Has this game ever genuinely scared you?

LIke others sudden sounds have made me jump a few times and also when I was around Level 5 I ran into a wandering Giant who was nowhere near any of the camps and I kind of freaked out when I just seen him standing there and looking at me lol after I heard heavy breathing haha

I was enjoying the scenery, found the enterance to an old ruin with some loot stacked around it. I make sure no enemies (or anyone else) is around then start grabbing stuff. A minute or so later I hear a male scream and see some Male npc standing right beside me. I screamed, almost dropped the controller and listened to the npc complain I scared him.

There was only one time I was scared, and that's when I was wondering through some caverns. I was going through there without a follower (just back from a dark brotherhood contract, thought I'd explore a bit.) I was poking around and went down into a dead end hallway and poked around for a bit, arranging cups and tankards on a chest. I turned around, and a master vampire was standing right there, six inches away from me, glitched... it doesn't sound scary, but it was two in the morning, I had the volume down, was not expecting it, and he was just. Right. There. Needless to say, his face was in my dreams that night.

no but i did get my very first "OW [censored]!" raised 2 feet in the air moment yesterday. Lvl 41 beserker, i roaming around during the day and i see water fall, im like..mmmm i wonder if theres anything behind this waterfall. Well i jump into the river swim up to the waterfall and theres maybe a fot of space behind it..and i see nothing. Im like well damn THEN all of a sudden the wall breaks off and its freaking mudcrab in my face outta nowhere all pinching at me! I was faced ot face with its position when he came up from looking liek a rock and it was in face....needless to say my beserker in the first ime of his life screamed like a lil girl before he really knew what it was..killed it then went and killed EVERY bystander, traveler, villager in that area just to make sure that ANYONE who heard me scream like a lil girl was 6 feet under telling no one....

I entered the Skooma building in Riften and there was this loud breathing noise that went on until I killed everyone. It freaked me out.

After the Splicers that snuck up and stood behind you until you turn around in Bioshock I have a lower baseline so no real "scary" moments here, but I do get creeped out by the Predator rattle noise the skeletons make.
this.

The time I killed a dragon in the middle of Winterhold (which startled me in the first place because I had never been attacked by a dragon while I was in town before)... I loot his body, sprint down the road out of town, and BOOM! Sabre Cat. Killed me in one shot, never even saw the bugger until I was dead.

I also kept jumping out of my seat when my conjured familiars would time out for the first 10 levels or so that I played a mage. The sound that little ghost wolf makes is terrifying when you think you're all alone in the middle of a silent crypt.

near solitude, in the marshes accros the river there, toward morthal
I was calmly foraging for mushrooms ...
when a freaking giant spider leaped on my back and nearly killed me in just one stroke

she was the hugue variety, like the one in markath dwemer dungeon
that alone was scary since it was night, and the first thing I saw was those ugly hairy paws
I was like level 1, so needless to say I ran all the way to solitude,
consuming some mix of seared slaughterfish, sweetrolls, salmon steak and what not on the way

I wasn t that scared since I played Diablo I
(Diablo II was not scary)

recently I was scared again, at level 50+ (master difficulty)
when I was in the vocanic area
I was attacked by an elder dragon
bigger and nastier than ancient dragons
and that thing took a slice of me, as if I was a sweetroll
(at that level with my gear, I m usually nearly invulnerable)

fortunately I was immune to it s breath element, so that helped

other thing was that area was crawling with giants.

I was never actually scared of since I usually don't tend to be scared, but there are some minor things that make me feel like saying "wtf that thing just was".

Couple of them include me being jumpy after seeing a shadow passing above me on the ground.

Wtf moment was today when I passed by one of the ruins. I came over from the mountain side so I missed all the Fosworn's and I never saw or heard of one before either. I saw that big Dragon wall from the distance and came down just to see 2 hagravens chanting over a corpse with horned head and hole in the chest and it came to life and they attacked me. 1stly I thought they are chanting over Hircine or something :P It was quite creepy!

I'm scared of the walking mannequins in the basemant of Honeyside. They are like the weeping angels in "Blink".

Do not turn off Vsync. Just a cautionary tale:

I turned off vsync to try and improve my abysmal FPS in Skyrim, and I had noticed a few minor physics glitches, like opening a door and all the movable objects in the area would fly around, dead sabre cats floating to the heavens, etc, you know, nothing major.

Then I went into a dungeon.

Everything goes smoothly until I see a Skeever in a wall. Yes, IN the wall. I thought to myself "...That's not right." but pressed on anyway. Directly after i passed the wall with the skeever, i came across a long, narrow corridor and proceeded down it. Before I knew what was happening, a GIANT (even in name) Frostbite Spider appears from UNDER THE FLOOR directly in my face. Now, I am completely afraid of spiders, even in video games. So when this happened, I freaked out, fell out of my computer chair and then immediately closed skyrim, enabled vsync, and downloaded every no spider mod on the nexus.

The End :D

tl;dr: Yes, I've genuinely been scared in Skyrim.

