Has this game ever genuinely scared you?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:45 pm

Anyone here care to share the points in the game where you've soiled yourselves a little in fear?
I dont mean the slightly jumpy edgy fear when you're running around dungeons full of undead and find yourself periodically turning around to check there's nothing crawling up behind you to rip your head from the rest of your body.

I mean, fully fledged fear that's made your palms sweaty and has caused you to have to stop gaming for a while to have a stiff drink?

I'm generally not too jumpy when playing games like this, allthough I admit that I'll never ever explore a dungeon without all the lights in the house on.

I was exploring some deep deep cavern in markarth, with all the dwarven stuff. I've been prepared for the shiny balls thanks to the loading screens and their handy info, but I wasnt expecting just how swift those things are or how stealthy.
But, easily beatable, and my charecter struts on with causal bravado, and turns the next corner confidently ready to smash more shiny things.
To come face to face with this massively tall, spindly creature, with red glowing eyes and slits for noses..

Somehow so far in the game I've never met these creatures and I've never seen them discussed allthough from looting their bodies I gather these are the falmer.

It's weird, to get get de-sensitized to undead, trolls, hairy horny blacksmiths and dragonbastards spewing flames from the skies, but these things were most unexpected.

That's it. Count me out of any Dwarf tomb expeditions, I'm going into retirement.
Rather, I'm going to bed.
With all the lights on.

Not in the sense of scary really, but I've jumped a few times from dragons or mages attacking at once, without warning. Out of nothing there is noise everywhere lol

I got freaked out buy the dwemer centurion but that was a moment of awe. I have jumped in sudden fright though because of random enemies and noises. I have never been scared though.

I never actually got scared. I was startled on a few occasions though and sometimes, a little panicky. But that was usually when I was fighting an Elder Dragon or a Dragon Priest.
The "oh crap!" moments usually involved me sneaking through a Nord burial dungeon and --thinking that I killed all the sleeping Draugr-- turned a corner to see one standing upright and coming alive six inches away from me.The Sabre Cats are notorious for coming out of nowhere straight at you and startling the piss outta you. Another instance that gets me everytime; the followers suddenly spawning where you are and running towards you. Half the time I think it's an enemy for a split second before realizing who it is. lol

After the Splicers that snuck up and stood behind you until you turn around in Bioshock I have a lower baseline so no real "scary" moments here, but I do get creeped out by the Predator rattle noise the skeletons make.

I've been creeped out by the dwemer ruins.

Have to mentally whistle a happy tune in Blackreach. The giant down there really bothers me. WTF is he doing there?

More startled. I was creeping through a crypt, going up some stairs with an arrow nocked looking for the next Draugr to kill, I was looking down the hall as I crested the top of the stairs and completely missed the Frostbite sitting right at the top of the stairs. As my head came level with the top of the stairs, I was looking down the hall under his belly at the candles to see if there was an enemy there, and suddenly it was inches from my face. I dropped my controller, and the arrow I had nocked killed it, and my controller landed on the shoulder button, activating FUS and sending it down the hall. Pretty funny all in all.

I don't think there is anything that is truely "scarry" in the game to the point that you ar asking.

I've jumed a few times playing it, but that is about it.

Never scared. A good deal like what the others said above, but not scared. When I played Deadspace I got scared.

I freaked out when Molag Bal made the house shake and things flew around. He commanded me and that guy to kill each other and I was thinking oh [censored] what do I do.

In the light house, that bug creature slaughtered the family. What a horror story...

Dwemer ruins make me very uncomfortable to say the least... Those noises, the steam pipes, and the scary Falmer... Are they really blind? They always attack me straight away and are very hard to beat! And yes, the first time a Dwarven Sphere came to live, I almost [censored] my pants. I was dead in a wink.

When its dark out and I hear wolves, but cant figure where they are coming from. I usually find myself spinning in circles, until as Im turning they appear right in my face jumping on me. Ill jump a little and my heart wil race for a brief second. Which is sad because I think the last time a wolf has been a challenge was probably 60+ levels ago for me.

Two times I was scared.

1. I was in one of the caves near Riverwood and at like level 10. As I rounded a corner I came upon a few small spiders and killed them. I then walked forward past the dead spiders only to see a giant spider drop down from the ceiling. Scared the excrement out of me.

2. House of Horrors. 'nuff said

Ha, I got jumped by wolves at a low level at night playing a weak mage on master (with a darker nights mod)... I barely survived, because they were hounding me from all sides, and my spells kept missing and lighting trees on fire. Eventually, I found a dip in the landscape to jump off of to get some distance, blasted the wolves with a flames spell or eight, and as I'm standing there with only a sliver of health as the last soul trap spell absorbs the last wolf, I hear a grunting snuffling sound behind me! WTF! MORE WOLVES?

I wheel around with my heart pounding, and there's a fox glaring back up at me like "Dude! Calm down! I not goan eet yous!"

Damn foxes... why do they have to sound so much like wolves? :)

I've startled myself a few times when I've knocked over something when sneaking. The soul gem traps get my attention,

Only thing in TES games that ever scared me, was in morrowind. Going into an ancestral tomb and opening some chest that asked me if i really wanted to open it or not. Then, words came up : "You suddenly feel quite cold" ....I got goosebumps IRL. Turned out to be a few skeletons and a bone lord or something like that though :P

I've jumped a few times haha.
One time I was in a dungeon, and I had just killed a ton of draugrs so it was taking my time to loot. Then bam, deathlord in my face.
Another I was minding my own business running around the wilderness then a troll jumps overhead.
Both times were slightly startling haha.

Only time I have ever been scared was when I cut a womans head off I go back to get some loot and her head is blinking.
