Khajiit in Skyrim.

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 2:51 pm

In Oblivion, I wasn't ever too bothered about them, and I only briefly played Morrowind so they didn't bother me then.

What is it about Khajiit in Skyrim? They've obviously been more focused on this time round, but it's so easy to connect with them, to the point I feel bad when I have to kill one.

I think my next character will be a Khajiit :D.

easy to connect with them? well there are only a few khajiit in skyrim who have dialog options if that's what you're referring to... khajiit in skyrim have such little roles compared to oblivion

They are underclassed in Skyrim like Argonians so nobody likes to be on the side of the racist nords. You just feel bad for the beast folk who are not allowed in city walls

That would be why, if you were like me at least. I always found some kind of appeal to the most uncommon / unique thing. :o
Khajiit became my favorite race in Oblivion, so I kind of wish they would have focused on them more, but since they didn't it only made me like them more o.o

Eh I dunno, there's something really cool and interesting about them.
The Nords are generally racist, elves are looked at badly because of the Thalmor, most Bretons I meet seem stuck up

It would have been nice if Bethesda at least tried to explain why a PC Khajiit suffers no such discrimination. Some race-specific dialogue would have done this game a world of good.

Them being interesting was the reason I first made a Khajiit in Oblivion, and everything added on from there.

Same here, I would have loved a lot more discrimination towards your character determined by race.
I want Nord's throwing their mead at me as I walk into a tavern telling me to get lost just because I'm a Khajiit. :o

i really like the role the khajiit have in skyrim it feels very real to the world/atmosphere of skyrim. in cyrodiil, they were much closer to their homeland and in the capital of all of tamriel. but in skyrim, i wouldn't expect to find many khajiit. they are so far from elswyer and are very discriminated against in this province.

One word.. Scripting... as it stands, to get the difference or option for each race to have determined reactions would have taken ten times the scripting that they had at release just to get the basic game to work. It would have been a waste of time and money because they would have missed their release date, thereby breaking contracts and taking an even bigger loss in revenue. Have to love big business.

The 'innovation' of voice acting hurt it more than scripting. If they just had a text based dialogue system, like Morrowind, they could have as much race-specific dialogue as they wanted. Unfortunately, most gamers today expect every single word to be spoken.

Spoken dialogue is, in my opinion, a vast improvement over text-based dialogue. It allows us to HEAR the character's emotions, rather than say 'oh, I THINK the character would say it like this ...'.

I don't feel bad. I hate cats. And, I've always said to my cat-lover friends, "if your cat was 5 times larger, it'd probably kill you then eat your face for lunch". In the case of the Khajiit, this maxim has turned out to be true.

And it eats up a ton of disc space, and costs money to hire all of those voice actors. Morrowind had a lot of great dialogue, but if Morrowind were made today, over half of it would be cut.

As said above. Getting everyone else to hate cats/lizards isn't a problem (just factions could be used to do it). The problem is that Beth/Modders would need alternate dialogue for almost every piece of dialogue already in the game.

If you look at the opening scene, right after you get off the cart ... once you have selected your race ... there is a piece of unique dialogue to match your choice ... If they had to do the same thing for every piece of dialogue in the game it would have had a release date of 2021 (and a budget with lots of zeros on the end of that!)

Sadly, it's just too much ... Voice Acting is the death of complexity (until someone gets Text-to-Speech to work ... when Voice will be the saviour of complex-gaming ;))

Khajiits are strange minority and I am actually svcker for cats and dogs, so it was easy for me to like them :) It helps that they actually look nice and cute in Skyrim.

BTW, it's funny feeling when my followers save my Raksha's life and I actually want to scratch them behind ears to thank them... ;)

I don't think the Khajiit are discriminated as much as everybody thinks. Yes, I know that the Caravans aren't let into cities but that's because they're skooma dealers and are known as thieves. Yes, I know we don't see any Khajiit in the cities and it's not because the whole race is banned just the Caravans. That's why the PC is allowed in and also

.

Considering the racism people claim there is it's really nothing. It would be amazing if you'd have a drunken Nord rabble chasing you out of a tavern.

Although, that wouldn't really happen since the Nords are only "racist" against those who they do not respect and those who aren't worthy of respect. A fine example of this is in Windhelm where the Altmer Nurelion and Niranye are well respected because they work hard alongside the Nords and have earned the respect of the people of Windhelm. On the other hand the Dunmer haven't worked alongside the Nords and instead created their own Ghetto and thus aren't respected by the Nords.

I despise them. Always have, and always will.

A person really has to like cats.

I cannot take a "cat person/ cat-man catwoman seriously.

I just don't understand it. It makes me think of some jrpg every time.

Or the play Cats. Meeeow? Raaare!

The thing that is the MOST RIDICULOUS ...is... Khajiit werewolves!

Wtf? How do you get a wolf and a cat mixed together in any species??

Sir, when i first played Oblivion, I thought they were quite weird too.
you don't have to be a cat person to like Khajiit, perhaps you just like being unique instead of being a Human in which you are forced to be in like every game.
One thing I found a liking to Khajiit is how discriminated they are in the game, probably to the same extent they would if they existed in real life o.o
You sir would definitely be one of the people to be racist towards them if they did. :|

Werecats. Werewolves aren't the only kind of were beasts in the TES series. There's wereboars(which could be played as in Daggerfall), weresharks, werelions(the werecats I mentioned), werebears, and even werecrocs.

Here's the thing, you have to be bitten/wounded by the specific werebeast to get the form of that werebeast. Werewolves are the most common, which means they are found in just about every part of Tamerial. Werelions are only found in Elswyr.

I think they could have axed a lot of useless guard dialogue (who needs to hear all that "hands to yourself sneak thief" when your character hasn't stolen a thing all game or be told they've cast some ullusion spells or whatever) and had some carefully placed unique racial dialogue instead. At Hilgrunds tomb when that guy talks about "filthy dark elf necomancy", if you're playing a Dunmer you get "uh no offense" added on. That's a nice touch. They could have easily focused on just odd sentences referring to race. Having a central character (e.g. Jarl of Whiterun) say something like "of course Khajit aren't usually welcome in cities, but you're not with the caravans so you should be fine" would add a lot to playing one with just one line.
