How did you come to join this community?

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2016 10:18 pm

This is hands down my favourite online community... ever, really. I'm always glad that I've come across this site and its members, from the first day I found this site up until now. As for how I found it, it was about three/four years ago, and I was wandering if there were any TES novels. So I googled it, and found the forums. I asked the question, but I remember the first reply being rather negative. It was then really nice to see then an outpouring of people who defended my noobish questions and made me feel welcome. So welcome in fact that I've stayed for approximately 1/8th of my life :P

Morrowind shipped with a nasty bug that could occasionally corrupt saves for a few unlucky players. I was one of those players whose saves (and a 100-hour character) were trashed. I joined to report the issue.

Turned up to moan about some hardware or config problem I was having when I started playing Oblivion and forgot to go away again. It took me a bit longer to venture into CD because "they're all weird in there".

I believe I was stuck at some part in one of the TES games. I don't think it was related to a bug or glitch, but it was some sort of issue. Or maybe not, I don't remember exactly how. But when I discovered these forums, I found some very interesting discussions but did not join the forums to participate in said discussions. Finally, I created an account after lurking as a guest for a month or so. I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in these forums.

After lurking/stalking for some time reading developer posts about the Morrowind development, I eventually joined the forums to ask a technical question about the game https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_Adventures:_Redguard in the Past Games forum. I never got any answer :P

I didn't start posting here until about two years ago. Heck, they didn't even have a Community Discussion forum when I joined. It took me twelve years to discover that they had added one.

I had an idea for a future Elder Scrolls game and submitted it to Bethesda who in turn gave me a link here.

Once I started modding Morrowind, I needed a place to share it and get help with scripting.

Oh, wow. *tries to remember that far back* :P

Well, I had played and enjoyed Morrowind, and from the menu there is an 'ElderScrolls.com' link that I followed to the old website. From the website I found that there were forums, and I'll admit that at that time I was completely and totally unfamiliar with internet forums/message boards, but still I looked around and figured out the basic gist.

After a few days of lurking I joined up to ask a few questions (about MW as it was the most recent release at the time, not about that Dwemer cube though), then hung around to answer questions that others asked.... then spent the next thirteen years here. :ahhh:

We can go all Four Yorkshiremen with this: "they didn't even have electricity when I joined!" :hehe: It took me quite a while to notice it was there too; I spent my first few months loitering in Oblivion General.

Although I'm a relative newcomer compared to many folks, next month will be 10 years since I originally staggered in here moaning about stuff. How did that happen?

I had bought Morrowind goty for pc, after first playing 3 yrs on the original XBox. Heard about the great modding community on pc, so I googled "Morrowind Mods" and was led here. Though I came for the mods, I stayed for the company. I've met a lot of good and helpful people here over the years.

I joined because of the stuff I read about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim when it was announced made me sad that Bethesda Game Studios added features and removed features. So I decided to join to criticize.

Then after I joined I started liking this community and these forums more and more. I'm very sad www.gamesas.com will close forever. No matter how much you tell them to keep it open they just will not listen :(.

Anyways that's my story.

I was searching up information on Dawnguard in regards to vampire attacks and I stumbled across the Skyrim General Discussion. Found my answer, but also came across a number of civil war threads since it was a hot topic during the time. I decided I want to share my own opinion on the matter so I joined the forums and posted. Only a few minutes later someone replied welcoming me and gave me a fishy stick. I even remember the user, Klawed Flaw. Made me feel quite welcomed so I visited often, and here I aaaaaaaaaaaaaam.

Fell so in love with Oblivion I wanted to be surrounded by other fans. Joined the forums in 2006 under the name Captain Patterson (I forgot the password :( ) been around for ten years. Pretty wild when you think about it.

I was a lurker before Morrowind came out, joined in 2001(late) but never made a post until a post about the Dwemer puzzle Box. I remember(vaguely) all the speculation threads about Morrowind, and I also remember the vastly different color scheme the forum had going on back then(it was positively hideous). Anyways, the reason I came was to read speculation about Morrowind and to read stuff about Daggerfall ^^

I signed up in search of a cure for the Oblivion Abomb and if it hadn′t been for that I would never have come to this place.

So thank you Bethesda, for shipping Oblivion with that flaw! :tops:

Thank you not for other things, though...

Another one after getting the A-Bomb on oblivion on my PS3, then lurked for a long time in the build up to Skyrims release.

Like others, I searched for the forum for TES. I was late in coming though, waiting until I had a question about Skyrim. I have been to many game specific forums and the company run ones usually get a bit more traffic. Add in Bethesda's other games and this one is pretty hopping :)

I echo Anglo's sentiment that this community is one of the best I have found. It has been (soon to be past tense) a pleasure sharing posts with almost everyone here :)
