How do you roleplay a Khajiit?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 3:53 pm

I mean, they can wear fur armor.

The player's Khajiit is let into cities and no one says a thing about it.

You aren't treated differently.

Ysolda talks and treats you as if you aren't a Khajiit and don't know who they are.

Other Khajiit don't even acknowledge you as being a Khajiit.

Whenever I need to go into Windhelm I wear a hood and sneak to avoid the guards as best I can, I always carry moon-sugar, and never wear full face helmets, other than that there's not much else I can do everyone treats me exactly the same as any other person.

This is true. My favourite race has always been the Khajiit, and I'm quite disappointed that the only thing that seems to happen as a consequence of me being one is that bandits always say I'll make a good rug.

Sad that the caravans don't acknowledge you at all as a brother. Or that the cities don't discriminate against you. That would have given me more incentive to care/hate some npc's.

I don't play khajiit but sounds crappy that the caravans don't you treat you differently. At least the orcs gain free access to strongholds and stuff.

If you play as a Nord, Galmor calls you a foreigner and ask why you want to join the Stormcloaks.

That makes no sense at all.

Lore seems to be completely off in this game.

This was one thing that disappointed me. Not just with my Khajiit, but my other characters too.

I wish they'd have put in some dialogue and reactions for various, races. The NPC's can already react to your chosen skills and make comments on them. So the opportunity is there. It could have deepened the interaction between khajiiti characters and the caravans. Heck, people don't even treat me any differently as a Thane, or resident of a city.

In Oblivion you heard "Oh it is you! The Hero of Kvatch....what a honor" and that all the time. Well the treatment was already weird in Oblivion. The Argonian is telling me a Khajiit joke and what was my Race? Khajiit.... I think it is a bit nicer in Skyrim now, since the Bandits recognize your race.

And seeing as how Bethesda 'remembered' to include the Khajiit and Argonian homelands in the backstory for Skyrim (namely the moons disappearing and the insurrection in Black Marsh), it's not like the races have had no attention paid to them. Granted they're minor inclusions, but still. So it seems even more out of place to me that they would NOT include deeper interactions with NPC's when you play as a beast race. Grr...

But my intuition when RP'ing my cat is to be more of a wilderness kitty. (In best Khajiit voice): Aziz prefers the climb of an unpredictable mountain than the folly city-folk.

Do you ever try to get the taste of Khajiit cooking out of your mouth?

Gotta use Argonian blood to wash out the taste of khajiit flesh.

I have a Two Moons Dance Khajiit Goutfang Instructor. I'll post pics if you want to see his badassery. Basically works like a H2H martial artist, that uses dual katanas when it hits the fan. Very fun RP.

Well, thats going to happen to keep the Game File size down obviously.
If they had to create new Text/Audio for every race/gender combination, thats going to exponentially explode the install size.

And I don't think M$ is going having Skyrim on 4 DVDs, Ps3 with 1 BD, and steam useres having to DL a 50GB game.

The more generic a dialogue, the smaller the game size, and the less voice acting actually required.

But that doesn't mean I don't wish they had more 'race' and 'gender' orientated dialogue!

Oh, that and if you couldn't ente rthe city cause you were a khajit, that would really mess with the MQ. ;)

And despite all that you're not yet stealing everything that isn't nailed down? Quick, before they catch on! :P

The text volume is meaningless. Text occupies very little memory.

The voice acting is the issue. It's not just file size, it's the extra lines you need to get out of the voice actors and the extra money you need to pay them. Everybody nowadays wants voice acting in games. It's become a standard part of games. But this is one of the tradeoffs -- less depth in dialogue, which is especially noticeable in a huge sandbox game like TES.

In Morrowind, you could have a huge variety of dialogue options that could acknowledge just about any attribute/accomplishment of the player, and modmakers could easily add more. Those days, they are a gone.

There could be a quest where you prove yourself to the city that you want to enter.

I just want to know who is responsible for performing anol gland expression. I don't see any vets in Skyrim.

On second thought...I don't think I want an answer to that question. :bonk:

As a Nord, I got some interesting comments from the Forsworn when I wound up in Chidnha Mine. And there is a guy in the College who says he is glad there is another Nord there. Other than that, no there is pretty much nothing. Side comments are nice, but I would really like some snide remarks because of my race. I want to be spit on for being a Mer, Beast Folk or Imperial.

Edit: And nobody should be saying that different dialogue options for your gender or race couldn't have been included because it would take too much room, there is guard dialogue for just about every dungeon telling you to not go there. I have yet to go to any dungeon because of that dialogue. I actually run away when they start talking about it because I don't want it added to my map.

Plenty of npcs in Skyrim notice that my character is a Nord, even the non-Nords. It's unfortunate that they don't seem to notice a Khajit.

My Imperial character in Oblivion was often referred to as "Imperial brother" by the guards as well as Hero of Kvatch. That was a nice touch.

...btw, one npc called my Nord, "Skyrim trash". I'm not sure if that was due to my character's race or anyone in Skyrim.
