My point is that you cannot expect adding random things that arent suppose to exist.. Yes Vampires exist in the Elder Scrolls but their powers and traits have been twisted and remade numerous times. I would agree books are just a misc clutter that doesnt play a role but Movarth proved me wrong on that

To be honest, I'd only just seen the tweet, and your post was a perfect means to drop it in, cause I lol'd quite hard, I do like Vahn. :D

On topic, the fact is Beth can do what they want. If the Volkihar are as secretive as has been suggested then thats the perfect excuse to start dropping stuff in.

Its a tricky balance, making a world detailed enough to be believable, but vague enough so you have some flexibility in preventing it from getting stale. IMO thats why Akavir has never been fully described - once they run out of Tamriel, they have a whole new continent which they can effectively pull out of their backsides. Irritating for lore-heads, but mouth watering for devs and designers. :D

Don't worry, I am a PC gamer. I just find that most PC gamers tend to be really whiney

You must be semi-new. If you've been a PC gamer for awhile, you'd be angry about getting the short end of the stick in nearly everything: Console ports, no SDKs or modkits for any games, console graphics, no keymapping support, etc. It's like PC gamers are always an afterthought on everything, now.

On topic:

This DLC looks like a complete butchery of any standing lore. It's really quite disappointing. I hope some of it gets reworked, some of it gets cut, and whatever doesn't gets explained and incorperated in a believable way. I love TES; it's my favorite series. I love it mainly for the lore and immersion it provides - I hope this isn't completely butchered by the upcoming DLC.

Er. Have you ever heard of the Playstation 3? If anyone got the short end of the stick, its them. I'd hardly call the CK and all the mods that spout from it the 'short end of the stick'

There is hardly much standing lore on vampires to begin with, other than there are a ton of bloodlines, and myths and creations that may or may not be all that true.

Citing one example (that isn't really much of a point, but I'll pretend like it is for this statement alone) doesn't really mean anything for the generality of things. I was speaking in general terms. However, I'll still address your point (but only once so I don't steer this off-topic):

Why should we have to rely on other people to fix our games, when Bethesda could've done that? On release, we had Console Textures, no CK, a terrible UI, and overall, a horrible, semi-optimized console port. It was an atrocity and nothing about it was special to PC users at all. So, someone made a better UI (SkyUI), people started retexturing things, people started fixing PC-exclusive annoyances, etc. And then, you console gamers have the nerve to be jealous of us fixing our own problems that shouldn't exist in the first place?

And, then, of course, 3-4 months later, we get a CK and high-res textures. About damn time.

None of it was quite as cliche as this DLC is setting itself up to be. That is my main concern - TES used to incorperate originality into their Tolkein rips. Now it appears they're just incorperating bland Vampire vs Vampire Hunter content, on a massive scale. While I admit that this doesn't particularly completely destroy lore in every way, it's such a disappointment coming from the studio that used to be so amazing at lore and innovative story-telling.

Hi there MetalGod!

Exactly, in the grand scheme of things, TES is cliched fantasy (which isn't a bad thing if you're like me) I don't see why people would get defensive about vampires. Maybe Twilight just put a negitive stigma on vamps and werewolves. We need some badass Nosferatu (spelling?) remake to balance everything out.

These are relevant to the discussion:

Cliché

noun
1.
a trite, stereotyped
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse, as sadder but wiser, or strong as an ox.
2.
(in

3.
anything that has become trite or commonplace through overuse.

Archetype
noun
1.
the original pattern or
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/model from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/which all things of the same kind are copied or on which they are based; a model or first form; prototype.
2.
(in Jungian psychology) a collectively inherited unconscious idea, pattern of thought,

The fight between good and evil will never be a stale cliché. It is an archetype which lives in our minds and is imprinted in our brains. Certain depictions of such fight have become clichés. Why have romantic sunsets on the beach lost their filmographic appeal? Because they have been overused, shot to exhaustion. They are now a cliché and thus have lost any expressive power. Romance is not and will never be a cliché. An orange sun as a backdrop to a beach walking enamoured couple, however, smells like funky feet.