Skyrim is the first RPG I have ever played, I was talked into buying it by the GameStop associate. He had noticed I was preordering the collectors editions for the big games coming out this past year, and for six months he kept recommending Skyrim. Finally I asked him a bunch of questions about the series, watched the promo video etc., I ordered the Collectors Edition and picked it up on 11-11. I get home and pop the game into my PS3 and start playing it, still knowing practically nothing about it. While the Imperial and I are trying to escape through the caves, we came up on the Frostbite Spiders but I was looking in another direction (admiring the scenery) and I turned to see who he was fighting. Right in front of me taking up the whole tv screen was a huge Frostbite Spider, and I screamed. Thankfully none of my neighbors were home at the time, or I would never have heard the end of it.

Another time I got scared was in Blackreach. I was sneaking around, watching out for Falmer and when I swung my bow left, I was looking at the feet of a Dwarven Centurion. I just about jumped out my skin and nearly let loose the arrow I had drawn. Thankfully I was able to retreat hastily and pick him off from a distance.

If it's any consolation, I've pretty much devoted a character to punching bears in the face.

Hmm on 1 game i had bought the riften home and used an Leather armour on the Armour Dummy,s in the cellar too test them
than i did some enchanting and had too reload my game for some change , when i walked into the cellar the Dummy was standing in the middle of the cellar floor giving me almost an hearth atack lol i was so fixid in the game and it was midnight the Black shadow randomly teleporting in my cellar was really scary , after that incident i never set foot in my riften house again because i think it is cursed.

Also 1 time i killed some bandits somewhere in Skyrim a few hours later when i was in my Whiterun Home i needed too sleep 1 month too
resize my save file and cleanup the enviroment sundently i got a message "You cant rest while enemy,s are around" ? ? ?
So i walked too the living room of my house and there she was the Bandit Woman i killed a few Hours ago sneaking around in my living room
It apears i shouted her with Unrelenting Force but she survived the atack making her follow me al the way back too my whiterun house

These incident did freak me out i can tell

Oh hell yeah! second time I ventured into my basemant and saw one had moved in the corner of my eye this figure, made me jump. I think the first time I saw a Dwemer centurian scared me. Oh and when I realised for the first time what the spiders looked like, even now i have to fight them with my eyes closed they scare the bejeezus out of me.

Scared by sudden motion in Skyrim, no.
Scared by sudden motion in Morrowind, all the time.

It helps that I have my brightness set high on my PS3/TV, so I can see stuff coming now (If I don't, I can't even see humanoid NPCs, making archery/destruction totally useless).

Hearing a destruction spell coming your way seconds before impact, though, makes me jumpy :)

Dwemer ruins make me very uncomfortable to say the least... Those noises, the steam pipes, and the scary Falmer... Are they really blind? They always attack me straight away and are very hard to beat! And yes, the first time a Dwarven Sphere came to live, I almost [censored] my pants. I was dead in a wink.
First time in a falmer cave.. coupled with beeltes and dwemer centurions. I don't know if I was scared, but I was paranoid. I was getting beat down everywhere.

When I first started exploring the Dwmer ruins, I hated them with a passion! Dwarven Spiders and Spheres attacking me from everywhere, and when it wasn't them it was the Chaurus and the Falmer. Finally I started sneaking all the time in those ruins and while it took a lot longer for me explore, it was SO much easier and really took a lot of the creep factor out the Dwmer ruins. They are still not my favorite but I don't loathe them like before.

As for the Falmer yes they are blind, but their hearing is excellent so if you start moving around unmuffled or with a low sneak skill they will zero in on you like a heat seeker and the fight is on! Chaurus are not blind though and can spot you fairly easily, especially early on in the game.

I've been creeped out by the dwemer ruins.

Have to mentally whistle a happy tune in Blackreach. The giant down there really bothers me. WTF is he doing there?

Giants were friendly with the Dwemer. The Giants gave the Dwemer the name Dwarves, because compared to them they were. Dwemer aren't really that much shorter then humans or other Elves :)

Yes, the rune spells, if you stand on one, you can be dead in seconds and the noise is unbelievable. Really makes you jump.

In the light house, that bug creature slaughtered the family. What a horror story...

That's the only thing that really startled me in the game too. That was a mess..

I was startled a few times and dwemer ruins always get my heart pounding. I made a new stealth character and at lvl 15 I went into one of the dwemer ruins. Two spheres kicked my butt so bad, I tucked tail and ran, left the ruin to be explored another day. LOL

Blackreach - I was awed and apprehensive and jumpy the first time I went there. (BTW when you are down there, FUS RO DAH the golden globe hanging from the ceiling)

Oh yea, the light house with the bugs was beyond creepy!

LMAO - someone mentioned the mannequins in Honeyside! OMG I went down there to do some enchanting and someone was hanging from the ceiling. I was like who committed suicide in my house? These mannequins move around a lot hahahaha.

Now, about that cavern in Markarth, with the glowing balls and spindly creature... WHERE is that? I want to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ghosts could have been scary if theyd been more of the marakath house thing in dungeons. come throungh floor/walls ect reasembling skeletons, bumping objects, sudden noices. ect. but nah they didnt want to up set all the 12 year old that now by all the 18 games. can we start having 25 or 30 plus games because this games are no longer mature.
