Just reached 850 saves

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 8:57 pm

I have an autosaver mod that saves every five minutes or so. Every now and again I have to have a save deletathon because at around 10 MB each, those saves add up. Plus, the whole save/load menu gets sluggish when I have too many saves.

Doesn't it take a lot of room in your HDD?
Anyway, I use Quicksave and Autosave, and rarely use normal saves (I've got maybe 5 regular save). My finger goes automatically to the F5 key twice in a minute in average.

you are not paranoid... but I have insane ocd... my save count is around 2300 and thats cause I save every time I enter or exit a dungeon, qiuck travel, have a conversation, buy something, or kill a group of enemies... i cant stand replaying content (And yes autosave is enabled... i dont trust automatically saved games) Im lv81 on two glitched characters and lv55, lv46, lv32, & lv16 on my other characters Im on master difficulty exept for my lv 16 who is on expert untill he gets beefy (argonian spellsword/thief)
BTW im on save number 4356 of Fallout NV

I just hit 1000 saves earlier. My previous experiences with Fallout and TES games has made me paranoid and I feel every second my game will just die :L I also have 3 save files on each character and I alternate saving over each one so I have back-ups if I need them.

I'm not losing 100+ hours of gameplay like I have on previous games.

Saving often is a good thing. Never deleting those saves is a bit... off.

I keep about 10 saves per character, maybe 5 recent and a few old ones just in case I ever want to go back. Sometimes I'll get up to maybe 50 saves on the current character before I do cleanup. Are you guys saying that you've saved that many times, or that you're keeping all of those around?

Is that quicksaving? or actual saving?? or both all up? ...That's extreme!

Crikey. I have a half dozen save files I rotate through, and I've manually saved around 250 times across something like 75 hours. I thought I was abusing the save-anytime feature.

I'm really surprised at how many people save so frequently, and across so many files. I guess I'm not as neurotic as I thought.

Hehe I am glad that I am not the only one who saves a lot of times.

I also have lots of save files in case I need to go back and I also save before I speak to some NPCs so every so often I can reload and listen to them again ^^

My partner is not like this and he always moans if something happens and he has not saved the game for a long time. No matter how many times I have told him to save his game often, he still does not.

Normal saving, autosaving is annoying.

I can definitely see why someone would have that many saves. I'm up to 480 i think. If you've ever played a bethesda game then you have learned to not only save frequently but also make new saves everytime eg. don't over right saves. In both Oblivion and Fallout 3 I lost several hours (20+ hours) of game play because either my save games were corrupted or my character got svck in a glitched zone I couldn't get out of. I know when it happened to me on Fallout 3 I quit playing it for several months. Won't let that happen again.

I learnt in Oblivion to save often or regret it. Guess I carried this through into Skyrim. Although I don't make seperate saves, except for different characters. I just overwrite a lot.

I think it's called Mass Effect syndrome...you don't save every 3 seconds in Mass effect you are screwed over a lot. So thats what i call people that save very often. They have Mass effect syndrome XD

i'm affected of that syndrome xD lol

Due to Bethesda being Bethesda i save my game every ten minutes in a different slot, One of my lot of saves is up to 1500 & i never use autosave, Never save a game outside or in a fight, Always in a player home or empty indoor location.

Like everyone who has played Bethesda games, You learn a hard & fast lesson if you do not take care of your save game habits & we all wear the scars.

I think some people think that the OP is talking about 850 separate saves...he means 850 times that he saved in all the time he has played. He probably has like only 20 actually separate saves. That really is not all that bad tbh.

Don't know what he means, but I understood it to mean separate saves, because that's what my 8447 saves are. I clean out my saved game folder every day or so, otherwise it would be too large.

I forgot to mention, those are not quick saves - never used that or quick load. Those are new, individual saves I make every time, with a new number.

I always put myself in a situation where I can save a game without problems that a quick save (at the wrong moment) could cause.

Total space is 179MB for 20 saves lol.

2390 on hard drive in 68 slots across numerous starts and restarts. 167 hours on the longest serious continual run. I hated how the auto save overwrote old saves which I wanted kept so I always immediately disable auto save on all situations with a box in the options and set the timed one to never. In contrast, I save manually (never used quicksave) like a religion. I save whenever: about to try something risky/illegal, before engaging any enemies, after every successful battle, after advancement in any quest, after fast travel (in some cases just prior too), upon discovering new locations, after major changes in status (became Listener), before any scripted events I know are coming, after selling off junk, when I find anything available at a trader I want, after reverting vampirism stage, for the hell of it, etc. You get the picture. Basically, even though I play a given character among the same four to six slots, I assume catastrophic failure is around EVERY corner and have never regretted it.

I have saved about 1200 times but I weed so I only have about 50. I hate doing stuff twice. Its fine for a FPS but Role play should be more immersive. Saving often saves lots of grind

I have well over 3000 saves with 3 characters roughly level 50. I save A LOT more on my stealth characters than my others, because I hate being caught stealing something stupid or killing a guard for no reason.

Am I paranoid, I mean I'm like level 47 and I don't use auto save. Also I tend to save sometimes, and then do something stupid like kill everyone in whiterun, then jump off a cliff and go back to the point where everyones not dead. Anyone do this? I feel like I save too much, but I don't want to rely on auto save.

I did that a lot in oblivion, especially if I just got a really powerful weapon. Anyway, I have 1500 saves, I really wish that there was some way to get that number down because its really starting to get embarassing.