LOL jealousy? Come on, what on earth did I say in my post to imply I was jealous of PC players getting the CK? Its a fantastic thing to have to be sure, but I made an informed decision over my gaming platform of choice when I got my xbox, I knew what I was passing up.

My point is the long-suffering overtones to your comment, when, really, you are better off than any other platform in the long run. Even in the relative short term.

I like how you guys think that your interpretation of the lore is Fact. The books written in elder scrolls are primarily written by a person from their perspective and what they know about it. Its the same as scientist documenting behavior on the great white shark, they dont know everything about them but they document what they see. Just because Vampire Lords was not documented doesn't mean they dont exist. Imagine Elder Scrolls as the medieval times where people barely knew much about the world they live in.

I'm talking about the bugs that existed not beause of Skyrim the game, but short-sighted exclusions originally made by Bethesda upon the release of Skyrim. Keybinding was very buggy, and a mess, the UI wasn't even functional without reverting to the use of the arrow keys (it was cheaply ported from the PS3/Xbox versions and then hacked together to barely, barely, BARELY function with a mouse), and we were for no discernable reason at all stuck with horrible resolution textures that our machines could destroy 10 times over 4 years ago. To be jealous of us replacing that barely-hacked-together mess with something more fitting for the platform would be like me being jealous that your controller works. I'm not talking about bugs, or numerous other mods that add content; I'm simply addressing the extreme measures we had to undergo to make the game simply playable.

I like how you guys think that your interpretation of the lore is Fact. The books written in elder scrolls are primarily written by a person from their perspective and what they know about it. The thing is, that excuse has been used time and time again as Bethesda piece together and change their lore. That's not the problem - the problem is when they make stereotypical VAMPIRE VS VAMPIRE HUNTERZ content. It looks like - given the current information available - a complete butchery of all lore Bethesda have worked hard on and set up in general. I hope that this is not the case, and that there are some damn good explanations for all of this.

i believe some released/leaked information said the vampires fortress had volhikar in the name or something.

Which I'm taking to mean that this is where the Volkihar strain originated from, and is now occupied by a different strain of vampires because the original Volkihar fled to the frozen parts of Skyrim after they were discovered.

Maybe I'm lying to myself, but I sincerely hope that's the case.

because they have no lore to support them what-so-ever, if beth actually gets a well thought out story line that actually explains it without any stupid copouts (deadra did it, we've been here the entire time [even though a billion and one people would have known about it and at least a handful of groups would have easily destoryed us], ect) then i will stop calling them fakevampires
edit:
i believe some released/leaked information said the vampires fortress had volhikar in the name or something.

:cold: bethesda has to go and ruin volkihar with things from other vamprie stories instead of sticking with something 100 times more interesting and original (fakevampire that cant even fly and are painfully close to victor? or a beast that can reach though ice to freeze you with nothing but its breath?). by all that is holy i hope that it is a misinterpretation and the volkihar are actually the beasts of legend rather than over grown imps

Lore is my favorite aspect of the Elder Scrolls series, and at this point that and mods are probably the only things keeping me here. So, needless to say, if the lore gets butchered, I won't be happy. :[

I think the vast majority of us agree that dawnguard looks cool and "epic" for the most part. Some might think that some of it is aiming to be a little to much "epic" (undead purple flaming horse) but it's still cool for the most part.
Some of us care for the story though . A few might even know the lore and see problems with what has already established. Because Most people can see this as just a taking of ideas from Monster movies and throwing them into skyrim. Even things that should/could already be in the game (crossbows, Gargoyles, ugly vampires) seem to be added just because of how they are in these monster movies .

I agree with the ethereal purple steed of doom-thing... I don't like it. But don't act like you're the only one who cares about the story, 'cause
you are not. Believe you fudging me. Yes, it seems like that Bethesda is adding alot of classic horror elements to the game with this new
DLC. I love it. It's the first time they've actually gone for something genuinely scary. It's an homage to the ol' victorian horror elements, something
which I personally love. You might not, but we all have our own opinions.

