Is my laptop a $4,900.00 oversized paperweight or...

First of all, you're not an idiot for spending 5,000 on a laptop. I'm assuming if you spent that much, you had it to spend, so what is it to others what you got? I don't get the need to insult people constantly in forums; it's a sad statement about the poster, really.

I think what they are saying is that you could have bought a similiar machine for much cheaper from other sources (i.e. asus). But that has nothing to do with your question.

In answer to your post, I'd say nothing is wrong with the laptop per se, but I constantly hear folks with ATI cards complain about issues with games; far more than I hear complain about the nvidia cards. Now, ATI has great hardware; but the drivers are suspect, and without good drivers, the hardware is useless. I think this is your issue. If you can return the laptop, I'd do so if I were you and buy and Asus g73jw. They built the new one with a gtx 460M. You can buy two of them for what you spent on the Alienware and I suspect have the same quality. My sons have the older g73 and it's been wonderful. The ventillation is probably the best I've seen for a laptop. It will push some serious heat out the back...and that means it's not in your laptop. Now, this is a gaming laptop; battery life will svck unless you are very careful with power management; and even then it will just svck less. :)

That is my opinion of course. Others may disagree. But good luck getting it to play. I really love the game.

Thanks. I never understood the negativity and hate on the interwebs, myself. Not really much of a forum fan because of this. I was hoping to get positive responses to my dilemma but it seems that everyone agrees that Alienware is overpriced garbage. I've gotta hand it to them, though. They sure know how to advertise. "Plays best on Alienware" probably reeled me in. The funny thing is that a custom built Asus laptop with similar hardware specifications runs for the same price, if not, more than what I had paid for mine. The portability was an absolute necessity for me which is why I decided to invest in this laptop to begin with. Surprisingly, heat has never really been an issue for me (I keep a NZXT Cryo LX running beneath it at all times) and my processor and GFX chipsets don't seem to pass the high 70's. Oh well, I guess I'll have to contact them and see what my options are.

You're an idiot for spending almost $5000 on a laptop.
I second that. You are correct.

He could have bought a 1500$ laptop and still got maybe just 21fps lesser on games, but if his screen resolution came down(suppose HP ENVY) to 1600x900 then again there would be increase in fps.

What i mean is, 5000$ wastage. Could have spent somewhere else.

I paid $1200 for my laptop (Asus g51j) and it plays the game fine and everythingbelse out there. But why wouldn't it, everything is basically just a console port. Fyi op I get crap fps on black ops too...game is crappy programming.

I'd never go with Alienware, spent $1200 on my desktop by buying all the parts, and aside from the cooling fan on my graphics card not working properly and overheating from time to time, I've been able to run everything I've purchased at highest settings with nary a hiccup in framerate.

You sir, are a svcker. Anyone whom is willing to spend that much on something, where you can just buy it and spend two hours putting it together yourself for a quarter of the price, deserves what ever problems come with the machine.

I have an Alienware M17x (I didn't pay 5000 for it but still nonetheless) too so I think I can give you a good opinion.

The laptop is a monster so don't sell it back. It's essentially a mobile desktop and should be able to play ANYTHING out there no problem so the problems you've encountered are most likely game related.

Wait for a patch and it'll be fine. My laptop destroys games with ease (aside from Crysis 1). If you want to see m systems spec check my profile but ours is nearly identical.

Please message me if you have anymore questions as I have the same computer so I think I can help you out a lot.

Ps. I don't think you're an idiot for spending 5000. It's your money and you wanted a sweet laptop that does pretty much everything. I will say Alienware isn't as good now that Dell owns it but I fail to find anything as visually appealing and with superior performance as Alienware.

Eeewww, Alienware.
Get your money back and buy a desktop with like 2x HD6990s, 3x 30" monitors, the fastest 12-logical-core CPU, 3x SSD drivers and enough RAM to run Crysis 2 10 times over.

"I could've got this desktop for this price and it's way better than your laptop" yadda yadda yadda, please stop. This thread isn't about desktops. I was hoping that other gaming laptop owners would chime in who have experienced similar issues. I could've easily got a custom built desktop for cheap but that wasn't really the ideal choice in my scenario or I would've got a tower, instead. I'm not saying that choosing Alienware was one of the best decisions I've made because I am beginning to regret it a bit due to all of these complications. Who knows? Maybe somebody out there has had the same problems as I am experiencing now and has a solution. Like the guy a few posts up that posted that link for Crysis 2 Advanced Graphics Option (thanks, I think it's helping!). The game runs a bit smoother. Now to get rid of the flickering. Bottom line is games shouldn't require tweaks and mods to be playable. This is like Black Ops for me all over again and I don't like having to scour the internet for possible solutions to problems that shouldn't even be there in the first place.

I'm posting from my Sager gaming laptop and have been playing Crysis 2 ever since the servers stopped **** up (hotel internet suuuuuuuuuucks). Really though, your problem isn't due to the gaming laptop, it's just that Crysis 2 **** all over Crossfire (and a decent amount of SLI rigs). I'd just dig through the boards for other posts about dual vid problems and see what they came up with.

You really did get ripped off though :p.

And yeah, all the posters talking about desktops need to STFU. Believe it or not, some of us posters have these things called jobs. Sometimes people like us have jobs that involve a ton of travel that makes it so that if we want to game regularly, then we need to buy gaming grade laptops. Yes, I know desktops can be made more cheaply, I've got one at home that is stupidly overpowered, so shush.

Alienware computers are very powerful, but they are still very very overpriced. You pay all the extra money because they put it together for you and slap their logo on it. In other words, you could have built that same computer with the same parts for less money.

Those parts are way way above the minimum requirements, your system specs are not the problem. I have a SINGLE Radeon HD 5770, and I have the settings maxed for this game, it is running perfectly.

Like the other posters have said, your problem may lie with the two "crossfired" graphics cards.

Try contacting Alienware and see if they're willing to tear out the two graphics cards and replace them with one more powerful one, instead of returning that beast of a machine.

Good luck!

You're an idiot for spending almost $5000 on a PC. And an even bigger idiot for buying an Alienware laptop.

Laptop

^^^^
Your problem

I had laptops for the past 6 years, good ones, specifically for gaming. The **** I had to deal with for those 6 years have made me understand what a terrible idea that was. Return it if you can, do everything in your power to make this happen. For the money you spent on that you will get the sickest desktop in all creation or something reasonable that will blow the laptop's performance out of the water.

Never use laptops for gaming...like ever...

****, I want to be that idiot that spends $5000 on a laptop!

I'm with this guy. The OP didn't say he broke his bank buying it. So why is everyone else so worried about how much he spends HIS money?

Ignore all the people who said your an idiot for spending $5000 on a laptop. Its your money, and some people are just t****s with too much time on their hands. If people are not going to be helpful then why reply?

Though if you want help I recommend a different forum as you wont get customer support here from Crytek and obviously too many people on this forum have way too much free time on their hands!

Who is whining? I'm making a statement that my system exceeds what is required for this game and the game fails to function on my system. Nobody is forcing you to read the forums or my posts. It's not like I'm trying to publish a book, either.

God the OP couldn't be more dumb

1) Buys a laptop for gaming
2) Buys Alienware
3) Mobility graphics card
4) Outdated processor (relatively speaking)
5) 8GB of ram for gaming LOL

You could get a desktop that blows that **** away for $600

I laugh so hard at OP hahaha

Nice try, tool. Yes, I'm an American and I'm proud of it. And no, I don't have to rely on others for things that I want in life. You sound like you're trying to troll from your parents' basemant, though.
