Mermaids

Mermaids in the traditional sense no. I'd prefer giant squid/kraken and sea serpents.

Mermaids are a great idea, I just think Skyrim is a terrible place to introduce them. I don't think mermaids want to live the snowiest, coldest, icy land in all of Tamriel. Maybe if they were introduced in Oblivion or Morrowind.

In TES Lore there were the Maormer, sea elves that had underwater cities, but they were in warmer waters of the south. (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Maormer)

I do wish there was a bit more underwater content, especially around Winterhold. Can you imagine being able to explore some of the underwater remains of the great collapse? How much fun would that be? Or underwater ice caves?! Le sigh.

There should already be some sunken ruins and other dungeons in the game. Even some that are 70% or even 100% flooded, so that you NEED water breathing to explore them. And add some more dangerous water creatures, and increase the spawn of slaughterfish. And make some form of attack available underwater. Like make them very dark since there is no light, so we would have to use light spells to see (if we could use light magic underwater).

Honestly I was disappointed that there wasn't anything much to see underwater. Pilgrim's Trench was pretty cool, but it should have had something to find, like maybe starting some quest from finding something down there.

Wow. How rude. Between the Dreghs and Maormer TES has many races that are similar to Merfolk. The request doesn't seem nearly as unreasonable as your response.

What has the Forums come to? Anyways, It'd be nice to have underwater combat. I'd also like to see what the "Dreugh" would like with Skyrim's Graphics..

Mer = elf
Maid = maid

so, mermaids are elven maids in TES? Yeah, Skyrim already have those.

Seriously: I think the sea needs more interesting things than it has now. I hope we get to see whales!

So many good posts and ideas, And I agree with most of them I do hate having so much water with only a few sunken ships and fish. actually come to think of it, I've never seen a Horker swim... its like the're allergic to water

I like this idea. Mermaids and sirens in mythology can be creepy. Sirens luring in sailors to drown them? Not exactly sweetness and light.

It'd be cool if they looked beautiful and inticing from afar...but then the glamour would drop once you came close enough. Maybe they could have some sort of paralyzing or slowing spell. And randomly jump out of the water, trying to roll you to death under the surface like a crocodile would roll its prey.

maybe there could be good ones and evil ones, mermaids (good) sirens (evil) and the quest is to help the mermaids... or the sirens (I guess) or a last minute option to wipe them both out.. Coz everyone likes mass murder, well not me.

Quest associated with them? Even better.

You're right. There should be options for good characters (or just people who are tired of killing everything.)

Horkers did swim in Morrowind's expansion called Bloodmoon. Not sure why they don't in Skyrim. Maormer are actually probably not mermaid/mermen like in any way. They can tame sea serpents, but that is because of a type of magic they do. They also live on an island. Mermaid legends most of us are familiar with and the story The Little Mermaid seem to have made it an unwritten rule for mermaid races to be aquatic only or mostly.

Lamia are basically mermaids, so just throw on a bra, and they can be okay in modern games. I'm amazed how much got past with Daggerfall, to be honest.

isn't Lamia a snake? although I like the little mermaid, I was going off the mermaids from pirates of the Caribbean (where they shed their tail on land) which I guess could be problematic

Only seen the Disney version, have we? There's versions that are less cheery.

They wouldn't be nymphs anymore if they were in Skyrim. They'd have too much clothing on.
