My Little Pony: NHL Thread #7

Ugh yes, Pete Weber/Terry Crisp are awful, and yes, as mentioned Jack Edwards is awful as well. The Sharks announcers Hahn/Remenda whine way too much about officiating, a far cry from their respectable losing years with KICU/anolog where their play by play and colour were decent and I'd say with a bit of tough love on the Sharks. Ever since I started buying Centre Ice in the states around 2000-2001 I've tended to favour Canadian broadcasts which has only become more-so watching the transition of bad on FOX and ESPN/ABC to worse on NBC/OLN/VS/FSN/CSN/others.

I can't wait til the playoffs roll around and the main TSN announcer I end up hearing is Gord Miller.

Frustrating lose, so many dumb turnovers. Flyers need Kubina to come back because this young guy Gustaffson is trash.

Hughson is good. Bob Cole is the guy on CBC you have to watch out for. He's dreadful. I guess old age has scrambled his brain or something but some of the things he says make me wonder if he's watching the same game or not.

A few big wins against Detroit then Anaheim. Now Nashville tonight. I'm glad the Kings have seemingly fixed their goal problem, as they've been scoring 3+ goals a lot since the deadline.

I tried to look for bias but I didn't see it.

I saw some high volume in Hughsons voice during Canuck rushes and a BIG SAVE CRAWFORD at almost 4m in, but one thing I should note that exemplifies one of my biggest pet peeves with American broadcasts look at how many times in those highlights Hughson deviates and goes on a tangent about random [censored] while the puck is in play --- none, he calls the game religiously. You hear an off comment every now and then by Craig Simpson but never for more than a second or two.

Here is a good comparison from the same series but Game 6 on Versus:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdaNUd4DhcI

The first two goals scored interrupted the poor announcers in randomly talking about [censored] (twin brother Dani-- oh wait score, then right after the colour guy was on a long spiel and the play by play had to interrupt him to say SCORE), and the 4th goal scored they were completely caught offguard (colour guy was on another long tangent). This kind of [censored] irritates me to absolutely no [censored] end, I gave up watching after the game's 4th goal.

I didn't see the game (listened on the radio) but from what I could tell it was a pretty good game for the Bruins, considering their recent slide. It's bad that they allowed their 2-0 lead slip away, but at least the defense and goaltending were strong enough to force a shootout, which the Bruins have dominated this season.

That should be a really good game. Bryz has been playing so well recently that anything can happen. Both teams are very solid on both ends of the ice, too. But Pitt, of course, is red-red hot. It all makes for a very good game.

I hope Pittsburgh can sustain the necessary energy to play well against Philly. The Pens have 11 victories in a row, and I would hate to see the Flyers end it. Both teams played yesterday which evens things out.

Wow! What a poor third period by the Penguins! Bryzgalov was phenomenal.

Bruins 8-0 over Toronto. Where did that come from? Oh, right, the Leafs are awful!

Yeah don't get too excited Boston, you beat the Leafs...http://dennis-kane.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/funny_sign.jpg

Who here thinks Calgary will make the playoffs? I'm kind of scared, because if they do, and they somehow beat the Canucks, my family and friends would never let me hear the end of it.

As they should, lets not forget who many people had as Stanley Cup favorites before that start of the season.

Penguins 8 - Jets 4

Now that's a hockey game! Goals and assists all around! Hat trick for Neal, Malkin 2 goals (200th career goals) and 3 assists, Crosby 4 assists

Crosby already reminding me of Peter Forsberg who would get snagged with injuries then come in late season/playoffs and tear it up. Hopefully it's not a habit.

That was a pretty dirty elbow that Keith threw on Sedin. I hope the league comes down hard on that. And I hope Sedin isn't hurt long-term. But, I must admit, it was humorous seeing the Canucks trying to get all physical in response to it. The team does not overflow with physical prowess, http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6IVpP2Du6-Q/TgNoKmytqbI/AAAAAAAAAoc/SnCdnabzZXU/s1600/marchand-punching-sedin.jpg.

As much as I hate the Canucks, and think the Sedins are overrated and soft little babies, that was blatantly evil by Keith. Hopefully Shanahan, who I noticed has been dropping the ball lately on suspensions (at least comparing to earlier), gets this one right.

Pretty clear intent to injure to me. My guess is Keith gets 3-5 games.. much more if he were normally a dirty player, personally if the league were serious intent to injure elbows like that he'd get 7-10 but since he's a high profile superstar who doesn't have any real record of this, he'll get 3-5 probably.

The discussion about premeditation.. hyperbole. This isn't law enforcement surrounding a murder, it's a disallowed hockey play.

This.

Also I don't think Calgary's going to make it. Although whoever the 8th team will be, Vancouver will have some serious trouble with it if the Sedin slump continues. The Sharks should get it together and make the playoffs. And I'd hope very much that the Stars made their post-season comeback: they've been so close with basically this same core. And, since Phoenix have hanged above the line for so long, I'd give them a shot, too. I believed that, after losing Bryz, Jovanovsky, Wolski, Turris, Stempniak... without gaining any star power, they had no chance at all. What a winning underdog this team has been for all year long! Smith and Vrbata have been outstanding. I checked Vrbata's stats though and he still "only" has 30 goals, even around when he scored that 30th, he was at the pace for 40. :/

Keith gets 5 games. I think that's the appropriate ban for a first offender with such an outrageous hit. We still don't know what happened to Sedin...so we'll just have to wait.

I also don't like Nashville's chances if Rinne continues to struggle.

No. Maybe link it for us if its good. :)

And while we're on the linking idea, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvq78Oce52A between Lucic and Komisarek and you haven't seen it yet. Lucic has a thing or two to say to the former Hab.

Also, Bruins got a solid win tonight in Los Angeles. That should pretty much lock up the division, and hopefully Thomas should get some rest.
