I've used google since I was a little kid so it was probably when they first started so I guess I'm just so used to using it I won't use anything else.

Google.

Since you can just type your search in the address bar, there is no reason to go to another search site.

Google, because Bing is sad and I haven't used Yahoo! in forever.

Google, definitely. I thought about using DDG, but reading their little spiel turned me off right quick for some reason.

What about our foreign, non-English surfers? Do you all also use Google? I know some regional search engines are more helpful than Google, about topics related to that region.

In school, I use bing to get to google.
That's hilarious.
Ah yes. I still remember being forced by my Elementary School teachers to use Ask Jeeves instead of Google. They also demanded that we typed in all our inquiries in the form of a question, because the people on the other side wouldn't know what you were searching for if you didn't.
Damn, they made me do this, too.

No, because of http://dontbubble.us/. I mean, sure, they get points for using XKCD, but it's all too simplistic of an argument. "X is bad! We don't do X! Use us!"

Not quite. They're saying, "X is bad because it tends to tell you what you want to hear. We don't do X, use us!". If you're trying to find out more about a topic, how is it good to be served up things which line up with your beliefs?

It didn't do much for me one way or the other. I already knew about the filter bubble. I tried a few comparison searches, and DDG seems to throw up more interesting links. That's what matters to me for most of my searching. The rest I do on deep net. I'll try it out and report back. Maybe Google will no longer be my go-to?

People generally don't surround themselves with ideas they don't agree with. Or even take particular stock in ideas they don't agree / believe in.

And Google uses web history to "filter" out results - but I turned off my web history with Google literally years ago, so they don't have the ability to filter based on my preferences.

Basically, Google gives me the same, if not better results then DDG.

Google. I've used it since literally day one. I get the best results with them out of all the search engines I use. Bing is just rebranded Live/MSN/whatever else they've changed the name to over the years in my mind.

However, I do miss Alta Vista.

I'm aware of that. But on the occasions that they do make some attempt to break out of their biases, I don't think it's a good thing for them to discover that their beliefs were well founded after all (whether they were or not). Plus, having to dig more to find stuff that agrees with them may have some positive effect .

I, too, have blocked Google's cookies. But plenty of people don't, and DDG is hardly going to point out plugins such as http://www.ghostery.com/, are they? :P

Google creeps me out. the way they garner, profile and sell your search habit info. After I found they keep email messages indefinitely I dropped gmail and google search engine.

My only problem with Google is that it's highly dangerous to search for My Little Pony pictures.. :( And I suppose that's the case for most stuff when searching for images, even on nun-mode.
Because of the pre "friendship is magic" stuff?

Hive-Mind search algorithms. It links your mind to every other mind using andy-net. Everyone knows exactly what your searching for and can point you directly to what you're looking for.

It's pretty advanced. Privacy is a bit of an issue for some though.

I'd feel like someone's breathing on my neck as they stare at my screen from over my shoulder... It may be a cool idea, but it's not for me.
