Hi I've been following the community for some time and you all seem like a decent bunch so I hope this question can be answered for me

Is metal satanic?

I am a huge fan of heavy metal music and I listen to bands like Dio and Iron Maiden for example. My parents however claim it to be satanic and a bad influence and that I should stop listening to it. I'm 16 by the way. They claim it to be for lowlifes and wasters and I should pay more attention to things other people like instead of in a style of music that is outdated amongst other things

Basically I need some help convincing them that it's not.

What is everyon elses view on what my parents think.

Errrm, I think there are some satanic "Sub genres" of Heavy Metal, but as a genre itself it doesn't appear to be any more satanic than any other genre of music.

Depends on the lyrics. Metal songs could range from anything about a park to a sandwich. It's just dependent on the band or song. As a genre? No, it's just terrible.

However... I'm guessing your parents' idea of both Satanism and metal is pretty much 'it's bad'. So I think we can safely discuss this without venturing into actual religious discussion.

Force them to listen to anything by the band Job for a Cowboy. By the end of the song they'll be convinced that any song by Iron Maiden is a harmonic melody likely written by Angels. I couldn't listen to a song by Job for a Cowboy for more than 5 seconds, seriously, look it up - it's terrible.

Head from korn converted to Chritsianity, made some christian music. I warn you though, it is sickeningly preachy. Imo obviously.

There were, once upon a time, some chords that were considered "evil" that Heavy Metal decided to use just to do otherwise. But music is music, so I think divine entities couldn't care less of what it sounds like. Many Metal Bands I listen to are considered pagan... and since half pagan gods and godesses were "evilised" while the other half were sanctified... who knows?
Some bands promote the abuse of alcohol and/or drugs which could lead to evil ways, but it's up to you, really. Use your head. Just like any other entertaining stuff, really.
Show your parents lyrics that have morally nice meanings. Even if at first they seem plain mean, most of the time, it's ironic or double meaning...

I got linked to one of their songs before, it was horrible. The uploader knew this becuse part way through the song the vid said anyone who didnt like them was a [censored].
Another horrible band Torso[censored] only song I heared ws "[censored] by elephants". Stuff like that makes me feel shame for listening to metal. To be linked with that [censored].

Also didnt know the singer from slayer was catholic, didnt really care tbh. But damn I would love to see his views on religion. My mother (catholic) [censored]es whenever I say god damnit.
One of my RE teachers used to listen to slayer. I found that awesome.

Most of it isn't. Dio and Maiden should be perfectly fine with all but the most conservative (crazy) people, they're not even close to some of the crazy stuff out there. Not that there's anything inherently bad about Satanic metal, your parents sound like a bunch of dikes tbh.

It sounds like your parents have very rigid views regarding the metal genre - and to be fair a lot of the bigger metal bands certainly can push the envelope sometimes.
