Just reached 850 saves

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 7:27 pm

Am I paranoid, I mean I'm like level 47 and I don't use auto save. Also I tend to save sometimes, and then do something stupid like kill everyone in whiterun, then jump off a cliff and go back to the point where everyones not dead. Anyone do this? I feel like I save too much, but I don't want to rely on auto save.

I think it's called Mass Effect syndrome...you don't save every 3 seconds in Mass effect you are screwed over a lot. So thats what i call people that save very often. They have Mass effect syndrome XD

I have always saved a lot in any game that has always had a save anytime feature, I just chalk it up as being OCD.

I use the default autosave setting and I spam the quicksave key compulsively. Before I embark on a new quest I make a backup save. There are about a dozen files in my saves folder. 265 hours in on this save with no problems. Why in the hell would you have 850 saves? Makes not one iota of sense.

My experiences with Bethesda games and their tendency to glitch and crash have made me into a save junkie too. I currently have over 400 of them, which means it's time to start going through them and deleting old ones that I'm never going to use again. I'll admit it - I get lazy about cleaning them up.

Having said what I did about glitching and crashing, Skyrim (for me anyway) has far and away been the most stable Beth game I've played.

I have over 2000 saves with the default autosave, all because of the amout of glitches and freezes I experienced with FNV.

8447.

I cut back on my playing time recently, if it wasn't for that, I'd probably be over 10K by now.

Multiple save points means that he can go back to any of them in case he for some reason feels he messed up and wanted to fix it. If you only use quick save, then end up regretting a choice you made, unless you haven't quick saved since then you are screwed. As for him, he can go back and pick and start off from anywhere. I myself am a quick saver, I feel once something is done its done, no going back. But this is why a lot of people will have more then one save.

Oh you are soooo wrong. It's called Rule Number One. Rule number one is, save, save and save some more. Why? Because it's Bethesda. Bethesdas games are buggy, so if you are not dieing alot, then it's the game crashing. If it's not crashing, then you got a bug that yoiu will need to restart from a previous save.

So it's not Mass Effect at all, it's just Rule Number One. :)

So which of 850 saves will he choose? Probably one of the last three or four. This is my point: Why on Earth do you need more than three or four if you aren't having issues? Quicksave normally and make an archive save every 20-45 mins and you'll be fine. Every once in awhile go delete a bunch of your old ones because you will never EVER need 850 saves.

Pfftt, Current character is level 41 and over 1700 saves. And I've been saving less than with Oblivion I think.

Last I checked, I was at ~1780, so...

Also, every time I think something major is going to go down I create a new save file instead of overwriting.

I think some people think that the OP is talking about 850 separate saves...he means 850 times that he saved in all the time he has played. He probably has like only 20 actually separate saves. That really is not all that bad tbh.

I'm into the 4000's...with nearly 700 hours in-game.

I learnt my lesson about saving after Beth released Broken Steel for Fallout 3...and now I'm a save addict.

It pays to delete them after a while, I have an 1800 save cut-off point where saving doesn't work anymore, or so I found.

I don't know how you people even get past the title screen(the game loads all your save datas it seems, hence the lag).

Im at 392, but I stuffed about 260 in a back up folder. I'll have to stuff about 200 more soon.

There is many save habits I gained after playing Oblivion.

It's not gonna happen in Skyrim, but in Oblivion, guaranteed, if I dont save after leaving a dungeon, I'll get a CTD. Never fails hehe.

So I save after leaving any place.
