Hot Sauce

So, what's the hottest hot sauce/extract you've ever had?

A few days ago I was at somebody's house for dinner, and they had ordered pizza. When it arrived, we all sat down, and one of the owners of the house went into the kitchen to get some hot sauce. He brought back Dave's Gourmet Ghost Pepper (Naga Jolokia). I hadn't heard of it, but I knew I liked really spicy foods, so I put a few (7-8) drops on it. Mein gott. MEIN GOTT. I was told, at the time, that Naga Jolokia was the hottest pepper in the world with a scoville measurement of up to 1,000,000. I learned later it had been dethroned (twice) since 2010, and the current hottest is the Trinidad Maruga Scorpion with a scoville measurement of 2,000,000 (about the same as police grade pepper spray). The current hottest EXTRACT, however, has a scoville measurement of 16,000,000. The thing can be bought at hotsauce.com, but you have to sign a disclaimer, and the bottle has a warning on it. You need to handle one (1!) crystal with tweezers.

For comparison, Jalapeno peppers have a scoville measurement of 2,500-10,000.

So, what are your stories?

Hooters has some sauce you can buy at a store for that Hooter's chicken wing taste---the hot sauce is pretty good to cook with.

Tabasco.

I do not have it as much anymore, but during HS when I got back from track practice I would have some meatloaf my mother made for dinner. Put some Tabasco on it and I was in heaven

Strange thing though: When I got home, I always craved something spicy. I do not know why ,even to this day. Salsa is another thing I like but I don't know if you can count that

Well, Gamegee, we can't all be capable of not causing ourselves intentional pain for the adrenalin high it gives us, now can we?

The sauce for the Wing Street Wings that Pizza Hut uses near me is pretty tasty, mild flavoring. I'm not super big into spicy stuff, but when when I make chili i'll pile on the spice with Tobasco Sauce, chili powder (probably low grade), and black pepper. Used to use fresh red pepper, but it gave more heat, less flavor, so I stopped using it.

Hottest thing i've tasted is a habanero pepper, and my tongue was pretty numb for close to 1/3rd of my programming class in HS.

Hey, if everyone was able to stop doing stupid things, I wouldn't get to enjoy the little things in life. Like watching stupid people. Everyone is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGlZmIIzWgs.

Jalepenos are for wimps and taste disgusting. Cayenne tastes yummy while having a small kick.

Pure habanero is strong, but it's pretty easy to dilute

Resiniferatoxin probably is already way too hot for all of us. It has a Scoville rating of 16,000,000,000 and is toxic. Also causes chemical burns. Best part about it is the fact that it isn't a pepper at all, but a ...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resiniferatoxin.

I've only had boring hot sauce. I used to eat habanero flavored doritos when I was in 5th grade, though. Stopped being able to handle the stuff after awhile. I did put hot sauce on ice cream once and it was awesome.

I love hot sauce. Unfortunately, at my age it doesn't love me any more.

Jalapenos are, IMO, the best tasting pepper grown anywhere. Not a heat factor, but just a great flavor.

As far as the little pumpkings.. hell, any pepper sauce can be diluted.

Fun Fact: Peppers are spicy because they evolved in a way to make it to where most animals would be kept from eating the peppers due to the capsaicin, the stuff that makes it hot. Birds, however, apparently can't taste it or aren't affected by it (I don't remember why) so they can eat the pepper, crap out the see, and a new pepper plant will grow in a different location. Humans are both too large for the capsaicin in most plants to cause any real harm and too addicted to the adrenalin caused by the hotness to be affected. Or so I read. As usual, trust nothing I say on pain of being accidentally misinformed.

One wonders who decided to start putting spicy things in food. "Hmm, this looks tasty. *munch* AHH! Hothothothothot!! Ahhh! It burns! *pain goes away* MORE!"

Maybe a very depressed person discovered this and noticed they forgot all about their depression and then decided to try some more. It makes some sense since adrenalin rushes do that.

From the gist of what i'm reading, and I can understand since I don't delv into biological responses of the human body, the chemical is super hot as it activates the pain receptors. It looks like the chemical is being studied by the National Institute of Health (NIH) as a pain reliever. This backs up the information that I read quite some time ago about a company taking habanero peppers and turning them into foot cream since it causes a numbing sensation. Sounds like Resiniferatoxin is a synthesis of a more potent form of the stuff that grows in peppers, since it's rated at 16mil on the Scoville scale.

Think bear repelent is on the order of 4 to 6mill, so this stuff is quite nasty.

When sauces get ridiculously hot, they often suffer from not having good flavor. Yeah, you can make something that is ungodly painful, but what's the point other than bragging rights if it doesn't taste good?
