Initial Technical Details

I agree with your sentiments Ssenkrad, this does make it harder on us a bit. But I have faith in Ianpatt, his "Hello World" insertion into the binary is a Big victory for a small amount of text. It may force him to handle NVSE in a different manner than he handled Fo3 and Oblivion, but it will hopefully all be possible. :)

I suspect one of the big reasons for encrypting the binary is that it contains Steam site information (IP addresses, login credentials) that it needs when connecting to Steam. Thats stuff they could Only protect from us by encrypting the binary, so it may be more a concession to Steam to protect their site information than it is a desire to hide the binary.

I don't know this for certain, but it seems a likely Business reason for changing strategies from Fo3 to FNV.

No, all the login stuff is handled by the Steam client, the game can't run without it.

As for the piracy, it was out what, 3-4 days before launch, cracked and working?

Still two days to go for me, hopefully at least I'll get a quickfix patch as a reward? :D

They seem to have removed the fDlgFocus value from the INI file. This controlled how far you zoomed into someone's face when talking to them. I usually set this value to 16.0 so there was no zoom in. I went ahead and added an entry to my INI, in the [Interface] section (just like in the previous games), but it had no effect. There may be no way to avoid the zoom in now.

I didn't know that was possible. Also tried to set that value in the prefs.ini?
Just give a try, but don't have too much hope. I still cant play it, since me lives in europe :(

Forget everything I just said and have a look here:

The steam version constantly overwrites the customised Fallout.ini. You need to switch that off

Wow. This is ridiculous. I have to fix multithreading through the .ini for my system to work smoothly.

I was wondering why it got switched back every time I adjusted it.

Apologies if this question has been asked (and answered) in the past, but what are the differences between Fallout 3's GECK and New Vegas' ?

I had many bugs doing landscapes with Geck, it's possible, but needs to try many times.

I hope that the GeckNV is more safe with that : the main lack of Fallout New Vegas seems to be interesting and worth seing places...

How about a quote from one of the developers:

Thanks but I was looking for more specific changes, like changes to particular in-editor tools and functionality.

The only issue with what he said is you cant (at least I cant) open both gecks at once. I have the Fo3 one open, try to open NVgeck and it doesnt do a thing, detecting the fo3 one is already open. :(
