Good old movies you've seen recently for the first time.

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 9:25 am

I recently saw Taxi Driver, Once Upon a Time in America(full 229m version), and The Godfather Part I, II, and III, for the first time,

Oh and by old movies I basically mean movies before 1990.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was superb. So I bought the Clint Eastwood Western boxset. Just need to find a time I want to watch them.

Haha, speaking of that I recently got the Man with No Name trilogy(Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly) on blu-ray. Great movies

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_(1953_film) with Marilyn Monroe. It was actually quite good, filmed in Technicolor in the 1950s. Movies like that are always fun to watch for me - they're like this stylized time-capsules of post WWII American culture.

"Kingdom of Heaven" (2005) was on Turner Classics a few nights ago, and I had never seen that one and thought it was exceedingly well done.

It's not super old but it's all I could think of at the moment.

Beautifully shot and an awesome soundtrack.

Not before 1990, but I watched Reservoir Dogs not too long ago. It was awesome. I actually enjoyed it more than Pulp Fiction.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1csr0dxalpI&feature=related Ranks high on my list of best movies ever actually, with Yojimbo and Seven Samurai and Hatari. Whole reason I saw it was because of that youtube clip.

*sigh* They just don't make them like they used to.

Saw Breakfast Club for the second time a few weeks back. First time in ages, and first time sober, so it was sort of a new experience for me. An exquisite kind of new experience, for that film is as fine a piece of eighties beauty as any...

Near Dark was surprisingly good for a vampire movie from the eighties.

Yep, I need to see some of his movies again now that I'm all growed-up. He was an incredible juggler as well!

For an old movie that I like, most of the "US is the best" style WWII movies fit my bill such as The Longest Day and In Harms Way.

Other movies, since you consider old being pre1990:

Blazing Saddles, The pre-cross-boarder portion of Stripes, Animal House, Young Frankenstien (Schteen!), 1-2-3 (quick banter), To Kill a Mockingbird, The Man Who Shot LIberty Vallence, Arcenic and Old Lace

I'll stop there

edit: crap, haven't seen most of those for the first time LOL

I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey recently.

It's not a movie, it's a FILM.

The Spy Who Came in from the Cold

I really liked it. It was almost as good as Where Eagles Dare. Richard Burton!
