If you play as a Nord, Galmor calls you a foreigner and ask why you want to join the Stormcloaks.

That makes no sense at all.

Lore seems to be completely off in this game.

That's actually a bug. I went through the sound files and saw that there was other dialogue recorded if you're a Nord.

The voice acting is the issue. It's not just file size, it's the extra lines you need to get out of the voice actors and the extra money you need to pay them. Everybody nowadays wants voice acting in games. It's become a standard part of games. But this is one of the tradeoffs -- less depth in dialogue, which is especially noticeable in a huge sandbox game like TES.

I personally would have gladly traded the out of place compliments on my skill levels (no I don't favor the bow. I have 100 in one handed and 60 in bow) or cut the pointless bits of dragon speak from Paarthunax's dialogs for a few short race based lines of dialog for guards and traders.

You're always a foreigner in the province. Or at least Daggerfall/Morrowind/Skyrim. Unless you RP otherwise.

This is true. My favourite race has always been the Khajiit, and I'm quite disappointed that the only thing that seems to happen as a consequence of me being one is that bandits always say I'll make a good rug.

Sad that the caravans don't acknowledge you at all as a brother. Or that the cities don't discriminate against you. That would have given me more incentive to care/hate some npc's.

Well, thats going to happen to keep the Game File size down obviously.
If they had to create new Text/Audio for every race/gender combination, thats going to exponentially explode the install size.

And I don't think M$ is going having Skyrim on 4 DVDs, Ps3 with 1 BD, and steam useres having to DL a 50GB game. :wink:

The more generic a dialogue, the smaller the game size, and the less voice acting actually required.

But that doesn't mean I don't wish they had more 'race' and 'gender' orientated dialogue!

Oh, that and if you couldn't ente rthe city cause you were a khajit, that would really mess with the MQ. :wink:

Yes but it probably would have been more pleasing if they'd sacrificed the skills based guard dialogue for more dailogue based on race. Obviously Khajit characters must be able to enter cities or the game would be unplayable, but having a guard line like "who let you in here?" would have helped immersion. There are little bits of race based dialoguie (I found that out with my dark elf) but they seem to have misdirected their efforts. It doesn't take a huge amount of dialogue to reference your race at certain points, even if they can't do it comprehensively for all situations.

Don't know if it counts, but I did run into a situation where two NPC's I was dealing with called my Khajit "the cat".

Argonians don't fare much better, I get called "lizard" occasionally and some times other Argonians call me "egg sister" or "marsh friend" but mostly my race is ignored

If I were to play a Khajiit, my role model would be M'aiq.

Maybe there's some ideas on this thread for new animations when the construction kit comes out. I hope modders are reading.
