Khajiit In The City

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 5:41 am

I want to start a city-dwelling thief assassin. She'd wear regular townsfolk clothes, her main weapon would be poisons. She'd be your unsuspected nice girl next door tending Honeyside's garden and embroidering hankerchieves enchanting (stolen) jewelery. She'd rather crack necks than spill blood, but she might carry a tiny dagger (Mehrune's Razor, if I can figure out why she'd be interested in visiting a certain museum in the first place) in her pocket. She wouldn't adventure, she wouldn't crawl dungeons, she wouldn't use magic, she's a city girl. Stritcly role played and specialized, she would be low level and weak, which is why starting racials would be important.

Khajiit has the best racials for my desired character. The perfect city-dweller's racials. Except the perfectly fit city-dwellers are not allowed into cities. And the only Khajiit in the city, even the capital city, hardly makes one your nice unnoticed girl next door. How do you Khajiit players deal with the fact that your race (except you) is not allowed into cities? Any ideas how I could twist this terrible and unforgivable Bethesda's mistake and make a city-dwelling Khajiit still possible?

If not, I'd have to play a Bosmer thief/assassin who pretends to be a fletcher. Which would require my character to go out in the wilds and do the rest that a fletcher does (hunts, wears light armour etc).

But I want my city-dwelling townsfolk dress wearing Khajiit. Bethesda, please call a moot and make Jarls to issue a decree that allows Khajiiti into cities!

'She'd be your unsuspected'

Good luck in a town full of racists.

I'm pretty sure it's just the caravaneers that aren't allowed in the cities. There just aren't that many Kahjiit that decide to live in Skyrim because it's so far away from Elsweyr and the climate is so radically different.

There are no racists in Riften. There are however respected shopkeepers of all kinds and races in Riften. Except Khajiiti :( Well, there may be a room for a Bosmer fletcher in Riften marketplace, but I'd really really rather have a hankerchieves embroidering Khajiit :(

Have you met a Khajiit in a city? Any city? I haven't. Not even in Riften's Ratway. There is J'Zargo, but Mages College isn't a city.

It's in the town (former city) of Winterhold though. And you also find a Khajiit named Shavari in Riften during a certain quest.

The only way that's gonna work is...

1.U live in Riften, they don't seem to mind that there's a khajit wandering around
2.Make your own city in the creation kit and fill it with khajit
3.Ignore the weirdness of being in the towns as a khajit and just play the game:)

The Caraveneers are the ones banned from cities because they openly sell drugs.

True, but the authorities obviously haven't caught onto her yet. Meanwhile, 'What do you have for sale?' 'Moonsugar, skooma and sleeping tree sap.'

Sleeping Tree Sap isn't illegal, it's just very hard to obtain.

I have noticed with my current Khajit character that it feels like guards are always watching you when you are in a city, they are always telling me to stay out of trouble.

Its not so hard;there is Spleeping Tree Camp where you can go every day if you want and take our beloved "magic juice"

The only things to avoid are Mammoth and Giants, and a follower like Cicero of course that would immediately engaging in a battle with them - and finishing inevitably on his knees in few seconds..

They're telling that to my Argonian as well, I figured, they tell it to everyone regardless of race.

Not to mention skill-related comments from guards. They're not supposed to know that I'm good at lockpicking and pickpocketing.

In my games it’s just the Khajiit caravans that aren’t allowed to do business inside the cities.

Maybe add it to your RP? Improvise or create a 'disguise' and go about your business in an outfit that you can RP as concealing your race? Perhaps as an adept thief/assassin she has the ability to speak with a different accent and has successfully lied about her race and identity, making everyone believe she is a Bosmer or Dunmer under her cowl and long robe (hiding her tail). You could RP the need to bribe or assassinate every guard or NPC who discovers your true race and addresses you as a Khajiit. Or perhaps some with high dispositions to you are friends and confidants who know your identity and protect it.

As far as history goes, Khajiit have at least lived in Riften without comment - read The Real Barenziah for all the interesting details of living in a Riften inn with Therris.

If I was a Khajiit I'd rather be in Skyrim than in Morrowind, Black Marsh or Summerset Isles.

Thanks for the nice tips.
My Khajiit would have been on her way from Bruma to Riften when she got caught up in that Stormcloak ambush, escapes Helgen, shrugs and proceeds to Riften.

Now that I think about it, I don't recall reading ingame anything that states clearly that Khajiiti as a race are banned from cities (other than what caravaneers tell me), indeed there just simply aren't any Khajiiti, and I haven't heard ingame any reasons as to why. Climate aside, because there are quite a lot Khajiit caravaneers in Skyrim after all. In Bruma, she hadn't overheard any 'heard any word about other parts of Tamriel' conversations about Khajiiti being banned from Skyrim cities either. So yeah. It's probably possible to safely RP a regular Khajiit citizen of Rift and just try to ignore guards' comments on thieving skills.

Maybe you can roleplay that you are officially working as assistant in some shop or manufacture, so your employer just vouched for you.

I play Khajiit named Raksha and she lives in Whiterun with 3 others Khajiits (Khajrio, Jzargo and Shavari (yes, that one Shavari from Riften)). This is how Raksha explains it, when you ask her about it:

When we are not traveling, we live at Raksha's place in Whiterun. Raksha can see that this one wonders, how is that possible, while Khajiit trade caravans aren't even allowed to cross city gates? Ha, those weasels from Whiterun actually outsmarted themselves on it. After Raksha helped with dispatching dragon, Jarl of Whiterun tried to be smart and get himself free additional city guard by allowing me to settle here. He allowed Raksha to buy overpriced house that nobody else wanted to buy and named me Thane for a good laugh because it costs them nothing (oh, and Raksha is sure they just call her "city mousecatcher" when she isn't listening). They even gave me useless and somehow dumb housecarl, who constantly babbles nonsense about being my shield and sword, but couldn't even get to cleaning spiderwebs at my place... But they never thought that Raksha will bring more Khajiits there, so now they have four cats living in Whiterun, angering every racist bastard in the city. Ha! That serves them right!

Yea, I expected a post about a bunch of catty women whining about their privileged lives while spending more on clothes and shoes than the average family makes in a year...

And get to visit a modders vision of a part of Elsweyr, and kill some Thalmor while you're there

Been there, done that about my Argonian already

Edit: Ah, I finally got it. May I point out that the thread title is not 'Khajiit And the City'.

Good idea, although i would say an Inn would more suit that way She can pick her targets carefully and with a calculated risk, also this might give you an excuse to travel from city to city to pick up supplies or deliver them, pick up some more wine/beer from the meadary/Brewers etc. could open up more interesting plot lines for her i think, especially as people do come and go from taverns and inns where i very rarely see more than a few people go in and out of a goods store.
