Just reached 850 saves

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:50 pm

I have well over 3000 saves with 3 characters roughly level 50. I save A LOT more on my stealth characters than my others, because I hate being caught stealing something stupid or killing a guard for no reason.

Yeah in oblivion, I was OCD about the Dark brotherhood and Theives guild, where I would save constantly and restart the save if I was caught. Skryim, not so much, because it feels like some quest make it that you intentionally get caught, and some quest are more like a dungeon crawl than something you actually have to avoid

I have well over a thousand saves, and I've kept all of them. Means I have around 4GB of saves, haha.

I almost have 300.
I usually quick save and use auto save when I'm playing. Then before I exit Skyrim I make a new save.

Am I paranoid, I mean I'm like level 47 and I don't use auto save. Also I tend to save sometimes, and then do something stupid like kill everyone in whiterun, then jump off a cliff and go back to the point where everyones not dead. Anyone do this? I feel like I save too much, but I don't want to rely on auto save.

HA! 1987 saves

I have one save for each chara cater I have, I used to have two but I got sick of trying to manage them all the time. As for how many times I've saved it's around 1200, if I was on pc with quicksave it would be thousands higher. Still as it is I quite often get sent back halfway across the map as I hadn't saved or get sent way back in a dungeon,

All these posts about saving because the game is buggy are nonsense imo. It's mostly those posters that are buggy...bugged by every little thing it seems to me.
For me at any rate I save often because I sometimes feel unsatisfied about how something has unfolded or turned out or I want to replay through a certain event or fight or whatever.
I would say some players are a bit anol (moi) and save because they want to have the option of going back and making a different decision or whatever. Others are gung-ho and barrel through the game at a rate of knots. Some people are finished with the game after 70 or 80 hours...! Some of them even come on here and complain about lack of content!! Amazing. At 70 or 80 hours I had barely scratched the surface of the game. Different strokes I guess.

At around 280 hours, I have about 980 savegames. About 8GB of space. (I was very used to Oblivion crashing when heavily modded.)

On the PC, I make subdirectories for each character and move all but the most recent saves for each character into the appropriate subdirectory.

This keeps the game from freaking out when trying to load the list of saves, but also allows me to go back to any point in time for each character.

I have a tendency to save a lot when playing also. I was/am afraid of a game being new, that I will have to retreat back to get a good save file if things go wrong somehow. It has never happened, yet I still save many times while during a session.

I to do not use the quick save feature, as I have heard issues of that corrupting games in the past. I also do an 'odd' thing when I finish questing for the night. I come out of my house in Whiterun and move toward the gate. I then allow my follower to catch up to me, then I backup a few steps to be near him. While we are both in view and the front gate in view, I do 3 save game files at this location. I just want a safety net that tells me tomorrow when I come back to play, I have a good save game file. With 3 saves, I figure if something happened to 1 file, the other 2 should provide a secondary backup to play from there.

I think I am with another poster, I call it OCD also.

So as of this date, I have over 4,300 save game files on 1 character. A lot? Probably. A bit overkill? Probably. Not needed? True, but I chalk it up to OCD.
