So How is Dawnguard Going To Be Updated?

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 6:35 pm

As a beta tester, I'm really quite curious if I was actually reporting bugs for a reason, or if Dawnguard will NEVER be updated. Anybody actually know?

I imagine Bethesda is finishing the final touches on the Patch and will release it as soon as they decide it's ready. It would make sense if they held off a bit just in case us regular joes found anything to add.

But from what I've heard, it's "impossible" to make any traditional updates for DLC packs due to missing references and such. Maybe it will be downloadable from the marketplace? If that's the case, it would be interesting if they actually add some more content to the dlc. Most companies wouldn't, but Bethesda has surprised me before.

I could see that happening. Load Skyrim and get a message during the part where it's looking for DLC " The Downloadable Content is outdated. Would you like to update it to the most recent version? (A) Yes. (B.) No. "

That would be a rather nice way of doing it, actually.

If they do this they need to add upgrade castle and that that counts for the webs in dawnguard fort...god the webs.

And the blood spatter in Castle Volkihar. Dear lord, these vampires are the equivalent of that fat guy from FEAR that sits around eating cheesy poos all day. I mean, clean up your dinner, seriously...

Also, the castle is just in general disrepair.

All I want fixed in Dawnguard, really, is that Vampire Lord is butchered when Serana is with you. I've accepted that she can't be married, and decided that we basically already are. And the Castle is rather nice as it is, for me anyway. They could afford to spruce the Garden up a bit though... Was kinda hoping that would turn into something beautiful.

Yeah so much for that stuff saying centuries made that garden amazing but would atleast want one mannequin in my vampire castle.

Never happened.

The only way to update DLC is to completely replace it. Which means deleting the DLC data and downloading the new version. This will only happen if the DLC is completely unplayable. This happened twice with fallout 3 DLC.

That patch was released before the shivering isles. DLC can't be patched on the consoles they went over this when FO3 was releasing DLC.

I'm sure they'll figure something,although I don't mind redownloading it.

Would it be possible if they released it as another, separate, DLC pack? I think that might've been done with Burnout Paradise...

Patches for Fallout 3 DLC 0
Patches for Fallout NV DLC 0
Unless Dawnguard is installed fundementally differently then past DLC on the console it can't be patched.

No, DLC doesn't interact with one another very well due to load order issues. But I believe the current Dawnguard available for download isn't the same one betatesters used. If DLC could be patched they'd probably have done it during the beta test.

If they can release one version of the DLC as a beta, then supposedly fix problems and then release another version later I'm sure they could fix some more bugs than release an updated DLC to redownload.

Screw bugs, WE WANT TO MARRY SERANA.

Seriously though, fixing bugs takes ALLOT of time. Even fairly simple ones.

Hopefully they include the ability to smith Silver Bolts for your crossbows (as well as the ability to craft/improve silver weapons). Seems to be an odd oversight considering the fact silver is great against vampires, and there's a faction of vampire hunters you can join armed with crossbows. Why wouldn't they make bolts out of the material most suited for hurting vampires?

Its only done when the DLC is litterally unplayable, beta teating is a completely different realm. If the could/would do it then why hasn't it been done for past DLC?

I'd rather assume that they'll make this right than sit around and pout because they can't/won't fix it though.
So I'll stay optimistic and hope that my $20 investment means more than just another drop in the bucket.

They've been doing great so far, keeping the game in check and adding new stuff, I have no reason to feel abandoned just yet.

Whose pouting? I'm being realistic based on past experience. I have accepted reality, I will not put up false hope it will be different this time. None of my Bethesda DLC has been patched before so I have no reason to believe it will be different this time.

I didn't say you were pouting, I said that I'd rather stay positive until I'm given reason to be forsake all hope.
I don't think they'll plop out a steaming pile of DLC and then just leave it there for use to deal with.
I suppose I'm not very pessimistic though, I hope things will be fixed and will continue to do so.
