Headphones hurt my soul

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:57 pm

I found a pair of bright red Skullcandy headphones the other day when looking for a pair so I could hook them up to my PC monitor, since I have no speakers. Playin ps3 on it. Great brand.

Get Sennheiser.

Yep. I traded up a few months back from the Skullcandy Hesh (last years model) to the Sennheiser PC-350 and was rather pleased by the improvement. Of course they cost nearly 3 times as much as the Skullcandy did but well worth the investment if you spend as much time with them on as I usually do. The "Dr. Dre Beats" are, in my opinion, entirely overrated. I was able to "demo" a set of beats for a day, thanks to a neighbor friend, and they were no better sounding than the Sennheisers. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and price.

These are expensive but they are so damn nice...

You don't hear a thing from the outside. It actually makes it feel/sound like the music/sound is coming from inside your body. Its crazy, my cousin got a pair with his financial aid. He regrets spending that much on headphones now because he barely uses them.

:lmao:

I hardly see how buying a pair of headphones is justifiable with financial aid. I've only ever used mine for school related items. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?&app=forums&module=extras§ion=legends#

It's so he doesn't disturb anybody else with his ultra-loud porm watching. I'd pay to get someone headphones for that too.

Okay but still. Spending that much on headphones is a bit... much. Especially if it was from a grant... other people could actually use that money for educational purposes. If it was a loan well, have fun paying the interest.

He should've bought something less expensive, then. Or at least better quality headphones for that kind of cash. He could have easily gotten by with $25 Skullcandy headphones. :P

Which break after a day of use. It is his grant money, he can do what he wants with it. It was what was left over after paying for his classes and buying a 3000 dollar car, which he really needed. Besides he was already set on rent and food so why the hell not have some fun with the rest of the money he had? Like I said he now regrets buying them because he barely uses them anymore.

You guys don't get just how nice these headphones are, they aren't your average headphones, they feel like they are worth 350 dollars, which I know most of that price is just for the Dre name.

I know people who have gone through four in that amount of time.

Have you actually tried them on? Or tried them in the store? They're incredibly flimsy, cheap plastic, and an utter embarrassment for the price. The Pro are of a metal construction, but like I said before they're heavy.

I wonder what headphones you have tried if you think they feel like $300. Even my Grado felt like they were worth more, and I'm always willing to bash Grado's construction quality.

Again, my dad has some Beats headphones, so I know exactly what they sound like and what their construction quality is like. :P I would never trade my Sennheiser headphones for just about anything.

And yeah, it is his grant money, but the idea is to save that money to spend it on things he really needs, no?

Well my Cousin also happens to be my room mate, I am looking at them right now. He lets me use them when ever I want. So I have done more than "Try them on". I don't see cheap or flimsy plastic. WTF do these people you know do with them? They obviously treat them like crap.

Or get a pair of headphones that don't make you pay for the brand name, which all three of those companies do.

Well, yes, but with the name you are assured a certain level of quality. At least Skull Candy prices aren't inflated in the thousands of percent.

Worth the money too, in my opinion. Not that I payed for them, but my Sister got them two years ago and she is not careful with her things. So I "liberated" them from her and she hasn't screamed at me in a text asking where they are, so so far I'm good!

I think all the people who genuinely like Beats are new to hi-fi audio, it is a massive step up from those horrible leaky earbuds you get with ipods, but then they assume that beats are the best out there.

$500 is nothing in the audio world. People (sadly) spend that much on cables alone.

I spent about $950 on my headphone setup. Too bad I later discovered headphones are EEEEEEEEVVVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL compared to speakers.

Have two relatively speaking cheap headphones, sennheiser 205 and 215,205 is used for tv and dvd′s and the likes,215 is on the pc and with my mp3 player,a tad big but I don′t care as long they sound decent, gets a buckload of comments about their size, mostly from older folks who finds it very entertaining,I just don′t get the fun there, music is much more important than people anyway ;)

$500 is actually not all that bad for audiophile-grade headphones.

Why headphones are evil?

I wear glasses and the headphones press them into my head and it hurts. Plus they mess up my hair (even with my hair cut to 1/2") and get hot after awhile.

Headphones due to their very nature are pretty much incapable of reproducing an accurately natural listening experience for us, due to how human hearing works. There are ways to simulate it better through headphones by "leaking" some sound from one channel to the other, but I don't think there are any commercial headphones that actually do that.

Personally I wouldn't inherently trust any products with an audiophile label on them. The audiophile culture is largely based on myths and superstition rather than actual science.
