that cake the same way.
