So How is Dawnguard Going To Be Updated?

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:59 pm

I heard they have to pay 40k dollars per patch to Microsoft, so I doubt it will be ready anytime soon (if ever) They will want to collect more bug data before trying to fix anything.

40k isn't too much considering how many people got the dlc. I mean, lets say out of the 1 million+ skyrim players (probably more), only 50k got the dlc. Thats still $1 million for bethesda. So if you think about it that way, 40k isn't too much.

We might agree but I'm sure Beth's shareholders don't.

There still remains the question of whether DLC can be patched or not. I've seen conflicting statements about it.

I heard somewhere that they are going to integrate the DLC into the original Skyrim.esm. If so, they will definitely be able to patch it.

Hopeful news. Fingers crossed.

Bethesda, nor Zenimax who owns them do not have shareholders. It's a privately owned company :whisper:

That's why they aren't so evil as other big name publishers :hehe:

As a beta tester, I'm really quite curious if I was actually reporting bugs for a reason, or if Dawnguard will NEVER be updated. Anybody actually know?

You were not a real beta tester, since even Bethesda's paid in house ones don't seem to be able to get the game fixed.

Do you really think that being in the beta, something like a month or so before release, is going to make changes that go
into the game?

Betas like that are called "We are trying to sell the game, by giving people a peek at it" "betas." They are not "real" betas.

The only purpose of that "beta" was to get more lip service about the game, getting more xbox 360 downloads and 1600
microsoft points spent on release day.

That was also the only real purpose of patch 1.6, which finally made the unplayable original game (on the xbox 360 )
playable again for a huge number of us who had played from between 260 and 400 hours plus; Its rather difficult
to sell a 1600 microsoft point DLC to players who can't play the original game at all, after all. I was finally able to play
again after 1.6, getting to level 81 finally and then being able to play all the way through dawnguard as a dawnguard side person.
I consider myself lucky, actually, being a lot more familiar with bethesda's "bugginess" after this game.

*sigh*
If you read my question and gave thought to it, that's why I'm asking if they'll make any changes. Considering the fact that I signed up expecting to actually do something other than get free DLC, it's perfectly acceptable to expect some sort of a patch when they labeled it as a "beta". We all know this was a publicity stunt. However, being a publicity stunt does not exclude the possibility of the data we gave them from being used.

TLDR: Even the forum's brain-dead monkeys get that this was to further publicize Dawnguard. That doesn't mean that changes won't go through.

The beta was just a crappy attention stunt from Microsoft to go along with their exclusivity. They didn't realy fix too many of the problems from the beta apparently. I mean all the people that bought the content on day 1 could find more bugs in 1 day than the beta testers could have in 2 weeks. The number of people make the difference.

The beta version and the retail version are exactly the same.

That's definitely true, but I'm still holding out some hope that they'll fix some bugs. As far as them fixing bugs in the newest release, I don't think they've fixed any. I'm pretty sure we all got the "beta". Ironic, when you think about it.

If they don't fix any of the bugs I'm sure they'll lose customers for the PS3 version and any further DLCs released on consoles...

That's why we're wondering if it'll be fixed. One would think that if a company flaunted the term "beta", that they would use it for...beta-ey purposes. Maybe just a little bit. If they never mentioned a beta, people would have just given up on getting a patch.

Didn't they say "If the beta goes well" they'd release on the 26th? And they did, which suggests they decided the beta's bugs weren't enough to stop release. It would have been delayed had they decided to fix bugs. I have no idea why they thought it was okay, maybe they thought people would be angry if it wasn't released on the 26th like they said so they decided there were no showstoppers therefore release? :S

That's what they did with the base game. And New Vegas.

Bethesda doesn't have an in-house QA team.. They bugtest everything themselves, and Bethesda is approximately a 100 person studio... Which explains a lot of things in regards to bug counts.

Why don't they have a QA team? I'm mean it's like they're doing bad money wise. From my understanding they're doing quite well.