Also note that i am not [censored]ing about how castles appear from nowhere. Skyrim isn't to scale so New additions to land don't make anything worse. (Also-solthstiem Could have been to scale whilst Morrowind's vardenfell certaintly isn;t. That means that on a map of tamriel solthstiem would be tiny.

For one thing- The dawnguard. Yes it could be an ancient secret order that nobody writes about.. But many of us tire of that bull . Logically it should be a branch/descendant/Nickname for an already existing Anti-dead/daedra order such as Vigilants of stendar, order of arkay, Virtuous blood or at least people who worship meridia or azura. Perhaps someone formed the group very recently- But ancient orders that we've never heard of can [censored] off.

Do you have ANY idea of how vast the TES-lore is? It's almost as comprehensive and mindblowing as the LOTR or SW-sagas. It is way too much
to ask of the dev-team to plan everything ahead of time, so I think you should just stop flapping your jaw and be thankful for this new DLC, AND the
new lore that comes with it. The Dawnguard seem to be dedicated to wiping out this particular order or branch of vampires, and not the Daedra, werewolves or "regular vampires", hence their name - the Dawnguard are dedicated to stopping them from blotting out the sun. New lore is added all the time, and I'm sure you'll get an explanation as to where they came from. It's not a very constructive way of viewing things - I think that Beth is
allowed some liberties, anachronistic as they may be.

As for vampires
Firstly- An explanation as to why a few members of the Volkihar (In books- Ugly Vampires who Live under the ice in frozen lakes. ) are good looking and live in a castle. Furthermore it is to be expected that Some of them DO live In/near these lakes. How would they Get prey on an island castle?

Secondly- The vampire lord transformation- Needs an explanation on why most vampires can't use it. An explanation on how it works. Is it illusion, alteration, a transformation spell that you can use without being a vampire?

Thirdly the bats- Tes Vampires aren't associated with bats whatsoever (can't imagine ice vampires being much different). Thus far conjuration has always been of a single daedra or spirit and a few have been able to summon a limited amount of animals. Conjuration is also supposed to be more difficult when in charge of multiple creatures. It could be illusion Magic. Perhaps a single entity of vearmina's plane (nightmare daedra) origin. But just bats are stupid.

Why are everyone so absolutely 100% sure that they are the Volkihar? The Volkihar is already in the game, minor as their part may be. These
new vampires seem must more closely related to the origin of vampires alltogether. Seeing as how they have a Molag Bal altar, and that their leader
is wearing a Molag Bal broche on his armor. These dudes are the minions of the father of all vampires, not some scrawny frost vampires who may or
may not live under the ice of frozen lakes. They can shapeshift, turn into bats and whatnot because that's just what Bethesda thinks they should be
able to do. I'm sure you'll get plenty of explanation when the DLC is released. There is some divine but dark powers at play here.

Would love some mithril, adamantium and werebear surprises. Perhaps a giant crab and dreugh. Those are in the lore! Surely giant crabs are more exciting than... Lots of things!!

I would like the story to be more than the standard ''He's the bad guy, kill him'' plotline, The dawnguard should have a few evil secrets of their own, as I feel it would improve immersion. In Tamriel, there are different varying species of vampires (with their own tribes, of course) and Immortal Blood is only but a small source of information.

idk... I hope Beth explains this... I dont want to expect one thing and get another so Ill be a type of neutral until solid news... We know and confirmed these Volihkar (cant spell), what we dont know is Origin and how they differ from ordinary Vampires. Perhaps they were a created sort made by Molag (we saw his Shrine in the picture and Trailer).. Perhaps Molag wants to take over Nirn. Or maybe these Vampires are a special sort.

A good enough reason for me is; This Harkon has been in secrecy using forbidden magic to keep his safe location secret (vampires are known for Illusion). Maybe he let other Vampires do what they willed because they were weak. He sees something in you. (and of course the Elder Scroll which never leaves your inventory(hmmmm)). Maybe he has the Power to release inner abilities of Vampires hence he has an Army..

as for this faction bent on destroying them idk any possibilities
