Is metal for ponies?

*Composes self*

Right first off I won't deny metal can be satanic, sme types of metal can be quite extreme and there is certainly satanic material out there if you want to look for it however... but those 2 example you gave are certainly not satanic and their members not satanists and neither are 99.99% of bands or fans. Metal is an art form and even the bands that sing songs that could be considered satanic are doing it mostly for effect. Do your parents think Pirates of the Carribean to be satanic for example, because that would be just as stupid to describe as such

What are your parents reasons for thinking Iron Maiden are satanic I wonder? Metal can talk about pretty much anything ranging from political issues such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap14NKh6J8g&feature=related and fantasy stories by bands like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF6MclyGOfw&feature=related and to make things clear Blackie Lawless from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnlZ7XK_uVE&feature=related is just one example of someone who is a member of a metal band and also a christian so

*Rocks out to Dance of Death* ... huh? What did you say? I couldn't hear you over the awesome.

It sounds like your parents have very rigid views regarding the metal genre - and to be fair a lot of the bigger metal bands certainly can push the envelope sometimes.

Also, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn4V0o56UlM - it's a happy metal song!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoR8L5EEfkMis a happy metal song too, but if the guy's parents had any idea about what the lyrics said I'm 100% positive that they'd call it the work of the devil.

RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION.

Christians like to claim that horror movies/metal music/black clothing/etc. is satanic, but 1. Christians 99% of the time don't even know what satanism is, and 2. these things aren't any more or less satanic than anything else in existence, and 3. this labelling is usually just an easy way to dismiss something that Christians disagree with.

Definitely not. I would try to convince them that not all Metal music is the same and varies as widely as any other genre. They seem pretty damned unreasonable if they think that you should only like what other people like, but maybe show some some of the intelligence that can exist in Metal songs or the musicians themselves, and make claims about how what other people like doesn't at all interest you. If anything, you'll probably end up having to convince them by listening to it over the years and proving them wrong when you don't turn out a "waster" or "lowlife".

Back during the 50's they thought that Rock&Roll music was the song of the devil causing kids to rebel. Truthfully I find Heavy Metal/Metal music to be of the same stereotype. Though it does not help that some bands put pentagrams and put in satanic lyrics into their stuff. However, this is mostly to "grab" attention getting people to buy their music.

Find heavy metal enjoyable if I can get songs that I like. Mudvayne's Dig, Rob Zombie stuff, Powerman 5000 (Bombshell), Static X, and such are pretty good. The song Dig by Mudvayne uncensored is probably the worst of the bunch since it has some nasty lyrics, but you have to take it in stride to be honest. Only song I absolutely HATE right now is (bodies) by drowning pool *think that is them* since it is used almost constantly. It was a great song, but every Music Video I see lately is qued to that song.

I think it was just too deep for me. Im still not sure what it all means. Maybe the elephant represents the government and the man is us. The song is about loosing our rights. Yes its all clear now.

Now I need to find the meaning of "Fermented anol necter" by spermswamp.

You know that feeling when you're REALLY excited about something? Skaters like myself call it stoke. Metal gets you pumped, its one of the reasons why people listen to it. It is certainly not satanic. You're telling me you're parents think all that skill and passion put together is satanic?

Stana Katic is pretty hot.

Stana is an anagram for Satan.

Does that mean she is evil and that I should stop watching any movies/TV shows with her in it?

Stana is also an anagram for Santa. Does that mean I should clean my chimney so she can come?

Yeah, metal music is satanic. But not as satanic as US politicians and lawyers. Your 'rents need to put the Bible down and get lives and you need to stop listening to them.

Look at it this way, you obviously play some pretty questionable video ganes. Hell, you belong to this forum. Your crazy parents don't give you static for worshipping Talos or Kyne, or any Daedric prince or the Bull or Bear but they are going to give you static for listening to some Lamb of God or something? Yeah, you should stop paying any attention to your parents.

Yes it is satanic

That was me playing devils advocate

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zXDo4dL7SU

Of course you could always listen to Christian metal bands

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_metal_bands

That pretty much invalidates the notion that metal is only satanic

No, they're not, some bands are, but Maiden and Dio are not, just read the lyrics and the answer should be rather obvious.
Back in the day (80s) a lot of people said metal was satanic and whatnot.

And Dio is never out dated.

Given that nobody can actually hear the lyrics in the average metal song...

The real question is 'Is a palm muted E or drop D note played multiple times in succession satanic?'. Does it become more or less satanic if a fifth is added to the base note? Is it exponentially more satanic if the note is strummed and left to ring out, or muted instantly? How does one calculate the ratio of distortion:satanism?

I tried reading lyrics to them, they said there were hidden meanings within the songs not made clear in the lyrics.

My parents are very religious although I negledcted to mention that in my first post because I know religion is against the rules andwas hoping it wouldn't get brought up to much.

My parents are very unresonable about this and very closed minded, it's why I have turned to asking the community for advice

Just use tritones and the song is automatically satanic..

That depends on the genre.

And muted instantly is most satanic. Also fuzz and feedback is of the devil and everytime you play "Holy Diver" the devil gets a better foothold in this world.

Well then you have a problem, I can find hidden meanings in "how great thou art" if I want to, if that's the case then there is probably no way to get through to them, of course you could have them try to find the hidden meanings, they will probably fail though as there usually isn't any hidden satanism. Though I must admit people who look hard enough can find just about anything in anything.

Me neither, but they did in the middle ages, and that's where they found out that tritones are of the devil.
